I don't know the correct name, so I will go with a car stop. Kind of what you would see in a parking lot.

I apologize for the double post.

no problem. happens all the time when it makes a new page.
no, this is normally bolted onto a large machine.
I could crank up the iso or shorten shutter time, but rarely do. too easy to set it too late to get the shot off, so I aim far and let the image stabilizer help.

another hint: this is a large version of something you might see on a car.

Don't know the name, but one of those things the police use to lock a car tire if there's tickets, etc.?

Oh my gosh. I put the pieces together that you showed and tried to draw what I thought the entire thing looked like based on those 2 pics and it was nothing like the final object. Good job! Good round!

with something that size it's fairly easy to pick angles of view that misdirect since they can't be seen from the other viewpoint. thanks. fwiw the last use that was put to was an anvil for hand-forging plate armor and helmets at a Renaissance Faire....

wanna try G What is it n029?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi Goodie. :)
Is that some kind of a punch?Posted 16 years ago # -
Howdy.. is it a shock absorber?
Posted 16 years ago # -
copmom, I gotta score that a clean miss, sorry. that's a spring-loaded gripper plate, the whole visible area is about 1" across.
this is a hand tool, and though maizey's in the general area- it does make holes by pressure but does not fully penetrate (those pins hit a hard rubber block on the anvil side to protect the points) to make a hole (set of holes) that stick around.
it's a very specialized tool indeed, does only one job, though it does that in a flexible fashion.
dunno (doubt it, but I could be wrong- this one is at least 50+ years old- it was old when I played with it as a wee child) if they're still in use, but this or something similar used to be around on old farms, ranches, and related businesses.

Posted 16 years ago # -
ha. who.is.u.lox, I already used a carding comb. taken any snapshots lately?
hello yourself. nope- this is for use on livestock but not a comb.
works like a big pair of pliers. those pin blocks are movable.
and as far as I can tell these are still sold- looks the same even.
but when you figure it out, this question will make sense- are humans wimps or crazy?
moderatrix? cool.
Posted 16 years ago # -
HI Goody.....is that some sort of branding tool?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Oh lordy...I hope these aren't used for some sort of castration ritual! O-o
