I've been coming to GOTD for a year or so and it wasn't until recently that I elected to become a more "vocal" visitor and it was due to an esteemed regular we all have come to appreciate - Whiterabbit. Since I've seen so many of the same names regularly I decided to find out where everyone "hails" from. I find it amazing that the website brings so many different cultures and countries together. People from all parts of the world and walks of life have found common ground. If the whole world could only be so. It's nice to meet new people, even if only on a familiar website. Kind of like making new friends. I hail from Nashville, TN, home of country music, yet I'm more of a rocker. Ha, ha. Glad to meet everyone.

I think we did this one time before but I'm game.
I'm in Western Kentucky, USA. Retired Cop. hehehe

sukibabe, thanks for the tip. I had already found that useful little tidbit, haha. Alot don't state where they hail from though. Just general chat - ice breaker - making my "debut" in a manner of speaking. And Archangel, I'll mind mind "p's" & "q's", ha, ha. Retired or not, I'm sure you still have you "contacts", ha,ha. Prior military myself. Long line of military family. I did my stint with criminal investigations. ha,ha. I just think it's cool so many cultures can meet in one place.

Hi Nash....nice to meet you. Actually there was a thread a while back for this, you can see it here: Where am I (Not that it's a bad idea to start a new one since there are so many new ppl here, just thought you might like to see the thread).
I have a cousin in Nashville....ever hear of The Chigger Hill Boys and Terri? If so, Terri is my cousin. They sing blue grass style gospel music. A few years ago they were nominated for the Dove Award.....didn't get it but they were honored just for being nominated......maybe next time....
Hi Suki & Arc.....I haven't been "pc-ing" mutch lately due mostly to medical issues. Good to see the old familiar folks :)
Oh.....almost forgot....I'm in PA
BKPosted 16 years ago # -
Thanks for the thread Buckleysmom. Good stuff there, the humor. haha. Good to meet you. Sorry, haven't heard of your cousins. Though I like country music and know about the Dove awards, I'm a rocker essentially. PA is pretty country. Been there. Grew up in the military, born in Augsburg and did my military stint in Germany as well. I've had the opportunity to see so many wonderful places. The furtherest north I lived is DC/Maryland or Jersey.

Hi, nashcat, nice to meet you. I used to be a regular here in the forums, but like Buckleys I'm not so much around at the moment due to health issues. Fortunately a lot of new friends found the way to this site making the forums even more colourful and fascinating. Read that you are born in Augsburg. I am German, living in Berlin. As you are a rocker, I can only say : come to Berlin - Berlin rocks!
Wonderful Berlin ;)
Have a happy day or night

graylox - I lived over 7 years in Germany as well as being born there. Germany does rock. I remember taking a disco train from Heidelberg down to the Octoberfest. It was awesome. It's been so long ago now, but I believe they held the fest in Munich. I've lived in Heidelberg, Dilheim-Horrenburg (outside Heidelburg), Kaiserslautern and Wurzburg. Of course we traveled all over as well. One of my fondest memories of growing up are when we'd hike up and play in the old castle ruins as kids. I have many fond memories of Germany as and adult as well. I also miss the haupstrasse (sp?)all the shops the fresh prezels, brats, gluwine (sp?). I loved to stroll the strausse, window shop and eat. haha. I never went to Berlin. I am Irish, Indian, Italian - just happened to born there - military.

Hey nashcat, nice to meet you. Did you serve at Ft. Campbell? I started my career there, actually policing outside of the base in Oak Grove.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Archangel - No, I didn't serve at Ft. Campbell, my father did - go 101st. I served at CIDC headquarters Europe and the Commumications Headquarters -Pentagon, Ft. LJ McNair and Ft. Myers. Loved every minute of it. Admin Specialist. Desk jockey, haha.

Hi all.. I'll add my 2 cents. We live in Western North Carolina 18 years now, (in the mountains - halfway between Asheville, and the TN state line). Moved here from Southern Calif. after living there 32 years! Born in Buffalo, NY, then raised in the Bronx, NY until hubby 'rescued' me. We married when I was 17, and now have 50 years under our belt. I think I still hold the title of being the "oldest" one on here!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Well copmom, here are two challengers for your title.
It is a draw though, on your figures. We could be down to days here!Posted 16 years ago # -
Hi nashcat,
I hail from a couple of hours away from Okie City. I lived in Nashville about 10 years ago for a bit. One house was off of Dickerson Road and Ewing or you could say I-65 and Ewing. The other place was off Gallatin Pike and Briley Prkway. I know huge move, lol. It was nice though. I could get off work and head I65 , take Ellington the exit at Ewing/Broadmoor Dr. for either home.
I do miss it, but I was born around here, being used to wide open spaces, it is hard to get used to the mountains. They start closing in you. I did notice all the different cultures when I was there. It's funny with all the cultures there, the Mennonites and Omish stuck out the most to me and they are from there, of course you had to get out of the city to see the Omish.
Did they ever finish the road construction at Murfeesboro Rd and Briley Prkwy. I think next in line was I-65@Briley Pkwy. That road construction was going on in that same spot the 3 or 4 years I lived there. Anyway, glad your here and nice to meet you.Posted 16 years ago # -
My name is Paul and I'm 52.
I am a fully bilingual Canadian now but in my heart, I'm still that little French kid as I was born on St-Pierre island ( A DOM or Departement Outre-Mer of France ) situated near Newfoundland.
After moving to Montreal, QC, Canada at age 9 and staying there (and around) for 41 years until my retirement a year and a half ago, I am now in Mirabel, QC.
I also stayed 8 months last year in La Malbaie, QC just to get away from it all.
Since I answered the "Where am I" thread 4 months ago, I am busier and happier than ever !
Retirement is a state of mind !
Ciao

Quantum.. don't you know once someone retires they're busier than they ever were? Makes you wonder how they found time to work?
Trevanbabz... how close are we when you say 'down to days'??
Posted 16 years ago # -
I'm retired, lost my eldest son two years ago, my mom died five days later. Besides my wife, this site and all the regulars have been my day.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Txnnok - Briley Pkwy. They have finished Gallatin Rd @ Briley - my exit. I'm up in Madison. I think they finished Briley @ Dickerson. I work out towards the airport, so I don't go that direction. I've lived in Nashville since 84 when I got out of the service. Dang - it's been awhile, haha. I moved to Alabama while my grandma was in the nursing home. Boy was I ever glad to get back home, haha. Nice to meet you too.
Hi Pookie & Quantum Dragon. Nice to meet y'all. French - been to Paris. Spent New Years there one year. Awesome time.

You guys all sound so interesting, I love hearing about the different places you're from or you've been. I love to travel and I'd like to hit all the states but other than Canada I doubt I'll ever make it out of the USA.
I'm "sort of" retired.....had to quit due to medical issues. I loved my work and never thought I'd like leaving it altogether but I really do like being home and being free. I have a friend who retired in April and he's so busy now he says, "How did I ever find time to work?" (He raised 11 kids so he never had the time to notice how busy he was).
Anyway....hi to all the "newbies".

Hi Nashcat & All.
Everyone sounds so interesting, unlike myself. Here's a little about me.
I'm from north central Ohio, USA, and I've lived here ALL my life. I now reside across the road from where I lived as I grew up - my Mother still lives there. I "farm" that farmstead and other land my Father purchased, plus some rented land. As you can tell, a boring person and an OLD "farmer" would best describe me and my life (and lifestyle), but that is fine with me.
I've traveled some on vacations (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, The Black Hills, The Garden of the Gods (Colorado), The Great Smoky Mtns. - wife has relatives in Concord near Knoxville - Disney World, Boston, NYC, DC, and even into Canada a little - Windsor to Toronto) over MANY years time. Mass. will probably be my only destination in the future as my daughter and her family live between Boston and Providence R.I.I only participate in the forums occasionally, and usually under "Word Ass'n", though I do read some of the other topics. And, if I might be so bold, I would welcome all who are new here AND keep the dialog going, otherwise this whole thing dies and that would not be "a good thing".

Hi nashcat and everyone else,
My name is Mary and I am from Scotland. I have lived my 40 years here.
I have lurked here for about a year but was only moved to come out of the shadows to thank Stephen/Whiterabbit for his game links.
I really enjoy visiting this forum every day. It is a bit like checking on old pals who you haven't heard from for a while!! I am a stay at home mum with quite a few health problems. Because of these I don't get out much, so my computer is truly like a window on the world.
Kindest regards to you all,
Mary

Birth- thru-high school, I spent in Vienna, Va. (about 10 miles from downtown D.C.) then wandered off to western Montana . . . and ran outta $$ here . . . in 1973-4, where I'll likely end up permanently, if ya know what I mean!

Hello MrFishy, Mem, OldandSlo, Samm, Butch552, goodgotd, nice to meet you all. I haven't responded to you yet. My name is Cathy and as Archangel said, it's getting to know some by name. I'm like copmom, I visit this forum every morning and throughout the day. It's a nice place to chill and enjoy good company. I'm glad to be a part of it.

Hello from sunny North Dakota. I've lived here all my life. I was raised on a farm, spent a few years living and working in a town, married my husband, and, dang, if he didn't decide to be a farmer after a few years. That wasn't my life plan, but I'm happy it turned out this way. Playing games keeps me sane!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Debbie..."playing games keeps me sane".....ditto!
I'm glad I have my pc especially on days like today....we got hammered over night with a very wet heavy snow here in northeast PA.....more than 6 inches. It has all the trees bent over and of course our satellite dish is covered so we have no signal. No TV, can't go out, power's off and on......so that leaves only the pc. UGH! I am not looking forward to a long cold winter.
Oh yeh....name's Rox or Roxie
