Not trying to hijack, but I just recv'd a ludicrous PandaTechSupport response worthy of sharing. (this was to a simple notification of a false positive hit on two DLLs downloaded along with their "run once" Nanoscan utility I'd successfully used a few times in '07)
This is on par with the moronic replies I used to get when alerting Yahoo to various glitches. Maybe they both outsource to the same Malaysian Help Squad?-Dear customer,
That’s why you should not have those programs installed on the computer. One because when you run a scan especially with lavasoft it would detect some of panda’s files as ad-ware, spyware, etc and it will delete them and make your panda not function properly. So please uninstall any conflicting program and reinstall panda:Please check to see if you have installed any such software on this computer. You may want to contact the product vendor for instructions on how to completely remove the remnants from your system. We have listed a few applications which we have seen conflict with in the past. Along with the list, we have provided automated/manual removal instructions you may use to remove the remnants. This list may include, but is not limited to:
Windows Defender
Bit Defender | Removal Instructions
McAfee | Removal Instructions
Norton (Symantec) | Removal Instructions
AVG Anti-virus | Removal Instructions
Lavasoft Ad-ware SE Personal or Professional
Webroot Spysweeper
Spybot Search & Destroy
Trend-micro PC-Cillin Internet Security | Removal Instructions
Zone Alarm
!Avast Anti-virus | Removal Instructions
Microsoft Live OneCare | Removal Instructions
Yahoo! Anti-Spyware
America Online Security Edition
NOD32====================
The response ended by asking me to rate the value of the "help." So, I fired back:
The harebrained response I received instructing me to UNINSTALL reputable security packages such as LavaSoft, AVG, Avast, Spybot and WinDefender just so I can run Nanoscan is, quite simply, PREPOSTEROUS. For the record, Nanoscan used to run without incident. Now there's a conflict. If everybody besides Panda plays together nicely, then IMHO the onus is on Panda to fine tune their software, not for a potential user to make wholesale changes to his security schema.
=========================NOTE: Having seen several comments that people have trouble removing McAfee, this tidbit might help. That techie included a link to a McAfee executable tool that claims - "Running the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool (MCPR2.exe) removes all 2005, 2006, and 2007 versions of McAfee consumer products. Note: This tool is NOT compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 or ME."
Sorry... interrupted by a biz call. Here are the links to that removal tool and the others, though I wouldn't care to remove any besides McAfee, Norton and MSFT-
bitdefender
mcafee
norton
AVG
trend-cillin
avast
MSFT LiveOkay, you may now resume poking fun at Comedy Comment Board Theater.

I took a little break, but now, I'm back! I'll be reviewing games again this weekend. In the meantime, I'll be posting stupid comments - such as the ones below:
There are a lot of these anti????? programs out there. Not many are really good. Some even add bad wart and then tell you it found them. If you need security then gibve this one a try. If you do get messages saying it has found this and that and your computer was under real threat then be sure to understand this may not be treu at all. This is a good method of convincing people to pay for their products. This brings the question of how to know what is true and what is not. You will have to use your own judgment.
-
thanks #5- will try later. I’m fed up with following the instructions in the Read Me, which must have been wrong, so will try this tomorrow. Grateful as I am for the free software, I wwould be even more grateful if the correct activation instructions were included in the first place.

Im wary of Clipboard software…
Imagine the damage that a bad clipboard sending your copied bank account details to a foreigner could do…
So I’d rather have the standard M$ Clipboard…
-
what is a clipboard and what does it do?

(apologies for the off-topic footnote, you’re welcome to reply/flame/whatever via the forums if you prefer. But I think we have a lot of regular posters to the comments page who won’t use the forum because it requires a real email address for registration and they prefer to remain anonymous?)
they prefer to remain anonymous???
If you really are worried about men in black finding you, turning up at the front door with search warrants - just create a gmail, hotmail, or yahoo account just for the purpose. Call yourself "Elvis", and just say "uh-huh, Thank-yu-very-mush" when ever anyone asks you a question.
Unless you really *are* Elvis. Then don't.

I’ve been working with video on PCs since Win 3.1
I've been working with PC's since "electricity". Electricity hasn't changed - It still hurts (and I smell smoke) when I put the wires on the tip of my tongue. And when I wake up, food tastes funny for days later.

Since I run in what apparently is a non-standard configuration (UAC turned off; my default login is a plain user and I switch to admin only to do installs - or run programs that don’t work when run as a user) it turns out that the “run as administrator” option is not available…
For those still using XP(or even earlier), turning off UAC(the first thing that anyone should do when they get Vista) takes away all restrictions on the applicable account - hence the lack of an option for Administrator mode. It's pretty self-evident(that is, Windows tells you about it).
Even setup doesn’t run on Windows without internet connection!
Oh. NO.
Have read most of comments;and, seems app provokes alot of attention. My copy is activated but not installed yet because my F=Secure AV continues to pop-up a SPYware advisory ,,,specifically “ADware Pro”.
if this is full retail version, it should be 100% CLEAN. Since I set F_Secure to stop immediately at point of detection , my other thought is since F-Secure would not allow setup to begin, is the ADware Pro spyware part of GOTD repacking the app to its own setup.exe Activation routine?? Anyone else detecting SPYWARE ATTEMPTING ACTIVATION OF INSTALL ROUTINE?? Or could be an anominally.
Lastly, whose SPYWARE is it….GOTD covertly slipping it into each daily giveaway; or is it the Author’s covert goodie unknown to GOTD guys??? Any ideas, comments or suggestions? RSVP.GOTD isn't putting spyware in the giveaways...IT'S THE RUSSIANS.

Well, the All Media Grabber is a dead loss.
It “can’t cut the mustard”!
I only have 450 .jpg images on my computer, but when I try to view them with All Media Grabber I get an error message:
“Extract multimedia files from resources has encountered a problem and needs to close….”
For a product to sell it must work. This product does not work.
This, by the way, was in the comments section for today's giveaway.

Lockett Did you catch this: Or could be an anominally.
Yeh, it probababally is!Posted 16 years ago # -
Is this crazy? Everyone has like at least -1 on there comment? Is someone going down the list just hitting minus on ever one????????
...but then again, some people do seem to vote just for kicks

geez, can anyone review this program instead of pointing everyone to other freeware alternatives? we all know there are alternatives to almost any kind of programs. I think what we should focus on what is offered today and review this program whether its good, its bad, not discussing other software.
Strikingly similar to the post that started this thread, isn't it?
Hear, Hear, I second #28. My interests are to hear about how today’s program compares with similar utilities. And the only way for that to have any validity, would be by installing the program, and work it side by side; Which I’m currently in that very process. Saying “well this freeware is better” without a direct side-by-side comparison is meaningless. It reminds me of adolescents arguing over “Well this is better than that!”; “No it’s not! Mine is better!”, “It is not! Mine is better”“, Oh yea, well you’re wrong! Mine is way better!”, “Tiz not, mine is!” “Yea well how do you figure your is better?” “Because it is, so there!”
Gah! Two of them!

"I guess I’ll pass on this one. The reason being I already, like so many others, have a nice collection of utility software, thanks mainly to giveawayoftheday. If it was larger I might consider it but at only 1.71 mb I don’t need it. I remember the day when I would love to have something like this and I’ll bet theres plenty of people out there that need one. thanks again giveawayoftheday!!"
OOOOOPS.. size counts ?

I've had a few people commenting about the Funny Comments thread that some of the posts are getting a little nasty in tone, and the last post (which I have just removed) I tend to agree.
The thread is not a vehicle to slam posters for being ungrateful or even rude - or a way to bypass comment moderation by saying what you wish you could say in the comments but would be moderated for doing so.
I agree some comments can make people angry, and in these cases I would prefer people resort to slamming a keyboard into their own face or using their mouse as a martial arts weapon - instead of blasting a user in the forums.
Posted 16 years ago # -
OK, sorry about that. I'll tone it down in the future.
I didn't mean to be so harsh, but I couldn't read "I rushed through the install and wound up with permatabs installed to my Firefox browser with GAOTD opened in a permanent tab on my browser. I bet this comment will be deleted because of the negative content, so S U GGAOTD." twice without my blood boiling.
I didn't mean to be insulting in any way.
Posted 16 years ago # -
It's not just that comment - it applies for everybody.
Remember the aim and tone is humour and fun - not demonic flaming vengeance.
After all, they are "only comments". If they upset that much, perhaps your expectations are too high for some of our commenters. Take a walk outside, count to 10, deep breathing, a cold shower maybe. Tomorrow nobody will remember them anyway - it is a fleeting 15 seconds of "fame", among a group of people who probably don't care too much anyway.

' I wonder how commenter #42 managed to miss Whiterabbit’s post in #32 when he commented on post #31, right before it… :/ '
It's a process know as J.F.M. (Just Freakn' Magic).

#34: I love GOTD been with them almost 3 yrs …its my homepage…they have been offering alot of hard drive cleaners so I hope they offer other kinds soon.. tc all..
Wow ... 3 years already!! Is that right?!? Ok then ... ;-)
Posted 16 years ago # -
hoss- i actually think whiterabbit's comment might not have been cleared before the next person made the comment. especially since it is the next one.
:D
Posted 16 years ago # -
Funkymom - Yeah, that is what I was thinking too. I am sure there were several comments that were not visible when the other post was made. I just thought the comment fit well in this thread so I had to pick on him just a little. ;)

Bubby......Makes me wonder if this thread should even be here, ya know????

it’s an anti-Semitic game!
when you destroy a tank there is a picture of a swastika!
you souldn’t publish this game!!!!!!!-
I am sorry and wish to let the staff of Game giveaway and Give away a day my heartfelt thanks on the whole. Just because some people can not keep Opinions to themselves and write a REAL review of a product.
I do not understand how all of you can be so ungrateful. Ok maybe this game is not what you wanted or expected. I have not met anyone who can please all at one time. I can not imagine that it is easy getting developers to let you give their product away even for one day thats profit lost.
Yes its advertising for them but still each one given away is profit lost. We need to remember how many wonderful things we have gotten and use and still use from the owners of Give away and Game giveaway a day.
Also note that some of us still like Retro games. there are emulators and older style games all over the net as well that you must pay for.I for one would miss the Give away a day sites if they close. Some programs I use some I don’t. But It is not a reason to FLAME the owners. If you don’t want it don’t get it and go on.
I apologize for my OPINION but I got tired of reading FLAMES not reviews once again.
My review is that I do not care for war games and I will anxiously await for the next game posted to see if I would like it.
Keep up the good work Staff I will continue to check each day for the surprizes you leave for us.

Just posted moments ago.......along with my reply, which may or may not make it through moderation.
#11 said:
“What the hell is wrong with you people…… Americans don’t appreciate anything. You get almost everything free and you still complain.”
__________________________________________REALLY? Then I suggest you move here and get a free over-priced house, free $4.00/gal gas, free high food prices, free outrageously priced medical care, and free remarks from people living in other countries who don’t like it where they are at.
As far as this software, I think I will pass on it. Is that okay with you, #11?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Most likely, this would have been censored on Crazy Comments Theatre. As touchy as some folks are, it probably won't survive here, either, so read it while it's hot!
#11's generalizations contain a mix of popular misconceptions and grains of truth. OTOH, a retort referencing our suddenly $4 gas or suddenly rising food prices (when other parts of the world have been paying much more for much longer) risks charges of illogical fallacy.
"what the hell is wrong with you people" - Rhetorical question, that. #11 uses "you people", condemns Americans and chastises poster #5 who has a UK profile link. Talk about a broad brush. Whether #11 is from some failed marxist enclave or a war torn refugee camp, it's nice to see she's got access to an Internet AMERICA created.
WRONG - "Americans don't appreciate anything"
RIGHT - "Many Americans are spoiled, haven't been taught to appreciate much, and most don't realize how high they are on the global materialism percentile pyramid."BACKASSWARDS - "You get almost everything free."
RIGHT - "America is (for now) a top consumer of global products. (that means taxpayers PAY for things, one way or another) Sadly, that means we're also currently the leading driver of global environmental degradation, though China's going to win that olympic event.
The havenots of the world are the complainers, since they're never satisfied with freebies, especially, it seems, what an extraordinarily successful and creative America has given back in the way of foreign aid, emergency relief, debt write-downs, protection, subsidies, etc.
Our success is sputtering and we're slipping down Rome's path. US vs global comparisons show how fast we're plunging - health care, life spans, birth survival, education, telcomm coverage/speeds, and other quality of life issues - because too many Americans are too quick to give up their most precious rights (and freedoms) chasing after failed socialist policies and nutjob terrorists, and the traitors in Congress can't be held accountable.Dear Irina (#11), you're free to mock and chortle. I'm sure when America sinks into history's dustbin and Commie China is in the driver's seat, you'll be sooooo much better off. NOT.

This is a IB4TL Post. Don't think I have done that here before. First time for everything. :)
Gas and food wasn't the way to go. Even our gas over here is higher and we got the oil sands of Alberta.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi, delenn. According to the news, I was under the impression that the funloving canadians had traded those oil sands to the US for an as yet unnamed pick in the next hockey draft. Bush has to keep touting oil as our savior as long as Cheney/Halliburton's calling the shots and there's a retreating glacier somewhere in the world still struggling to drip; off the record, Georgie supports investments in perpetual motion and cold fusion.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Oops, my bad. I haven't read the Toronto Pravda, I mean, Star today. They might have. One thing I have learned here, being a transplant....Never come between a Canuck and their hockey or beer. But even the swill(now I know what a good beer(higher octane) tastes like) you have down there has a higher octane than the oil sands without a refinery. So it is a trade off and like usual Mother Nature looses.

RunesageMagik.....
I have to disagree with your statement that mentioning Gas and Food prices risks charges of illogical fallacy.
Why does everyone always have to come up with the same stupid line, "Well, it's higher in a lot of other places"?
Guess what? We don't LIVE in a lot of other places! I live in the United States. I don't live in Canada or China or anywhere else. I am not going to compare my costs to theirs. I don't give a rat's behind what they are paying for something. I compare my costs to what I am used to HERE, and what costs have been like in the past.
All the people that say, "We shouldn't complain, gas is a lot higher in other countries!".....I NEVER hear them say, "Gas is only 25 cents a gallon in Venezuela!"
I don't care what consumer prices are in other countries any more than I would care what prices are on other planets.
