Great idea on the Battle of Games with varying discounts! I am looking forward to future rounds. Neither of these two excite me although there should be a clear winner as pointed out by this review of The 7th Guest that provides numerous comparisons to Myst. As pointed out, Myst is clearly superior. The two free games are more my type. I already have both, but it is nice to have the digital versions with the including extras (clue books, maps, manuals, reference cards, etc.).

I like the idea as well - though I voted for the 7th Guest as I already have Myst the Masterpiece edition three times (via GOG, Steam and a hard copy).

Myst is still ahead by over 1500 despite WR's vote. Since this battle is just to determine which gets the bigger discount not which is better, I guess I can understand rationale. Now it appears the Battle is rabbit vs. graylox for who buys a game.

As Myst is the cheaper game, even 40% off is fine - and I will get it. <$ 5.- are my price limit for games I already have on Steam.

I'm sure Myst will win the vote. I never purchased The 7th guest when it was originally released; the description and comparison between the two certainly indicates that myst deserves to win, but you can see why i voted for it. :)

GOG says they are going to have Gem Promos every Wednesday highlighting specific classic games. Today only you can get Darkstone (a 1999 Diablo clone, but the graphics look more like Torchlight) for $2.39. That is 60% off. It is tough to find review for these older games, but here is a pretty decent one from GameSpot. This is GOG's Gemstone description of the game:

I already bought Ultima 7 and am seriously considering replaying it. When I first played it, it was almost more than my computer could handle. Now even my laptop may not even have to wake up to handle it. Well OK, it probably can't handle it in it's sleep, but close.

Rise of the Triad: Dark War, the planned Wolfenstien 3D sequel that happened to become so much more, is easily distinguishable from the contemporary first person shooters. It stood out so much in the genre that was still taking its first unsure steps towards maturity, that it only can now be described as underrated and underappreciated at the time of release--a fate shared by many pioneering titles. This game had Wolfenstein-grade fanatics for bad guys, Duke-worthy humor, and multi-layered level design that Doom lacked. It had a variety of multiplayer modes (for up to 11 players!), and a No One Lives Forever-esque storyline. In many ways it was foreshadowing its rivals and anticipating features of its successors. The reboot/remake that is currently developed by the revived Apogee Software is aiming to capture the charm of the classic version. But before that happens--make sure to get well-acquainted with the original.

There are some great games here. I already the GOG version of 8 of them and may consider more during this sale.

BTW, I am currently replaying the GOG version of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 using the enhanced Baldur's Gate setup from an article they ran a couple of days ago. I am enjoying playing it on my 27" widescreen monitor.
