Just my opinion but I hate it. You've made the font much smaller. Plese take pity on the older members with poorer eyes and enlarge the font.
BTW I had written a wonderful post which didn't take (probably because you were changing the site at the time) so now you'll never know what I said because I don't want to retype it - LOL.
Terri, you may be able to change the font and/or size for your browser or even your page. Remember you can always use ctrl-+ to enlarge it!
I like the layout. It caught me off guard and didn't come up right at first but a refresh took care of that. It's got "Remember Me" now! That will make it easier to express my opinions without having to remember to log in!
It also looks like it has general PMs and Avatars. I'll have to go check my profile.
What it doesn't have is a link back to the giveaways themselves! I'll need a separate shortcut, I think.

Yes I see I am still logged in so that is a very good thing. I used to get so frustrated in having to log-in each time even if it was a short time after I visited.
And yes I can change the text size but I'll have to remember to change it back and it's an extra step I have to go through.

Terri, if font sizes and having to remember to change them (back) all the time is an issue - you could probably do with "NoSquint"
It is a firefox addon that sounds perfect for your needs - and gives complete (and individual) control over text and graphic sizes, over what is provided in Firefox.
This also fixes sites with problem foreground, background and link colors (or just problem website designers)

Very much appreciate the effort that went into it. Thank a lot for the PM option. It may not turnout to be a good idea, but I'm very gratified that you folks were willing to try it. Also, I think the best thing is the markup buttons that don't require you to type in markup language. That's a big help! Thank you. As to the look and the avatars, I'm neutral. I've always been more into substance than style, anyway. I don't need a Gucci bag for my groceries, a brown paper one will do, but it certainly brings the forum more into a web standard style. And, again, I DO appreciate the effort.
Have to agree on the text, though. I'm afraid I feel it's unnecessarily small. I'm not sure there was any problem with the former text size. Have to say I'm fondest of Arial 11, though some would say that's too large. But I think Times New Roman 10 or 8 and similar are more a convention than a logical selection. For any website, readability is perhaps the most essential element to attracting visitors.
Also, I noticed the links to the main GOTD pages are gone. That's hardly a killer, but it seems like it would be a logical convenience.
Edit 40 minutes later: just noticed that I can still edit even though others have posted and also that you now have individual page links for long topics. Again only a minor upgrade, but still seems a good idea. Looks there will be a lot of interesting changes.
Don't forget - there are lots of old options that have not been added YET.
I'm sure the GOTD Team are still working on the user forums and changes will continue to appear for a little while yet. So don't get too upset - I'm sure the job won't be finished until everything is nicely in place.

Well this is a pleasant surprise! The forum certainly looks smarter and the new coat of paint is eye-catching when first encountered.
But I have to agree with those who have already commented on the font size. It is too small for me now even with glasses whereas before it was just right. Please can we go back to a larger font size?
I haven't worked out what to do with these simplified buttons yet - no formatting for me for a while.
I look forward to seeing what other enhancements are added. Well done GOTD team.
I just noticed something. All my old PMs are gone! I had several from WhiteRabbit and now they're gone. There wasn't an auto-delete mechanism so I didn't download them.
It would have been nice to have some notification so we could save this stuff if we wanted it.

Well done! Aside from the vanished PMs all the nice loveletters...
I haven't explored everything, so I don't know what kind of avatars are possible, but I really hope that we won't have those blinking animated pictures, which are only looking funny as long as you just see one for some seconds - IMHO :)

Made me do one of those eye blinking out of focus into focus double takes. LOL Took me by surprise.
Font is on the small side but not too bad.
Could use some links to bring up the main giveaway and blog pages on this page, and the forum/general discussion pages.
Other then that the look is nice.
I am lost. Wasn't the "old forums" also built using BBPress? From reading these comments I get the impression this is a whole "new" forums but to me it seems like the theme was just changed and more plugins were added.
EDIT: Forgot to mention I like the new look =). The only thing it is missing is a link back to GOTD proper.

Yes, these are still the same forums as always. However, the "Kakumei Blue" theme is now being used. Also, the new avatar feature using "Gravatar" and a few other minor changes were made. But overall it creates a whole "new" look that many will enjoy.
For those of you who are having problems seeing because the font is smaller. If you are using FF, you don't need a plug in. CTRL-+ and CTRL-- are for each SITE! If you set it here, it will not only not affect any other site, it will be remembered from session to session.
Try it! Do one or two CTRL-+ and then go to another site that you normally use. NO change. Now close and reopen FF. The zoom setting for here is the same as you last left it.
FF has some neat features without extra plug-ins!
Will definitely take some "getting used to" but I already like that we can upload our pics for avatars. I use Firefox and the page layout font is severely overlapped, but that may be because I use an add-on that allows me to adjust the fonts on websites.
Overall, I think I like it! :-)

The forums do look "cleaner", but I object to the individual message threads not have their source forum listed. I have no interest in games and have been scanning the new forum posts by quickly going past those in the "games forum" for example. Please bring the extra tag back!
