Ah! So you were one of my competitors selling those Beanies!! Made a lot when the Teenie's came out, got them wholesale from someone in Atlanta, he'd ship them to me, I'd sell them on eBay for him, and sent him a tad over his cost. It was good while it lasted, but I'm afraid I got caught up in the frenzy.. like who needs a dozen Princesses?? Must admit I am guilty of getting several that were in the high dollar range, like the foreign ones. My favorite (still) is Buckingham. And I also got all the Buddies from the first day Twigs came out. Still have that one and the beanie and the teenie. And Garcia, etc., etc. Must admit I do have the higher priced ones in a curio cabinet in the house. I stopped the day my grandson (age 3 back then..he's 8 now) wanted a teddy bear (from my curio cabinet). Both my daughter and I said NO you can't touch those, they're grandma's! That's when it struck me! My own grandson couldn't touch a stupid stuffed teddy bear because it was grandma's? Never bought another from that day on.

Hubby said he could have had a Lamborghini (spelling?) for what I spent on those!

I still remember one weekend we went to the flea market just outside Knoxville, Tennessee, selling nothing but Teenies and Beanies. In two days we did $4,600, and none of them were sold for more than $20. We decided to take a breather for a couple of weeks. We went back to Asheville, packed our bags and took off driving to San Diego. We left the Teenies in the trunk. I thought maybe we could make a little more money when we got there.
It turned out Twigs was impossible to get in San Diego, and our first hour at the Kobey Swap Meet we sold all 60 that we had for $12 each. Added to our Knoxville take, we had quite an enjoyable time in San Diego!

Not collecting but I have a friend with several of those tubs full as well. She also thought they'd be valuable one day. Yes, I was into collecting bears, but that was "BB", Before Buckley. I can't leave them where he can reach them...... well.......not most of them. There are I few I still have out that he never seems to bother, the rest are packed away. Now we're planning to move so I'll be getting rid of most of them. I started collecting Cherished Teddies thinking they'd be valuable one day, after all that's what Enesco said would happen....yeh right! You can but them on Ebay for a buck or 2. In fact I saw a post for the "Most sought after, rarest Cherished Teddies figurine - Daisy"....price.....$1.95. What does that tell you? Me---> SUCKER!

Creamy.....wouldn't it be cheaper to rent a u-haul and go get your stuff from storage rather than pay storage rental fees? (Assuming, of course, you're paying for storage

Buckleysmom.....U-haul from NC to Az, including gas, would cost me $3-4,000. That doesn't include the trip to get to NC. I'll just keep paying the $80/mth for now.

@copmom the transfer lee mentioned if I understand him means he rents his home from the local council therefore if he wishes to move he has to register on a transfer list.This means that someone else on the list in another town or county can do what is called a mutual exchange.

knighthawk: thanks for the explanation about transfers, now it makes sense. So, it's not like you really get to pick and choose what type of house you want to get into, just take what becomes available.
Jerry: let me add my welcome to your 'coming out of the woodwork'! *-) Noticed you've been a member almost a year.
pretzel: At the rate gas is going up, it will probably cost more the longer you wait. Are you planning to move back to NC in the future? If not, what are you keeping all that stuff for that's in storage? Another thought, maybe you can advertise in NC to see if anyone's planning to travel to AZ and make arrangements to let them drive your stuff cross country for you and that way their trip is paid for? Save you having to go there.

Copmom.....One reason I keep the stuff that's in storage is because it includes three pinball machines. METEOR, TORCH, and the ever value-increasing STAR TREK from 1979 (not to mention hundred of DVD movies and TV seasons, lots of jewelry-making supplies, lots of valuable collectibles, etc). I used to repair pinballs for a living, and those three are in fantastic shape now.

I have considered the ad to find someone to bring the stuff. The problem is that there is no guarantee the stuff will arrive, if you know what I mean. And no guarantee they will know how to pack things in a U-haul in such a manner that the pinballs arrive undamaged.

I'll just have to wait until a solution presents itself.

Pretzel, you have a good point there. When we originally moved here in '90, we had a mint 76 Ford LTD in perfect shape and very low miles. Didn't want to put miles on it, so had it transported by one of those big auto carriers. Long story short, they never delivered it to us, it was dumped in front of a truck stop/restaurant on I-40, everything we had packed in it was gone, transmission shot, windows busted! Someone called us from the truck stop by going in the glovebox to get the registration, got our phone # in Calif. which was forwarded to here, said they broke no laws getting the papers since it was all busted open anyhow. Couldn't do a dang thing about it, filed with police, the motor transportation board, etc. The main place was out of Florida and no one had jurisdiction to do a dang thing about it!

Hi, my name is Rob and I am from Sydney, Australia (spoken as if I am at a Recovering Addicts meeting). I am born and bred in Sydney and my parents are originally from Greece so I have that fiery Mediterranean Euro background on top of being an Aussie. The best of both worlds.

PS Dan Pinball Machines are such collector's items here and the going rate is about $10,000.

Nice one, we are not that gullible here. Don't forget our background as a penal colony, (convicts, criminals, petty thieves), some would say we haven't progressed past that. It would be hard to con an Aussie (much like an Amercian).

Hi if anybody in america thinks the price of fuel is steep try the UK were the price per gallon is now over £5 which if the exchange rate is two to one makes it approx $10.

I think I'll get me a motor scooter or perhaps a bicycle! Then again, going 5 miles uphill doesn't sound like fun hauling groceries!

I read in the paper this morning that the reason we feel it so bad is because we don't have as much tax on it (which I dispute). Since we are paying less and its gone up $1.50+ per gallon over just one years time ($2.28 last year) we feel a much greater increase (if it goes it .60 to .70 cents it will have doubled in a year. No government can justify that much of an increase other than just pure greed.

The people using diesel fuel are already up to $4.60 per gallon. At the post office they said our rural mail carriers are losing money every day they deliver.

Hi, My name is Paul and I was born in the City of St-Pierre on St-Pierre et Miquelon Archipelago.

After moving to Montreal, QC, Canada at age 9 and staying there (and around)for 41 years until my retirement one year ago, I am now in Mirabel, QC.

I also stayed 8 months last year in La Malbaie, QC just to get away from it all.

@ robm : I am now a friendly Canadian but in my heart, I'm still that little friendly French Citizen kid ! I was born on St-Pierre island ( A DOM or Departement Outre-Mer of France ) situated near Newfoundland.

@ copmom : I would need 2 or 3 clones to finish everything each day LOL :)

Welcome Quantum, nice to meet you. We went to Niagara Falls and Canada on our honeymoon and I loved Canada. It seemed to clean and relaxed compared to the US. Except for the guys at the Chinese place where we had dinner one noght. I asked for sugar for my tea and somebody in the kitchen had a major fit, he kept coming to the window to check on us. Wonder what he'd have done if I asked for milk?

Copmom.....yeh, I don't see why there seems to be so much less time now that I'm not working......oh wait.....maybe it has something to do with the GOTD forums....ya think???? lol
