goody - sorry, not a caterpillar.

doesn't look like a frog so I'm out.

Hint: Females can grow up to 10mm (without legs), males reach 5mm at most.

cricket? or spider?
Posted 16 years ago # -
goody. Yes, it's a goldenrod crab spider (Misumena vatia)! Isn't she pretty? The female can change color to blend in with her surroundings.
You have now been awarded some Wake Up Calls.
Posted 16 years ago # -
cool. slow change but amazing anyhow.
btw, I think I'm getting better at sticking photos together- here's a train on a siding I got a couple shots of over in CG. finally found where to set what camera took the shots.
Posted 16 years ago # -
goody.. great panorama shot!!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody......love the train shot. My nephew would like that one, he's into trains.
Maizey......never would have thought it was a spider.
Copmom......I'll take them all, we have a big house with just the two of us rattling around in it. Well, us and Buckley :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody, you've done a fantastic job on the panorama! I can't even see where you stitched it together. I'm impressed!!!
Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox is back for a moment.
Goody that train pic is really great, What software do you use ? I must try that, shot some pics in panorama mode, but never stitched them together.maizey don't think I had guessed the spider before your hit. Did you take that pic ?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Maizey,
I love those wake-up calls..!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody,
I love that train picture of yours.Where did you take it?
Did you stick a second locomotive to that train...no you didn't..
Someone who is into trains made this suggestion to me.Posted 16 years ago # -
Maizy
Female spiders tend to eat their partner unless he brings her a present...
:)Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox, yes I took the spider picture.
Robert, glad you liked the game.
What kind of present would you give a lady spider? ;)Posted 16 years ago # -
I used The Panorama Factory V5.1 Legacy Edition by Smoky City Design. (legacy because no XP)
All done by the software, I still haven't figured out but a fraction of the settings- haven't read any of the manual for fine tuning or color correction. running out the trial, figured why not before I try others.
I *just* figured out that leaving the camera set to the default '35mm' was a Bad Thing and told it I was using an HP M517 [there's a huge list]- ran the same photos of town through with the new settings and got a much better panorama of drain. huge picture alert again. 141 degrees wide and 28 high, it says.
No, the train was dual-coupled sitting there on the siding just south of Main street in Cottage Grove, Oregon.
I held the camera up over the fence with the folded tripod to take the pictures.
I want to see if I can snap a slow-moving train here in drain and stick the whole thing together. usually a couple pairs of engines on each.
That was the 5th, the day I shot that mural of Buster Keaton. rain off-n-on, got some pretty little purple flowers too.

Goody, another nice panorama. It's huge! There's one house there that really need a new roof. Flowers turned out nice too. :)

I've got another closeup for everyone to try. Here's MD-What Is It? #45.
I'm going back outside for awhile. It's beautiful, sunny and warm here today...first in a very long time.

Maizey, that looks like a moth, sorry, don't know a name, my dic knows only moth or butterfly, I think a "moth"
Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox, you are correct it is a moth! Don't feel bad, I don't know what kind of moth it is either. :)
Just for you I have Day of the Bobteds. Those adorable bobteds finally get their own day.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Thank you maizey it's a fantastic picture! If I only had a better cam. But I can no longer hold those "heavy" SLR with objectives. Now I had to decide between a new cam or a new puter. The puter won. What should I do with a dsl cable and a camera but no puter?
Well I don't now, what Bobtedts are, but they are making me crazy. Thanks !!!
Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox, I still liked you ant picture best. I'm going to have to try your honey water trick.
I can't get past 15 on the Bobteds game. >:(

maizeydaze is our # 2000 Queen !!!
You are the only worthy member here, without you, would not only this thread not exist, but also the whole forum be rather colorless or achlorophyllaceous ;)
Here is a little present, something to read :http://manybooks.net/collections/Great_Round_World.php
Have fun !

Howdy all.. I thought that moth picture was an owl sticking it's head out of a tree!
Goody.. the program we got the other day Photoscape, has something in there about combining pictues .. haven't played with it much yet, but I know my Olympus camera has the ability to take panoramic shots. Taking the lazy way out, what do you basically do, take a picture, move the camera over a bit, take another picture, etc., etc.??
And yes, graylox, I still like your ant picture best of all! Bet you could submit it to National Geographic or someplace like that!Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody just did a google on panora pictures and found this. http://www.gdargaud.net/Photo/Panorama.html
It refers to using PSP and something called panowarp available there for free. Thought you might find it of interest!Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox, what can I say? I'm deeply honored by your praise. It's been my opinion that you are the most colorful lady in the forums. I admire you for learning our language and communicating so well. I find you very interesting and I'm glad you are a regular here. Thank you for the gifts. Very nice find! :)

And the Amazing Maizey wins the 2000th post! Yeaaaaaaaayyyyy!!!!
Here's another "little" gift for ya! Enjoy!
The Woman's RemotePosted 16 years ago # -
BK, Wouldn't it be nice if you could get one those that worked! All my remotes must be broken. Thanks!! :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
Maizey....yes that would be great, especially the Menu buttons. It would be nice to have a "Make me beautiful" button too. :)

finally back from Roseburg, boy am I beat.
Graylox-
But I can no longer hold those "heavy" SLR with objectives
aren't there rigs that take the strain off your hands and let your hips and shoulders do the work?
Copmom-
Photoscape, has something in there about combining pictures
It's a bit more fancy than Irfanview and Photofiltre, but the basics are the same, just sticks photos together at the edges, no warping, alignment or blending. (stitching)
I know my Olympus camera has the ability to take panoramic shots
if I understand what you mean, it can change from 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:10, 16:9 (hdtv) or 2.35:1 (panavision IIRC) wide format. this camera is 4:3 only.
taking the lazy way out, what do you basically do, take a picture, move the camera over a bit, take another picture, etc., etc.??
exactly so. 20-30% overlap, and as level as possible. (not very)
the tripods I have don't have pan heads, so I plan on ginning one up, and adding a permanent offset bar to the camera so it pivots as close to the lens axis as possible rather than the center of balance.
one thing that'll make that easier is the mountings are all 1/4" x 20 threads per inch. Standard SAE coarse, and I have the taps and dies. Gun taps even.
Besides that, I want steel threads for mounting- using this plastic mounting socket makes me cringe.
It refers to using PSP and something called panowarp available there for free
don't know how it'll work on win2000- it's a '95-98 program, but I've put it into my 'try' box of freeware, along with panorama factory 1.6, Autostitch v2.2, and PanoTools 2.6b1. still looking for others, too.
In fact, I've sent "disabled and broke, please would you" emails to a few places- it's worked before... rarely, but still worth the electrons.
WinGIMP or GIMPshop (same program under the hood, but the GUI is made to imitate PhotoShop) can sub for PSP or PhotoShop in most ways- and are freeware.
I think Photofiltre free does layers too.
one freeware panorama program the company folded, the authentication servers are gone so it watermarks and dies in 30 days. bummer.
somebody wondered what flagstone was- here's some flagstone
