funkymom, I've got an old (1996) flatbed scanner but the only way I can use it is on my OLD 233 computer.. it plugs in with a wide 50 pin connector on the scanner and then the 25 pin connector is connected to the back of the computer. On this machine, there's NO slot for a 25 pin connector.. rats! This goes back to Win95!
funkymom, since your doing things like books, you'll need a flatbed scanner. My 4in1 HP T45 is a scanner/fax/copier/printer but on that one you have to insert the page at the top and it rolls through. I mainly use that one for receiving faxes and copying the school pix daughter gets of the grands so she can have more copies.
Since today's my "old fart" birthday (I'm going to stop having them), hubby asked what I might want, so I've been checking the new HP 4 in 1 deskjet printers with "flatbed" scanners in them. So far I found an HP officejet JS780 for $119.99 and an HP Officejet 6319 for only $199.99. The old one still really works, but the only way I can use it is first I have to turn it on, then boot the old machine up, (which is r-e-a-l-l-y slow),then when I scan something, I save to a floppy so I can put it on here! BIG PAIN!
That 233 is loaded to the gills, Win98, so I need to get anything personal off of there and perhaps give it to someone that needs/wants a computer. I'm trying to make us some room. Next will be the 733 that's in a HUGE tower, but all these oldies are just taking up space!Posted 16 years ago # -
here is funkywii#3:

edit-it doesn't look so grainy on my computer or even on photobucket. i'm not sure why it's so grainy here.Posted 16 years ago # -

it is not a common household object.

Superman's cape!

looks like one of those company-branded calenders or pen/paperclip holders you see in doctor's offices.

no and no.

funky - You were gone a long time. Everything ok?
I think we all gave up because we needed more hints. I'm going back to bed now. Just got up to let dogs out. Later. :)

everything is just fine.
thanks for asking.
gee i must spend way too much time on the computer, if when i go out to run a few errands and then to my class (a fairly normal day for most people) i start to worry folks. ;Dnow that i'm looking at the image again....it is really hard. i think i enlarged a weird area. i'll give some hints and if it's still too hard, i post a different view.
-it's not a common household object. (at least not in modern times or america)
-it's not american, or european, for that matter.
-we have similar items in america(and europe), but these are pretty well known for the area of the world they come from.
-Posted 16 years ago # -
uh, not american or european? that include russia, africa, mideast, or south america? woof.
Posted 16 years ago # -
it was a small hint.
:D

o.k. here's an extra hint.
it's from somewhere you didn't mention either.Posted 16 years ago # -
australia? BuBBy! Help!
uh, could be new zealand, fiji, green- or ice-land...
is norway and that area different?
I think I'm sunk.

That leaves Africa, Asia, Oceania and Antarctica. I think we can rule out Antarctica. Boy, that really narrows it down!!!! :)

i'm going to bed now, but i will post a new view tomorrow.

Hi, the upper left red square looks like a Chinese or Japanese
(sorry don't know the difference) signet.
So I would say it is a...a...a... - don't knowPosted 16 years ago # -
neither do I-maybe the new view would help. speaker?
Posted 16 years ago # -
funky - The reason I asked if everything was ok is because you said, "i have to go out for a while...". I kept checking back to see if you were going to give us more hints. Figured a couple of hours and you'd be back...not 9 hours! ;)
Guess I need to get a life! I've been jobless for 2 months and I don't know what to do with myself. If I don't find something soon, I may go to school too. I've already applied for TAA, just have to figure out what classes to take. Not much available around here and I'd still have to travel at least 30 miles each way. Besides that, I don't know if I have what it takes to go back to school. I can't seem to pick up on things as fast as I did when I was younger. Learning used to be so easy that I didn't even have to try. The last job I had was totally different than anything I'd been exposed to in the past. I felt quite inadequate there. Never really felt equal to others in the same position, even though my supervisor said I was doing fine.

Check this out! I found a "What Is It?" on A Welsh View. You'll never guess. It's amazing!

Good morning all. Wow maizey.. you really must be bored to dig that penguin picture up! But it IS a good one for a guessing game!!
Gloomy, raining, and icky out here today. Gotta go to the PO later and then get us some Chinese 'take out' for tonight. I can cram those containers so full at the 'all you can eat' buffet that there will be enough for a replay on Sunday night!
Now I'm on a search for a new HP multi function photo printer.. found some neat ones, with a flatbed scanner on top as well as even being able to use without a computer hook up, but my sister told me last night (we talked forever), that hers has the ability to even put negatives in a slot and then print out a thumbnail view to choose what to print! Hers is a 2 year old "Photo Smart" HP3310. I'd LOVE that! Have TONS of negatives stored away (pre-digital), and no clue what's on them anymore!
Then I can give my daughter one of my older HP's since hers stopped working.Posted 16 years ago # -
copmom - My current HP scanjet 3970 has the negative/slide slot too. Got it on clearance at Walmart over a year ago but it's going downhill..fast. First the slide scanner quit now half the light for the regular scans is messed up. I must have got a lemon. I did get to scan some old slides of my parents, like their honeymoon, grandparents, aunts, uncles and me as a baby before it broke. Like you, I have a pile of mystery negatives too. I'd like to get a new flatbed too. I don't feel comfortable with all-in-ones, because if one of the functions break then the entire unit is crippled. Then what? Do you just replace the broken part or buy a whole new all-in-one?
BTW - I check A Welsh View about once a week and just happened upon it there. I have a list of interesting blogs bookmarked and visit regularly...even before I became bored. :)

hi guys!
i know what you mean about being out of work and it being tough to go back to school, maizey. there is a program at the community college here designed for adults returning to the workforce (mostly single parents and stay-home moms). the course is designed to help choose a career path and offers a ton of resources, including scholarships and help with financial aid.i am tired of being poor and i want a money-making career, which is kind of weird for me, since i am an extremely non-materialistic person. but, i married a starving musician for love, and stayed with him and supported him (mostly emotionally) for almost 17 years. now that i am out of that marriage, and a single parent, i want to live well and provide for my daughter.
---------------
o.k. now onto something fun.
here is the new image view, i think it will be a lot easier:

we have a friend who travels (a lot) all over the world. he brought this back from china for my daughter. after watching her "try" to fold and unfold it for a few minutes, i confiscated it to keep it safe for a few years.here's his prize:
