My computer says I downloaded it on 1/17/2009....
Will keep watching for the next free one, although I don't think they have a set schedule!

Am I the only one disappointed with the games they have been giving away?
I like the Snowy games, but yes they could give out something that is a little newer!!!
Suki
Probably wont though. :(
Still, I've bought just about all the games I would want from Alawar. I think they need to expand out into the indie sector as I think their choice of games is a little stale. They do have some excellent ones, but in my opinion not enough. REflexive and Big Fish Games and perhaps Gamehouse seem to be the big guns around town these days, but for some reason I still like Alawar. (Maybe it's because you don't have to use the games manager or in the case of Reflexive have to apply for new unlock codes whenever you want to reinstall the games to another computer. The majority of my games came from Reflexive but I regret buying them now as it's a pain having to Email them for every game I've purchased (which number in the hundreds - most purchased for theraputic purposes). I now try to buy directly from the developer wherever possible.

You've hit it right on, Stephen... computer games are definitely therapeutic. Which means that everyone's game purchases should be covered completely by insurance! Time to add up alllll those past medical deductions. *~]:-D
lol, let me know if it works midori!
Suki
lol
Whabbit
Have you played this one?

They could add this one to the free games, lol! I think you can create you own layouts with this one...

Today's new Alawar free game is Alien Outbreak 2: Invasion (I'm in the US). It's a mouse controlled shooter game. I'm not particularly fond of shooter games but I like this one. I played to wave 3. Here is what the gamebox says after you down load it:
Perhaps you're a grown-up who can recall the glory days of the arcades, when a quarter and a quick wrist were all you needed to save Earth from an alien attack. Or maybe you're a youngster who revels in the heroics of those who came before you. Either way, Alien Outbreak2: Invasion takes you back to a classic time in gaming, when space invaders marched toward the bottom of the screen in malevolent rows, raining destruction from above as you returned a much devastation as your fingers could handle. Unlike the games of old, however, you have a powerful new arsenal at your disposal. To give you the edge in battle against 32 enemies and 8 super-bosses, were giving you 10 primary weapons, 3 super-weapons, 5 bonuses and the ability to upgrade your ship. Don't get cocky, though; each of the 80 stages is tougher than the last. Do you have what it takes to save Earth once again? Lock and load Alien Outbreak 2 to find out.
My kids will love it too. Hope you all enjoy.
Sadie
I'm sure glad Whabbit wasn't right about it being "Crusaders of Space" again!
This must have come up while I was taking a nap, lol...because it wasn't up at 6:00 a.m. my time which is CST...
They are pretty close on this one, as I downloaded "Treasure Mole" on January 17th!
I just came to post it, but you beat me to the punch, lol!
Take Care All, Suki
It's weird because I definitely redownloaded Crusaders of Space yesterday (though I also bought a copy from Reflexive when it was first released).
I've just checked and it's has changed yet again.... now to what you said....Alien Outbreak 2: Invasion. Very very strange????
This is one I don't have. I had so many of this type I never bothered buying it. Now I don't need to, lol. If you like the game you'll also like Optimus Apparatus, the free game I posted for today, though I think Optimus is actually better because it requires more skill due to the gravity aspect of the game.

Thankfully there is a way to keep it for a later date if you want to transfer it to another computer, but I'm not allowed to say. ;)

I'm confused. (how familiar...) I just downloaded the Alien game from GameBox but can't find the game anywhere to make a shortcut. Do you have to play the free games from within the GameBox itself? ?:-|
Yes, Is the answer...when you go through the GameBox, that is where they put it! It is not listed in the Alawar folder, nor in the GameBox folder within the Alawar folder...
I already have a sore wrist from clicking, but I do enjoy shooting at things, lmao...had to give it a rest, I think I'm heading for my forth mission...
Suki
Once you've downloaded the game via Alawars gamebox, you should then download the windows installer from Alawar and install it. You'll then get a shortcut. You'll also be able to play the game without having to use the Gamebox. Though it's not necessary to download the file if you're not bothered about using the Gamebox.
Download Alien Outbreak 2: Invasion via this link
I only discovered that recently when I deleted a game from Gamebox so that I could work out which registry entry was linked to the game. I tend to format my computers a couple of times a year and would otherwise lose the gamebox games. (I only do that for games that I wouldn't normally buy. If it's good enough I'll usually purchase it).
Thanks Whabbit, I wondered why it wasn't showing up anywhere!
Suki
Yes, many thanks, Wrabbit. I tend to forget I've even downloaded games unless I see a shortcut somewhere. Bad memory? or many too many games. Er, the latter.
?:)~{~~~< (a mermaid swimming in games)
White I am confused I never bought a game off Reflexive or any other casual gaming site beside Realarcade. Once though I received a free game off them Ricochet Extreme for I think it was their 10 anniversary and that game still works no problem. I used the one unlock code to the max and when I tried to install that game on this computer when I first got it basically told me that and said it would send a new code to such and such e-mail address and it did. No problems at all. Now they do it differently or do they do it the same way and you just don't like the fact that you have to a new unlock code?
I have only purchased 1 game from the old Reflexive and 1 new one when they switched the price...
Does the new code work?
I know that when Fish was with Trymedia, they used to tell you that you could only have 5 renewals, since they are on their own, they did away with that...
Or are you asking how many times you can use the new code?
Suki
I was talking about this sorry "in the case of Reflexive have to apply for new unlock codes whenever you want to reinstall the games to another computer". I use realarcade and as far as I know you can redownload and unlock how many times you want/need on up to 3 computers.
Yes Michelle. It's just a tiny annoyance, but it does gripe me. I really don't see why I should have to email them every time I want to reinstall the game. As far as I'm concerned; 'you pays your money' and you should then get a fully functioning full version game with no strings attached. Though I realize why they do this - i.e to stop bootlegging.
I understand why it would be a little annoyance, but I guess any online service like that could be an annoyance. Even signing into my account on real sometimes is an annoyance. I get that your session is expired a lot and I can't wait till they fix it. If they fix it, but I eventually get into my account after a couple of sign ons so I am not going to make a big deal about it. It does get to be an annoyance though.
I have the Sims 2 and all expansion packs too and don't like the fact they have a code that you have to put in to install it on your computer. I also have 2 Sims 2 stuff packs. I haven't played that game in a few months and haven't installed it since I took the computer back to factory settings. Maybe one day I will, but it will take a long time. That is the one thing I like about small casual games. You don't have to wait that long for it to load up and play. Sometimes it seemed like forever for the game to load, especially on my old computer because of all the custom content I downloaded for it.
Hey Suki,
We don't get the little things like our kids do. My wrist was killing me too & I had to give it a rest. So along comes my 9 year old & I showed him how he could do it with 2 hands when his wrist/finger got tired and he said (as he showed me) "Mom, just hold the button down, you don't have to keep clicking it." Well lmao. I would have never even thought of just holding the button down continuously. See, I really don't get the little things, but I do get the hard stuff - LOL.
Wrabbit, I will certainly check out Optimus Aparatus. If anything I'm sure my boys will love it.
Hope you're feeling well.
Sadie
Hey All,
I just got the latest free game thru the Alawar gamebox. It's called Crystalix. I just played it & it's a twist on tetris with a story line & nice graphics. Here is what the gamebox says:
Why is Crystalix one of our most popular logic games? Perhaps it's the addictive gameplay, which challenges you to cleanse a devastated land of the remains of a shattered comet. To clear away the cosmic debris, you must place different shapes that scroll along the bottom of the screen over stacks of matching gems. Special powerups are on hand to aid in this task. one helpful bonus is the wand, which allows you to remove troublesome pieces of the comet without matching them with an available shape.
Or perhaps the beautiful moonlit forests and striking winter wonderlands are the reason so many casual gamers have fallen in love with Crystalix. While you're clearing away gems, you'll see lightning bugs dance among lush foliage and fish dart through crystalline waters. Whatever the reason, we're sure you'll enjoy Crystalix, so download it today and begin the journey of logic and reason that has enchanted so many others before you.
Enjoy,
Sadie
Hey All,
Since someone had mentioned a while back about about this, just thought I'd mention it.
I found another way to get the game installed after you download it thru the gamebox. At the top of the gamebox on the right side is the word "options". When you click on it, it shows you where it stores your downloads. In my case it's C;\My Games\Alawar\Downloads. So I went there & clicked on Crystallix & it installed it on my computer & put a shortcut on my desktop.
Have fun,
Sadie
Thanks, sadie... I used to have that one from somewhere (hm, maybe I still do...) and I do like it. It IS a pretty game. Off to check my folders... and thx for the download tip.
They also have one "on sale," but I'll post it as a separate thread.
You're very welcome Midori. Hope you're doing well
Sadie
The latest free game is:
Pyramid Runner

Hope you all had a Happy Easter!
Suki
Thanks Suki, they seem to be changing thm more regularily now. :)

Stephen
Hi, Suki! Hope you had happy holidays also. Strange, but when I click on the FREE tab in Alawar's Game Box, it says Crystlix (sp?), and your link leads to the "pay for" version. Wonder if my Game Box is stuck.
midori
I just linked the page for information, and if you wanted a desktop shortcut after you installed from the box...
Give it a day, that happened to me before, lol
Hey, Whabbit...yes they seem to be going with the 17th, knock on wood, rofl
