Looks as though this offer is good for the week. Perhaps sandlot offers a free game every week? Worth keeping an eye on I suppose. Thanks for the heads up
- Edit -
Sandlot has just started their free game of the week promotion. Every Monday, they will be listing a new game of the week. I assume that to mean that the game will be available Monday through Sunday.

That's great news.

This is good news; though its probably one more nail in the coffin for the game giveaway project. There's enough commercial quality games being given away by different distributors now to satisfy most community members needs. :)
There were no free games being given away (apart from sites like gametop) when the giveaway project was first started at the end of 2006. Which is why it was so successful at the time. It didn't take long for all these other sites to start offering free games. Its quite a good way of pulling people into your site and probably getting more sales because of it. I for one would much rather buy a game from a developer/distributor thats give me games previously.
I do hope that the game giveaway project does remain viable because as its a great meeting point for gamers.

Thanks Terri & Wizz.

Are these free games from Sandlot ad-supported or have any other "gotchas" with them? This game is not my style but I bookmarked the site to watch it each week.
Posted 15 years ago # -
I've played through the first two tutorials (about 15 minutes or so) without any ad interruptions. I tend to believe this is a completely free game. I didn't get any toolbar opts or homepage changes so I think this is a genuine gotcha-free promotion. Not to say that it won't be in the future.

Thank you, wow a free game every week without ads. Thank you Sandlot. This is something that is going to do really good. Maybe it is the answer to gamehouse's free game of the day with advertisements.
I really hope gamehouse gets more games on their site.
The game won't launch on my computer.

Michelle,
If I remember correctly from other threads, you are using a 64 bit system.
So I have researched the issue and came up with more than a thousand hits which I whittled down to a few significant ones.
It seems it has to do with some issues:
1) Vista's (and probably 7's) way of addressing memory for games is different and sometimes problematic.
For more on this, check these links (just be aware it can get a little technical):
Virtual address space usage in Windows Vista game development
A Messy Transition: Practical Problems With 32bit Addressing In Windows
2) WOW64 ( No it is Not "World of Warcraft" ) WOW stands for Windows on Windows and it essentially gives each application its own 4GB of virtual memory space, which isolates it from other applications.
The downside, if you can call it that, is that you'll want to load your system up with as much memory as possible. While you can use just 2GB in your system, 4GB or even 8GB is desirable — assuming your motherboard supports it.
On the other hand, installing and running 32-bit apps can occasionally be a chore.
A 32-bit application that has any remaining 16-bit code won't run, because WOW64 doesn't support any 16-bit code.
Also, 32-bit applications and 64-bit applications get their own folders. "Program Files" is reserved for 64-bit apps, while "Program Files (x86)" is for 32-bit software.
For more on this, check this link:
So in conclusion, here are a note from Microsoft's F.A.Q. and a trick for Vista64 "that will probably work with 7" (found on several gaming forums):
Here is the note: Can I run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit computer?
Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs.
Device drivers designed for the 32-bit version of Windows don't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows. To learn how to check for drivers, see Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly or go to the device manufacturer's website. You can also get information about drivers by going to the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor webpage.
For more F.A.Q., see here: 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions
The trick: Vista64 has a 32bit compatibility layer so you can run both 64bit and 32bit
apps/games.A few tips for gaming in Vista in general:
Do not install games to the default Programs(X86) folder as that is a protected folder and some older games can't write their save games there, install it on a secondary internal drive (I have it on my D: drive in a folder named Games Without Frontiers) or if if you don't have another internal, put it in a folder you create (like C:\My Offered Games or some such).
Install latest version of Directx because Vista shipped with Directx10 and is missing a file some older games need (Installing the latest version of Directx will put that file back in place and not mess up DX10).
Some games need administrator access (right click the game executable and select run as administrator).
Hope this helps

Where are my manners?
I forgot an important thing!
Thanks a million to Terri218 for the information and to wizzard_of_ozz2004 for the link

You are welcome. It is nice to be able to give back to all the people that have given me so much great information and so many free games.
Posted 15 years ago # -
thanks Terri for the info!!
WR, YES I hope that the game project DOES stay viable as we have such a nice community here ,as you say..
:)Posted 15 years ago # -
I got the game running by running it as administrator. It is definitely not a game I would enjoy.

I decided to go ahead and get a copy of this game and ended up with three activation codes. I was having some difficulties while on the orders page so ended up clicking a few more times than I'd have liked to. when I checked my Email I had four emails from Sandalot games. The first was to confirm my account details and the other three had different activation codes, lol. Then I checked my reflexive folder only to discover I'd already bought this game a couple of years ago, lol.
I'm certainly looking forwards to seeing what's on offer each week, but I suspect most of the games will be first in the series type games and most of the older games, which means I'll probably already have them. I went mad buying arcade games shortly after my accident because I found playing games distracted me from the pain I suffer significantly. I ended up purchasing over 800 games from Reflexive over a period of about 2 years up until the game giveaway project was born in Dec 2006. They were far more effective at staving off the pain than the morphine that I still take now, but I don't buy as many arcade games now as they are nearly all Hidden Object Games. I like the genre, but it seems like there's a new one being released every day at the moment. I've even cancelled my Big Fish subscription because of the HOG's, lol.

You canceled bigfish? I am currently with gamehouse (gamepass monthly) $9.99 two funtickets a month. I really like it. And if you want more funtickets it is 6.99 each. I just wish gamehouse would get more games in.
Posted 15 years ago # -
I went to get the game, mostly to check out whether they have the GameHouse-type ads. I noticed they want not only your mailing address but your phone number as well.
Posted 15 years ago # -
That's odd; I was asked only for name, username, email, and birthdate (though I don't know why they need a birthdate either...) Don't know if I will like it, either, but decided to try it anyway. Thank you, Terri.
Posted 15 years ago # -
I didn't get any requests for that Sue. Are you sure that you cancelled the option for the back-up disc? If you didn't cancel that out, then they would need that information to ship it to you.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Ok, after playing for a couple of hours, I have to say, I like the game except for the very slow scrolling, and a minimap that isn't very good, and I have to click to get to it. There also is a lot of micromanaging. However, the storyline is pretty good, and there is a decent amount of strategy.

Westward was supposed to be last week's game. When are they changing it for this week?
Posted 15 years ago # -
According to their website, they'll have a new game on Weds.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Nope website says every Monday. You're probably referring to their post about "you only have 2 days left to get Westward free." That post was made on Saturday. There should be a new game today. I would have thought they would have it by now. I'm not too worried though as it's freely available for a week.
~Edit~ I did notice that the time they announced that they have started this promotion was one week ago today in about 8 more hours. Maybe it will be available then? Hopefully not as that's rather late.
Posted 15 years ago # -
Where are they located? That could determine the start of "Monday". It would be nice to have a good thing you could depend on happening on Mondays!

Is anyone else getting this when they go to the site?
Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL
Posted 15 years ago # -
Tiffany,
That means their site is down. It's not a good sign when the database crashes. At least the game is supposed to be good for a week. Does anybody know what kind of game Glyph is?
Posted 15 years ago # -
Yup, it's down. Should be up within an hour if they're diligent, though.
Posted 15 years ago # -
I did, but then a couple of minutes later it went away. Downloaded glyph...got bored, uninstalled. Too slow in my opinion.

Dragon Lair, it looks like a match 3;

I don't know if I want it but will see what others have said..
(I bet they never imagined that they would get so much traffic on their site!I am going to try later..)Posted 15 years ago #
