I'm sorry I upset you Lady Gray, but, here's the problem. I don't care who moderates what, either. That was never the point. But so many of my critics seem to know what bothers me with out really bothering to read what I said. For all those claiming to know what sets me off, or claiming I'm a malcontent who wants to moderate the comments pages and constantly agitates for it - you don't what your taking about. Mentioned it ONCE, in passing, and wouldn't have accepted it if it was offered because I didn't feel I had the time to do it properly. I prefer not to take on a job unless I can do it properly. Nor would I have expected such an offer, since there are MANY people here who'd be far better choices than I would.
But, if you go back and read not my posts, but the posts of the other people who are in the thread's that I respond to, what you'll see over and over is this: Some new person expresses their frustrations and I try to keep them on board by giving them as much of a coherent explanation as I can, while many veterans simply insult them. I guess that's the difference between me and my critics. For some strange reason, I don't feel this is healthy for the project. But, one of my faults is that I don't believe a coherent explanation means you lie to people.
You say you know the answers, Lady Grey? Well, personally, I don't want to know the names. Who cares? Not me. But why would a simple statement like, "yes, some - besides Bubby - who have moderation privileges over here also have them over there" (last I saw from WR, he can only moderate the game page) or "no, we moderators over here - again with the exception of Bubby - have no control on what goes on over there". I'll tell you one thing that last statement would do if it were true. It would cut down on all the unintentionally ridiculous posts blaming moderators over here for problems over there. Ones frequently made worse by veterans over here who unintentionally make posts muddying those waters because they simply didn't pay attention to what others wrote in the thread. But then I sometimes forget, though this is a general statement and not directed at anyone personally, the reason some dogs often chase their own tales is because they like it. Doesn't do much for me, though.
If I would have any question answered, though, it would be this: Why would someone clarifying with one of the two sample statements I made above be damaging the project? Why do so many simple pieces of information about GOTD need to be jealously guarded state secrets that upset people when they're asked about? ROTFLMAO! Maybe I'm not the one that needs a new hobby.
Again, the only reason I want to know is to save some dedicated moderators over here who don't have admin privileges over there from having their feelings hurt when some newbies blames them for the comments page. Of course, some may say that it doesn't bother them at all, and I believe it doesn't bother some. But it must be bothering somebody or this wouldn't be coming up all the time and I wouldn't get so much hassle when I ask a simple question.
I know you all think I'm mad, but please trust me, I'm just bemused. As I've said elsewhere, I'm a big fan and - believe it or not - a big supporter of GOTD, I just hate to see all these PR missteps which are the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. Because, again, I like and support the project. But, then, maybe it's because I'm a fan of America's Founding Fathers, who believed honest criticism can make things better. Also, I've always foolishly thought the purpose of a forum was to discuss things.
Oh, btw, Lady Gray, do you have an economic interest in GOTD? I didn't think you did, but that would explain your post better than anything else. The "we" is all us non-moderators. Remember us? Also, please see above. "GOTD forums. Technical problems with our forums, blog, or web-site."
