And again no game giveaway of the day :/
Posted 16 years ago # -
I received a game today, but it is no longer available as it was dated 12th March! I have not been able to download any games in over a week as they have expired by the time I get them.Is anyone else have this sort of problem?...oh...Hi by the way....I'm roses.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Maybe GOTD is having server problems?? Maybe the staff COULD post something to let us know what's been happening?
At least the 'regulars' have been giving links to other freebies to satisfy us when things are down! I'm spending so much time following links, I haven't even been playing any games! LOL

Hi roses, you say you received a game today. As there isn't any game today, do you really mean you received an email for a game? I noticed in another thread, Email Updates, that people have been getting their emails late. I don't subscribe to GOTD email. I just make it a point to come here everyday and check the giveaways. As a matter of fact I'm using a program that I downloaded from here awhile ago called XStarter to automatically open the GOTD homepage at 5 AM everyday. I hope this helps.

Hi Roses4, welcome to the forums :)
Nice one HOSS, I’ve never seen a cup using characters before :)
I think the game giveaway team deserve a rest as apart from a few other days they have been at it since early September without a break. It can't be easy constantly trying to get new or repeated games for us. (They have to pay for repeats) I have no knowledge of how the administrators get their games though apart from having to pay a multiple license for each game they give away.
For me, today’s and the other days lack of a game was actually a welcome change from staying up to write a review all night. Instead I got to play my latest acquisition ‘Turning Point: Fall of liberty’, which though not as good as such games as CoD4 and Crysis; which is reflected in it’s day of release price of a third off the retail price, is nevertheless quite a spectacular game to play; with the Luftwaffe dropping bombs around you while you try to get to ground level from your perch atop a skyscraper that's being built in 1950's New York. Anyone who likes first person shooters I would recommend trying a demo if you can find one.

Maybe Sunday should be a day off anyway as there are so many games that have been given away to explore. (as well as checking out the past few days applications) I'm still playing a lot of the games given away this year alone; i.e. DNA, eXtinction, Mini Golf Championship (that prompted me to buy Tiger Woods 2007 which was in the bargain bin of my favorite shop and cost the same price as a full priced arcade game - http://www.game.co.uk/PC/Sport/Golf/~r329110/Tiger-Woods-PGA-Tour-07/ - and would cost only $15 if you bought another of a similar price, though there is shipping to the US), Robbox, Ball 7, Infinite Jigsaw puzzle (I’ve added over a hundred new images to that game and we as a family play it frequently), Ingenious, Magic Farm, Egyptian Ball, Mad Magic, Numericon, Atlantis Quest, Machine Hell, Jewel Craft, Immortal Defense, I love puppies and kittens (Emily loves these), Space Interceptor and Destiny Architect to name just a few of the decent games given away and that's in between everything else. One of the first games I ever got from the giveaway project, TVI Arkanoid (which was given away before the game giveaway opened it's doors back on the 8th or 9th Dec 2006) has still to be finished lol.
Though I suppose (said reluctantly as I feel we are getting a fantastic service anyway) it would be nice to get some notice as to whether a game isn't going to be given away on a specific day as I'm sure there are some who stay up just for the surprise. :) Though I was told by one of the Administrators when I asked about getting a days notice regarding the next game giveaway that they themselves often didn't know what was going to be posted till an hour pr less before the change over. Something has probably happened today that's stopped them getting a particular game – Cest la Vie, there will be many other days to look forwards to :).
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the giveaway team for all they have done over the past year and a bit. I've been introduced to so much that I never knew I needed (lol), and have been able to actually test the software for extended periods before I've bought updated versions. I've made loads of mistakes with software in the past after tying one of those 15 day trials that really doesn't give you sufficient time to assess whether it's the right software for you, then bought the software because I though I needed it, for example RAM and registry optimizers. Apart from a few software packages such as back up and drive image software I've been able to settle with some brilliant software (for example anvir security suite)
Have a restful Sunday folks and a productive new week. :)
Warm regards Stephen

Thank you Stephen for your Sunday words and your everyday work for this community.
Have a nice family Sunday

Whaterabbit....you bring up some very good points and I agree, the GOTD Team deserves to have a day off and Sunday is a good day to take it. Thay do a fantastic job, I've never had so many games to choose from as I do now......and all at no cost to me. You do a great job also and need/deserve a break as well. Thanks for your informaive posts, they've been such a big help. Besides, Easter's only a week away......I'm sure you have "other" far more importanat things to do ;)
Welcome Roses4, nice to meet you!

About 5 minutes ago I got a GGOTD email with Friday's game, Rubicon. Me thinks something has gone haywire at GOTD....
Posted 16 years ago # -
Hey Buckleysmom! There is definitely something screwy. I hadnn't gotten any from either side since March 12 and then yesterday I had 3 from GOTD, one this morning for todays and 15 minutes ago I got the GOTD for the 13th! Still nothing from GGOTD! This is very strange. I come and check the site if I don't get any but the email saves me time.

Thanks for the link MrFishy :)
Also if you haven't seen Creamy Pretzels post today. then check it out. He/she has posted an excellent and very colorful game that for me at least filled the gap:

thank you Creamy Pretzel.
Stephen
p.s.
This is what's so brilliant about the Giveaway project and the community that has sprung up around it. Even when there isn't a game offered, there's always someone posting something new and fresh to try. Thank you all for making this my number one place to visit these days; I feel I've come to know quite a few of you. I love browsing the forums, though I don't contribute much now since beng given the heads up on the following days games (usually) as once I get that I have my review head on, lol.I've not got notification as to what the next game will be yet, so it's looking a little ominous with respect to a game in the morning (UK time the change over is 8am); though as I've said previously, sometimes the admins don't know themselves until just before it's posted. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the latter is the correct one :)

See, actually needed to use that forum button again, so I'm back and saw all the nice stuff everyone's said... hi, hi and hi. And thank's so much forthe big welcomes :)
To answer the "where in the world" question, I'll give everyone a little break since I've been told by many in other countries they've never heard of my state. I'm from the US, that little place up in the top right corner of the country, Maine.... hence Maine-iac... ya, not too original, sorry, that's why I PLAY the games, not create them.
Off to do something productive today, HAG1 :)Posted 16 years ago # -
here is another free site for on-line games.... quite a few to choose from

Hello Marcie! Looks like a fun and funny game site. Quite different. I'll definitely be checking it out later. Thanks a million!
Just look at this description for a game called "Case of the Crabs":
Something stinks and it smells like crab, only there's something funny about these crustaceans. You play as Detective Nick Bounty, who despite his ability to solve the most tangled cases, has yet to work for a paying client. This time it's up to you to discover who knocked off a local seafood salesman and get to the bottom of a diabolical counterfeiting operation!
--Classic Point & Click interface.
--Stylish Black & White "film noir" graphics.
--Fully vocalized by talented actors.
--Fully compatible with PC, Mac, or Linux!
--No download neccessary! Just click and play! That's too funny!! LOL
Do you have any favorite games from the site?

Happy St. Patrick's Day All! The "6 Colours" game that Creamy Pretzel gave us the link for is a very cool little game. It's an interesting twist on Othello. Thanks.
The email gods are still wreaking havoc. This morning, I finally received the notification for Rubicon (at 2:24AM) and Age of Japan (at5:51AM). Hope this gets sorted out SOON!

Hi Folks!
Sooo ... I don't know why they haven't put anything on the main site, but ...
See Slava's post with the sad news on the GOTD Blog. Games will only be offered at weekends for the foreseeable future, so it's basically becoming GGOTW, for now at least.
Obviously it's a shame but - as I posted in the blog comments - at least they're not shutting it down completely. There seem to be very valid, sensible reasons, plus she implies that good things are being planned for the future.
Personally I'd rather have the chance of trying a couple of malware free games every weekend than either none at all, or less well checked ones. I might actually get a few things done during the week as well! :o)
All the best, oh, and a happy St Paddy's Day too!

Perhaps this is a new approach GGAOTD Team is trying for the whiners and ingrates?
Don't offer any game at all, thus cutting off their source for griping and complaining. Seems to be working so far, not a single complaint on the Game Page about today's offering.
8)
(In case someone missed it this is sarcasm) However you do have to admit it is working perfectly!
Thanks for all the past games, I'll look forward to the new ones when things get sorted out.

This will give us a chance to catch up on all the games we have gotten as well as all the links to other game sites... and I might even find some spare time now to actually get the house clean!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Thanks GOTD staff for finally giving us a definitive answer. The games are appreciated and we can hang with the changes on the site. Looking forward to seeing what's on the horizon. :-)

Hi, I came to this forum to say that I have a site that has daily freeware games on it - http://cybamart.com/games
But whilst I'm here, Stephen aka White Rabbit (or vice versa?!) I lost your email address whilst transferring my emails to Thunderbird and had it accidentally set to delete on transfer; the dial-up connection I was using broke half way through and I lost all emails even from years ago. I tried to contact you on the GGOTD comment board but each time it was seemingly moderated out, I never thought of the forum until I registered yesterday and saw you on here - please would you contact me if you still have my email address as I was unable to reply to your last email because of the Thunderbird disaster and me not being organised enough to have a contacts list :-(
