goodgotd - A fan of Garfield?
And I should have gotten the light bulb. I used to make them but they didn't have those dimples around the base.

These are some great sites you find, this is another one I've bookmarked.
scubaguy - Thanks. I enjoy finding things. I wish I would find a big old bag of cash!

Goodnight to everyone. I'm going to bed as well.
Scuba - I'm having a blast too.
graylox - I'll send you my mailing address via carrier pigeon in the morning. You can send the money using your preferred method of delivery. Thank you. You are very generous.
funky - Tomorrow is another day.
jinkazama - What is your country?
goodgotd - A fan of Garfield?

yes, I am a fan of garfield, in fact. And motor driven reefers have compressors inside.
This is one of the new twisty florescent bulbs with an electronic ballast housing at the base.
Hm, that gives me an idea, too. A sneaky one....

nope, mine isn't a cartoon, though it is usually printed on paper. Usually seen attached to things. the section in the picture is often overlooked by many who see it.
Oh. let me guess - I will win again : Japan ???????
nope, not anime either.
I'm putting this up for historic purposes- anyone who knows what it is qualifies as a technical computer historian, and I'll note upfront that this is a macro photo at many times actual size. very few will have seen it, especially in the last 30 years- though I have it in my collection.
i'm in Singapore :)
hmmm... haven't seen Archangel around here these few days....
The photo is of core memory. Knew it as soon as I saw it. (Although I've not seen it in person - I remember it from my computer texts back in uni).
Bubby & goodgotd - I'd have never known what the pic of core memory was. Did look it after Bubby identified it. Very interesting read. I cannot imagine the labor that went into fabricating these delicate and intricate woven pieces.

---------------
goodgotd - Can I ask how you came to own this piece of computer history?
jinkazama - So I went to bed in the middle of your day. Now I am up again and in a few hours it will be time for you to sleep. I wondered why I only "see" you at certain times of the day. :-)
BuBBy, mighta guessed you'd see that one and know about it- here's the full pic: http://img511.imageshack.us/my.php?image=core001oi3.jpg
maizeydaze, In my junior year of high school (1976) in Hayward, California I elected to spend half my school day at the hayward-new haven regional occupation center, taking Data Processing.
That year, the DP center had 6 hollerith punchcard machines, 4 teletypes (yes, real teletypes, including 2 with the paper-tape option) and 2 video terminals linked to the tri-county area's Honeywell 6000 series mainframe- and a DEC PDP-8L minicomputer with a high-speed line printer and 4096 bytes of 6-bit core memory.
The next year, the punchcard units were gone, replaced by 8 S-100 bus 8080 based video-display microcomputers running Altair BASIC interpreter, (and cassette save/load) but the H6000 and DEC remained.
That second year we put together an Altair 8800 and got an IMSAI 8080, as well.
The DP teacher and I became fast friends (and keep in contact to this day), and over the years when equipment was administratively decreed to be destined for the local landfill, he'd contact me- I still have 3 generations of CP/M machines from there, along with 3 or 4 terminals... In fact, my first PC, an 80286-12 with 4 megs of RAM and a 20 meg hdd came from there- and when the PDP was slated to be hauled off, I managed to get the processing unit home.
Alas, due to misfortune, over the years I've lost all but the memory assemblies.
But those I still retain and treasure.
in point of fact, the wiki photo actually appears to be a twin to the pair of modules I have.
ok, it was probably used as 2048 bytes of 12-bit, but...
the basic reason was I watched and participated in the beginning of the transition from mainframe-minicomputer centralized computing to microprocessor 'personal' computing and managed to preserve some of it as I rode the wave...
OK.. here's one for you to guess! You can call it mom#1 http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg264/copmom_photo/Babezoomed.jpg
mom#1 - It's your window screen!
Nope, not a screen.. hint 1: it's a part of something much bigger than a breadbox, not everyone has this but is a part of many homes!
mom#1 - Is it a basket/rack in a dishwasher?
EDIT
Or is it the door on a microwave oven?
