   Well (copmom) that's good to hear. Sounds like it may have been a little while since you've played it...lol. Playing that very last level is very challenging, but I managed it a few times, and kept of continuing the game and accumulating lives and tools. For some reason, the last couple of attempts to beat it have proven in vain, so I started a new profile, and started playing it anew. I haven't messed with it in a while, now, but got back into Atlantis Quest, which I had abandoned there for a good while. I wish I knew of a good cheat for The Rise of Atlantis, so it would be a lot easier to beat that last level. :D

   Sue - who finally beat level 30 of Kit and Ellis - Kit mode, last night, and went "whoo hoo!!", and did a happy dance...lol

   copmom, it is easy to add extra lives by using the game's hidden controls since 3 lives is just not enough. First though you have to find a file called GameInfo.xml

   It might be under programs in XP, which where I found it on my wife's computer. However, on my Vista computer, it was a hidden file which was harder to find.

   So open the file with wordpad and change your lives to 9 instead of 3. That takes off the pressure and means you don't have to keep starting over.

   If you have a level, you just can't win, you can just change the level and fast forward.

   My wife thinks this is cheating, but she loves the extra lives that I have given her.

   I am on day 81 which looks hard. I may have to figure out how to change the rules a little on this one too. LOL.

   Here is a tip from another site that may be helpful.

   "ok that is easy for this game.

   go to C:\My Games\Around the World in 80 Days

   inside that there is a folder called "base"

   inside that folder is a file called "gameinfo.xml"

   open that file with something like word pad or notepad.

   and find your profile name and then look for "lives=" and change the number of lives.

   save and exit and go to start game.

   have fun with those lives you will need them.

   I got this game on big fish and you have to go around the world 3 times to beat the game."

   A note of caution. Be careful you don't mess up this file, or the game might not play. So write down whatever you change so you can change it back if necessary.

   Well, guess what! I didn't have to use any of those cheats... I beat it all by myself, and am now on the 2nd time around. Started with 9 lives and now down to 6, but up to 60 days.

   Hummmmm, now down to 3 lives. That's what I get for bragging! Those extra 'blobs' they stuck in on the 2nd time around make things a bit more difficult! Might have to use those cheats after all!

   copmom, it is easy to give yourself some more lives. Usually 6 is plenty, but I give myself and my wife 9 to be on the safe side.

   I am stuck on day 81 now. I haven't been able to use the regular cheats so will have to win it the old fashion way. LOL

   we got positively hooked on the new version of Montezuma: the gems are no longer put in a space, but move along rails in different patterns. There are circles that kind of spin etc. - one never knows exactly how the gems fall into place.
   Gosh, I wish they would offer it here.

   I wasn’t so sure about The Curse of Montezuma. It didn't seem to be as exciting to play as the original treasures of Montezuma, but then, I only played about half of a one hour demo, which isn't really enough time to make an informed judgment. so I’ll revisit it on your recommendation because i still think Treasures of Montezuma is perhaps still the best of this genre; though I do love Around the World in 80 Days as well. Has anyone tried 4Elements yet? I played 15 minutes of the demo and was hooked so bought it with my Big Fish Game credit. It’s a pleasant slant on the match three genre, with a feel of Jewels of Cleopatra about it (where you have to create a path by destroying specific matches).

   Sam Rivers, I tried editing the file you said, but didn't get the Word/Note Pad option. I couldn't change anything so I am stuck with the default 4 lives. :(

   RosnSC, right click on "gameinfo.xml" and select "Open with". It will show you the options. You might only get Internet Explorer as an option. You can use it though to edit and to save the file.

   Change your lives to a large number such as 9 to 24 so you won't have to keep editing the file. Make sure you don't delete the quotation marks or the program won't run. Write down what you are going to change and how you changed it before saving the file. Then if the program won't run, you can change it back to the way it was. Or you could print the file.

   Now is this really cheating? I don't think so since the game programers have given you this option to make changes. Some games actually let you choose options to make the game harder or easier.

   Personally I think the progamers should have included this option directly in the game instead of you having to change the file. But maybe they figured some people would figure it out since this is a puzzle game? To me, the really fun part is figuring out how it works so I can cheat? LOL

    Well, I am now on journey 2.

    I was locked on day 81 all week, but I finally beat it.

    The clock was the problem since the time always ran out before I could win.

    So I did the smart thing. I froze the clock.

    Even then it took me over an hour to win. That is really a hard one.

    When all else fails, freeze the clock. LOL

    I suspect that the programers put these backdoors in so that when they want to play this game they can make some adjustments and win easily.

    Sam, after a good bit of trial and error I finally got the "lives" # file changed. Now, how did you freeze the clock without relying on those 'hour glasses'?

    Sue, I did rely on those hour glasses. Those are really helpful, but they freeze the clock for only about a minute. So I added another zero to increase 50 to 500 which extended the frozen time.

    Since day 81 had lots of hour glasses, this worked very well and kept the time frozen until I could win.

    I wish I could find a way just to turn the clock off, but haven't figured that out yet.

    Sam, where did you see the 'hour glass' item on the list? I've looked for it twice now, and don't see it. Have you considered tinkering with this part - 'difficultyLevel="14"' ?

    Sue - who has beaten L81 once, but can't get it again 'to save her life'!

    Sue, it is in GameplayConst.xml.

    I had to change mine to 5000 since day 81 in voyage 2 was so hard. Even then it took me over an hour to win it. You just have to keep moving things until you finally get it. However, you have almost unlimited time by increasing the time bonuses.

    Now I am in Day 80 of journey 3. So I may eventually win the game, unless that really isn't the end. LOL

    Yes, I fooled with difficultyLevel="14" but I didn't see that it did anything.

    Here are a couple of tips/cheats if you're having trouble getting past level 81.

    Go into the options menu and uncheck fullscreen. The game will run in windowed mode. If you click anywhere outside of the game window the game will automatically pause stopping the action and the clock giving you time to consider your next move. While paused the game screen's brightness is dimmed but still readable. Clicking within the game window resumes the game.

    If your time is about to run out simply close the game window and restart. You'll pick up from the level where you left off without losing a life.

    Great tips....thank you. I'd never have thought to do such a thing as I rarely play in windowed mode. I've still got quite a way to go yet though because I've been busy playing other games. I bought 4 Elements a couple of weeks ago, just after Around the World in 80 Days was given away and that has kept my attention. I will eventually return as I was to see more of the screensaver s unlocked.

    I thought I'd lost this game after accidentally uninstalling the demo I'd been using to write up the review, but thankfully I'd created a roll back using Eaz-Fix. A couple of days later I was forced to roll back my system because of installing the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers which were in the beta testing stage. I was really pleased to discover the game had been restored when I rolled back. :)

    Sam, the change to 5000 you mentioned - was that the 'chains 5,9,12' numbers you changed, or something else in that file? I went on the 'chains' theory and changed each one by adding a zero. If I am wrong, please let me know. :D

    Sue, I don't know what would happen by changing the chains since I have never fooled with them.

    This is what I changed.

    <TimeBonus value="50.0"/>

    I changed it to read <TimeBonus value="5000.0"/>

    At first I change it to 500.0 but I kept running out of time on Day 81 the third time around. So I increased it to make sure that it stayed frozen.

    Now if I could figure out a way to turn off those darn blobs. LOL

    The freezing clock time was an excellent suggestion, as well as the lives. Now I can finally get something done. My main problem in day 81 was trying to figure out HOW to do it.. by having a bit of extra time, I now know the concept and was able to beat it!
    As for getting rid of the blobs.. the only thing I've done is hit them with the hammer and that kills them.

    I tried doing what you suggested. I can find the file and make the changes, but can't save them. I get an error message when I try to do that, and I am logged in as the Administrator.

    It says it cannot create the file; make sure the name and path are correct. They are. What am I doing wrong?

    Maybe 5000 is too large?? I just changed mine to 500 and it works.

    Sam, I found the file and changed it to 5000, just as you said. Now all I have to do is try it out...:D.

    oldporscheracer, did you open the file up in, say, NotePad first? That's the only way you are going to be able to edit it; can't just click onto the file and change it - I tried that, and couldn't do anything with it.

    Yes, I tried opening it in NotePad and EditPad Lite. I can make the change; but I can't save the file.

    From what I can see you have the right place. I have XP on my computer - went to C:\Program Files\Around the World in 80 Days, just as you did, and just clicked onto Base, and then found the file I wantd. Right-clicked onto that and selected NotePad. Found the item I wanted to change, changed it to the number I wanted, and then went up to File, and Save As, which pulls up the main game file name, and clicked onto Save. That's it! :D

    Hope I've helped you (and, didn't sound like I was talking to you like you're stupid, coz I didn't mean THAT <g>).

    oldporscherace, since you have Vista it might not be as easy. Do a right click on the file and go to properties.

    Then chose Security. Then users. Make sure checkmarks are in full control and modify.

    I had the same problem since I also have Vista.

    My "gameinfo.xml" was under programs/around the world in 80day/base, but it was the wrong one. So I had to do a search to find it. Mine was in program data which is a hidden file.
