I named myself for who I wanted to be. Actually, my name was longer; freebird31wizard... but that became to long to be a username on every forum... took me ages to put in ;-)
and I've been swirlingsoul too, but freebird stuck to me, and once, I was 31 ;-)

Mine was because when I was in the military I used to pack my rucksack heavy and I demanded the same from my "joes"; every now and then somebody will fall behind and I carried their packs so we make time and they can rest some, record was three; thus "Damn Sarge, you are a StrongF#ck". Yes, they paid for it later...

Well, unfortunately mine is very unimaginative. I have been using ibwebb for a looong time though and now it is just stuck to me. I was listening to the radio (Bob and Tom if anyone cares) and they were talking about vanity plates. This was happening while I was trying to come up with a username for my yahoo account. So I went with the obvious.
I be Webb = ibwebb (my name is Gregg Webb)
Just a note: Bubby (I have heard several ways it should be spelled) is Jewish for grandmother I have been told. Though I am not Jewish.. my mother didnt want to have one of the usual grandmother nick names that are thrown around and liked the sound of it so all of her grandkids have called her Bubby/Bubbee/Bubie/Bubbie since they could talk. Just thought I would throw that out there. BTW my mom says when she is out with the grandkids she gets lots of people asking her about it and/or is she is Jewish. It is funny to see the looks when she says 'No'.

I have several. The one I use here is my nickname. I also use Shauri (Sha-uri (from the movie Stargate, spelling was changed for the TV series to Sha're but pronounced the same)), Shaarmila (an East Indian name I misspelled should be Sharmila), Rani (another East Indian name, Shiafa (been so long I've forgotten where I or how I got it). I chose names by the way they sound to me. My grandkids call me Yaya.

Like Samm, I use several. My name is used here, but on other sites it may be my US Navy rating AX2USN (aviation anti-submarine warfare electronics instructor, Petty Officer 2nd Class). Occasionally, I use Hillbilly Girl simply because I have always enjoyed being outdoors amidst the wonders of nature. You might even say I've nurtured an aversion to asphalt, concrete, traffic, smog, office buildings and all things city related.

Oh ask your wife if she minds if I use her name as one of my usernames, I like the sound of it, sort of trips off the tongue so to speak. I also like it's meaning "Wolf Ruler".
Paul, so THAT is the explanation! I always thought your name was Paul, and the 'ga' referred to a job-related or perhaps location-related abbreviation. I even tried it out as an acronym >grin< Guess it's the military in me. BTW, I, too, love your daughter-in-law's name. Lovely and ultra-feminine derivative of Saint Ulric ... but from Sweden? Norway? Finland? Inquiring minds ...uh...inquiring :]

Mine comes from the name of a Van Halen song, 'The Full Bug' I also post on a Van Halen fan site so I came up with something VH related, I actually met a few members from there once and everyone just called me 'bug' so maybe I made the wrong choice, lol....

ah the name Ulrika is my youngest sons wife,..she would be pleased if it were used,..i like that name,..her mother is Ulla-Britt,..nice sounding names,...exercise for the tongue when speaking them.
Oh not to confuse anyone,..my user name is Paulga,..my given name is Philip,..though most of you know this,...i also go under the name glengarry23,...that came from the type of beret i wore in the military,...another name for you,..is Atlantis,..it helps prevent me getting mixed up when i get emails from other forums.

My user name, RosnSC, is a sort of spin off of Rosulen which is my Yahoo, and other areas, ID. I use this ID on all forums I belong to. The Ros part is obvious, but the nSC part is for where I live - in S.C.
Rosulen - similar to Paulga's, it is comprised of syllables of my 3 names - the first syllable of the first 2 names, and the last syllable of my last name. My boys liked my idea so much that they did the same with theirs, except that one added some numbers on the end of his.

@RosnSC ... <perk!> South Carolina?! Where 'bouts? I used to live on Lady's Island, outside of Beaufort. Mercy, what a beautiful state. Throw in a cast net and retrieve 20 pounds of huge shrimp. Use them for bait for sting ray and those for shark. Could fish through several tidal changes at Paradise Pier....just moving from one side to the other. To this day, I can't look at shrimp without recalling those halcyon days.

BTW ...Dad would be the famous one, as much for his music as his stage work; I was the .. ahem .. infamous one. Alas, we lost Dad to Alzheimer's a couple years back. How I miss his music!

Speaking of grandkids.. had a flashback. When our oldest grandson was little he'd call hubby PaPa.. and naturally, in his mind, he'd call me MaPa! Pretty inventive I think!

Bobby,...nope not Her Majesty's Fusiliers,..but i did work,.."another name for it",..with them in the Mid East,..we were Armoured Car....Cav Corps,..first in and last out,..Panhard Armoured Cars,...two 7.62 machine guns and a 60mm mortar,..sometimes a 120mm mortar,..noisy!,..but devastating!,...our cap was the famous Glengarry,..(and so my YouTube name)..with black streamers,..colors were red black and green,..meaning through mud and blood through the green fields,...Africa,..Cyprus,...Lebanon,...and other places!,..we were Irish Defense Forces,..stationed with the United Nations,..Canadians,Americans,Swedes,Fins,Austrians,Australian Police,and British.
Mine came from my 4 year old cousin and my grama about 20 years ago. For some reason she couldn't pronounce my name, Karen, and called me Kareeker. Grama shorted it to Reeker and my best friend found out and it kinda stuck. In fact, most people don't even know my real name! Lol. The 001 came from my not wanting to be Reeker82537746199452 on messangers. So I became Reeker001.
