According to a search I have just done (still going on), a copy of that file is in EVERY Alawar game you download, whether through Gamebox or directly. Maybe you can copy the file from one of your games to the GameBox folder. They appear to be different sizes. The one in my Gamebox is 819 Kb but the other one I looked at was 1008 Kb.
It might not work but it's worth a try.

Just removed the Box again, I watch it run while I reinstall it! I see them unpacking that file, but it doesn't show up in the folder for the Box when I look for it! Looks like I am getting a corrupt download from them!
I think I'm SOL, as trying to get a hold of them is worse than dying, roflmbo

Maybe that's why Comcast has stopped using McAfee. They're switching to Norton in May. I use Avira and I've not had a problem. I stopped using McAfee years ago because they were severe resource hogs and blocked all access to the internet - especially sites with ANY graphics. My boot would take up to 5 minutes. I was working with Microsoft on the access problem and they were wanting me to do a destructive restore. I removed McAfee and replaced it with ZoneAlarm firewall and AVG anti-virus and the problem went away!
I gave up AVG a year or so ago because they got to hoggy on the resources. So far Avira is working fine!

I got the two emails - initial notice and reminder on one of my comcast email addys because I used to have it. I understand Norton is much better now but I had a BAD experience with Norton several years ago. They dropped support of 95/98/ME about a year before Microsoft did. The last version that did support ME was a nightmare. It took me 5 days and at least that many emails to upgrade my "SystemWorks" BECAUSE it was an upgrade. It should have taken 10 minutes MAX! A direct install would not have been as difficult. After that, the "new" version was only for XP and contained the same balky version I had for other OSs.
I also heard of several people who decided they didn't want Norton and could not get rid of it. Especially if it had expired, they often had to do destructive restores to get it out. That was why one of the FIRST think I did when I got my latest PC (in 2007) was to completely uninstall the "trial" Norton that was pre-installed.
They may be good now but I, like many others, got so burned by them, that they're going to have to go some lengths to convince us that they're worth anything now!

I found the culprit! Why is it all of a sudden doing it now!
This is beginning to tick me off with them! They usually will flag it right away when I try to install! I dusted off IE and saved the file, then scanned it!
What a bunch of bs, now I will have to disable McAfee when I want to download the new game! I never had a problem with them until the new 2010 version!
Ran it thru SpyBot and they gave it a clean bill of health!
Guess I am in the market for a new Security Center, rofl

The "getting rid of Norton software" problem was apparently bad enough (aka they had so many complaints) that there's a Norton Removal Tool on the Symantec/Norton site:
The page says it's for "failed installation or a damaged Norton product," but I'm told it works for a lot of Norton products you can't get rid of any other way. Sounds like it may remove ALL Norton products you have installed, so use with caution.

Well like you had problems with Norton. I had problems with Mcafee. The year was I think 2003 and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse. LOL a little joke. I think the year was 2003 and I think the Mcafee version was 7.0 and my mom bought it for me and I happily installed it. I was a Mcafee sheep back then involved on their forums. Although I had no idea what I was talking about. Their program gave me problems, blue screen of death over and over. I vowed never to use Mcafee again. Although I did.
The computer was 400 mhz, 64 mb ram, and an onboard graphics card believe it or not that computer tower was $1500 in the year of 1998 or 1999. It was a crappy computer, but the only computer I had at the time. You should of heard me ranting at the time about Mcafee, but I got over it.
Norton on the other hand. Symantec I used them too. Norton Antivirus 2000 the first antivirus I ever scanned with. I bought Norton Utilities 2001 (my dad did for me) and I loved it. The only problem is when I tried to get a redownload it took 3 months because our e-mail address changed and they had the old one, but they gave me the upgraded 2002 version for free.
Right now I use Norton Security Suite (works great) and System Mechanic. I been thinking about trying Norton Utilitues, but I also think it would be a waste of time because Norton Security Suite does most of that and I have System Mechanic.

You did not specifcy which link you need.
If you are referring to the link for the free game, "Rikki & Mikki", you have to download the free Alawar game box and install it on your pc. Then, when you open the gamebox, there is a heading titled, 'FREE GAME". It is under this heading that the free game of the month is displayed and you can download it from there.

Alawar has switched it's game of the month. They actually did it in the middle of the month! Maybe they feel sorry for the US residents who waited to the last minute to file their income taxes! :)
This month's game is Delivery King. It's a time management game so I think I'll skip this one.

Dragonlair, I just opened my A Gamebox last night, to see what this month's game is, and it was the Rikki and Mikki one. I didn't download it, though. I read your comment, opened the Gamebox back up, just now, and checked; it's still Rikki and Mikki: To The Rescue. I don't know why it's showing different on your gamebox, but I figured I wouldn't take any chances, myself, so I went ahead and got it this time. I didn't want to chance losing it to a TM game, which I don't care for. Thanks for the heads-up, though, just in case it changes everywhere...:)
Mine also showed Rikki and Mikki yesterday. I got it when it first showed up mid March. I don't know why your copy doesn't show Delivery King. Maybe it's because I run Gamebox in Admin mode. I found that is what causes it to now recognize some games as full but thinks they are trials. Since I started doing it this way, they all show correctly.
I just checked again and it is clearly Delivery King.
Usually, it doesn't show until about the 17th of the month. That's why my remark about true mid-month.

Alawar has changed it's game - just when I expected it to (first business day when the middle of the month is on the weekend). The new game is "Mahjongg Artifacts". If you missed it, it's a great game!

lol Suki, I keep forgetting about Alawars free games. Thanks for bringing this back to the front page. i hope all is well with you? Have you checked out the adventure games I posted last week for this week - (Week 95). They may be 15 years old, but they are still pretty good. :)
It could be summer vacation time thats caused the hiccup in posting a new game. i'm sure they will address it soon. I still think Alawar is one of the better gaming sites even though they are destroying oe of their best games by repeated sequels (Farm Frenzy), much like they did with hyperballoid and the 10 plus expansion packs.
Thankfully all of those have been combined into one game and they even sell the game at half price. As I mentioned elsewhere I paid over $140 for that particular game as I bought all but the last few expansions. It's still a beautiful looking game with amazing level sets. It's just unfortunate that apart from a music pack towards the end of it's developmental life there were no updates to add new power ups and i always though the ball speed, even on fast was too slow. o slow that it was almost impossible to lose any balls. :) In fact I need to ask our resident game tweaker - GMMan - if he can find out how to tweak the game to speed the ball up in game play. :)
I did send them an email about the lack of change of the free game and I'm waiting for a response. It STILL says free game each month so I'm hopeful for a change (even if it's not one I want).

You have to have the Gamebox installed, it's not on the site. There's a tab on the gamebox for "Free Game".

When you open up game box click on the start tab. You'll then see three tabs, Hits, Top Ten and Free games. The free game is still Mahjong Artefacts.
If you want to be able to reinstal the free game you can go to the registry and look in the SOFTWARE Hive. There you'll find an entry for Alawar. Either export the whole Alawar hive or search for individual games. You need too make sure you have the Registry key that has the long alphanumeric code. Sometimes Alawars games are numbered rather than given the official name. Mahjong Aretfacts number is 2423. Look in both the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE for keys. To export the registry key to an executable registry file you just need to right click on the entry on the left of the registry editor and select export. You can have it saved wherever you prefer.
You can then use the registry key you have created to register the demo.
Hmmm, not sure whether I should be posting such information. I'm tired so aren't thinking very well. If you think the above shouldn't be posted please tell me. I reckon the month deal that Alawar have is similar to the game giveaway deal in that once the months up you've lost your chance, so if you like the game but have lost it to an install you should really buy it. I'll leave it up to each persons concience. But will delete the above info if a few are unhappy with it.
WR, When I had the fiasco last fall where I lost a lot of games due to following Microsoft's advice, I contacted Alawar on the games I had received through the free game of the month and they did send me the registration keys for those games. That implies what you are suggesting is fine. You have "paid" for the game by using their games manager (even if only to download a freebie).
I got a reply from Alawar to my email about the missing free game.
This is the entire response:
The next free game will be available next month due to technical reasons, sorry for the inconvenience.
It says next month but doesn't specify when! Normally it's about the middle of the month but does this mean it will be the first of the month or shift to the last????? All it says is SOMETIME in July, the free game will change from Mahjongg Artifacts.

Thanks for reminding me Stevie. At last a game that I've not already purchased. I think there has only been one other game given away via the gamebox that I hadn't already bought.
