YIKES! Is it some type of muffler?
Posted 16 years ago # -
nope, not even close. indoors only :)
Posted 16 years ago # -
Well it's rusty! A drum for a washer or a dryer? Seems there's lots of ball bearings in it?
Posted 16 years ago # -
not rusty, in operation it does bear some vague resemblance to a washer tub (at certain parts of the washer's cycle) in purpose- but much smaller, faster, and doesn't use water. stained stainless steel, about 10" across. it would shred even the smallest clothes.

It is something like a cheese grater?
Posted 16 years ago # -
well, again, it's got some things in common with a cheese grater (saw the tooth, didn't you?) but cheese is something you'd never use it for.
It's in the kitchen, so right room.
not a generalized food processor, this has one very specific job.
this one is a fairly old model but they are sold today.

garlic press?
Posted 16 years ago # -
err. no. not even an industrial one. good ranging shot, though.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody, it that some kind of juicer or maybe a tomato processor?
Posted 16 years ago # -
For making bread crumbs?
Posted 16 years ago # -
no, and recall this is a powered kitchen tool. ponder my reply to maizy.

coffee grinder maybe?

BLENDER PART?
Posted 16 years ago # -
sorry for the delay, disturbed (violently) a yellow-jacket nest and got stung several times. luckily it appear I am not as allergic to the relatively simple venom, (honeybee venom is complex and specifically evolved to do the most damage to mammals- the wasp family it's made for taking out other wasps) but I was gobbling antihistamines, wishing I'd laid in decongestant (whole-body vasoconstrictor), and generally having a very bad day all 'round.
The wife just decided that I didn't need further personal-watch, so I could get to the computer.
in order, not a spud peeler, this is the right thread, not a coffee grinder, and not a blender. it's meant to separate, not mix.

COFFEE MAKER?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Poor Goody.. must not be feeling too well from all those stings! Mean little devils, they don't like being disturbed, especially by a riding mower! We've got them here too, usually wait 'til late in the day when they return to their nests and pour some gasoline in there.

nyet a milk churn, this gets liquids from solids.
first time in 5 years I've seen yellow-jackets at all. in a day or so I'll put a video camera or camcorder on that patch to locate the entrance, not part of the brambles, a easy to avoid spot I was tossing steel rail plates until I have enough to plate the driveway. then I'll terminate 'em.
needless to say I stacked the rest elsewhere. freakin OW with a vicious itch. AND nasty joint pain too.
that's one thing I found yesterday that'll come in handy- an nec V30L vhs camcorder with 8x optical zoom, IR autofocus, 1" macro and ccd sensor. in a hard case, 5 bucks. needs a new battery but has the ac adaptor/breakout box, so I can use it as a monitor camera to track stuff. not new but not ancient either. and the quick-set tripod is just sitting around...

Hi Goody.....Is it an apple press?
Sorry to hear about the stings.....OUCH! Even one can be very painful.
Posted 16 years ago # -
no pressing at all, though again close but off the mark.
the really annoying ones came inside with me- in my shorts.

Is it a juicer?
Great bargain for $5!! We were just talking about wishing we had a set up for night time to see what has been going into our shed to clean all the cat food bowls every night! We have 4 bowls out there and only 4 adult and 3 bitty kitty's here and they cannot possibly all eat as much as we put out! What we did was put a wood 'block' in the door to keep it from opening all the way, and then a bungie cord to keep it shut.. just a small 5" space is open. I suspect either a opossum or a coon!Posted 16 years ago # -
give the lady a cee-gar! it's the separator drum of an ACME SUPREME JUICERator- (model 5001) here's a wider view of the drum.
I'm waiting for the mash to cool right now so I can use the juicer to strain the seeds out for blackberry jelly- don't have cheesecloth handy.
the haze the other day made for some interesting clouds with midair shadows- here'a another. then I got a fair shot of a sunflower blossom.
the crookneck squash blossom is about average, though.
I'll post over in the 'don't read' thread what I find, but I think little remote cams with infrared leds for total dark are cheap. just run a video cable to your vcr.

I'm posting pics in the 'don't read, thread .. I've got some clouds too as well as sunflowers behind the chain link fence.
Hey.. we had one of those juicers.. but gave it away. It's a pain to clean! As for cheesecloth for the blackberry jelly, we used a paint can strainer to do that, NEW of course! I'm not doing blackberry this year, already did apricot/pineapple, and will do concord grape when those are ready.. usually between mid Sept.-mid Oct. depending on the weather.
Posted 16 years ago # -
may be a pain to clean, but sure gets all the good stuff out fast. call it seedless jam, I guess. been over 20 years since I even watched somebody make jam.
like I said, no sense in wasting the berries on the vines I remove.
and cheaper than buying stuff that's not as good, eh?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Nothing tastes better than home made jams & jellies! That's why we did the apricot / pineapple.. our neighbor got almost 3 bushels out of his tree, first year it had fruit, all this time he thought it was a plum. Anyway, he brought us down about 1/2 bushel and didn't dare let them go to waste. Another good one is strawberry / pineapple. But our grape is extra yummy because we make it extra rich. Oh, this year the jars have really gone up! Used to be about $5 a dozen pint size, now almost $9! And seedless is the only way I'll eat blackberry.
Posted 16 years ago # -
I'm with you there, but when it comes out of the juicer it's seedless indeed. everything else but a bit of the skins come out, though- thick and fruity.
would you suggest finishing the process as a jelly or jam? it's been mashed and boiled 5 min already.. we reuse jars and just wax-seal, normally.
