Hi Funkymom, sorry I never answered your question regarding where I admin (from page 2 of this thread) As you said we must have been posting at the same time becaue I didn't see it till now. That's three months ago, lol.
The site I admin for is called The Mercenaries and you can see it by following the link below:
http://bf2mercenaries.freephpnuke.org/
It's dedicated to games such as Battlefield 2, where you can download around 70 custom made maps for the game. (there's several hundred in total) The owner of the site modded the game and created a very popular mod. Battlefield 2 is now three years old and many community members have moved on to the next generation of shooters, though BF2 still has a popular following because of the sandbox nature of the game. It's well worth checking out. you can download a demo of the game from:
http://files.filefront.com/The+Battlefield+2+Demo/;3876613;/fileinfo.html
It's 546Mb in size.
There's some custom made files that add content to the demo, so if anyone does download the demo and would like some extra content just ask here and I'll search out the files for you. It's unusual to get add-on stuff for a demo, but with the battlefield engine and the editor it was possible. (one file increased the size of the map to it's full size) He's now moved on to Crysis and is at this time working on a Mercemaries mod for Crysis as well as creating new missions for the game.
I ended up admining for him because I initial beta tested his maps. As I was one of the predominant visitors top the site he initially asked me to moderate, which eventually changed to admin. If you play any of those games it's well worth a visit to download the maps and missions. Many of the BF2 maps are some of the best custom made maps around, though he's still learning with the Crysis editor. The last two missions 'The Gorge' and 'Jungle Warfare' are as good as the best custom made missions available.
He intends to start creating Call of Duty 4 maps sometime soon as well.
If you download the demo which includes the smallest size of one map from the original 9 (I think there's 9 - I've long since had hundreds in my levels folder, so can't exactly remember the number) and decide the game is worth having, you can pick up the complete BF2 collection that includes the original game, an expansion pack called Special Forces and two booster packs called Euroforce and Armoured Fury. all three expansion packs add new weapons, uniform skins, new vehicles and add new maps to the game. There's also a patch (v1.41) that adds three new maps. Then there's over 200Gb of modded files that add so much more. For example there are several mods apart from the Mercenaries mod (all free) that I'd recommend called Point of Existence 2 (WWII), Eve of Destruction (IndoChina War), Marines, Allied Intent and Allied Intent-X and Nations at War, as well as several other that I'll post details of in a new thread if anyone shows interest.
p.s. sorry for hijacking this thread. I just wanted to answer the query that Funkymom made, and as usual I went off on one. Still. For a budget game, BF2 is well worth having if you're into any sort of shooting game. Despite being 3 years old, which in gaming terms is ancient, BF2 is still a brilliant game that I personally still play frequently in preference to recently released games such as Assassins Creed, Call of Duty 4, Crysis, World at Wor, Empire Earth III, Men of Honor Airborne, all of the Tom Clancy games (the warfighter and Vegas series)as well as many other games that have been released since BF2 was originally released back in June 2005. Which says a lot for that game. what helps is all the extra custom content. Most other games don't come with an editor, or if they do, it's not easy to create custom content.
p.s.
Back to the thread.
The two boxing babies was really funny, and S.O.Y. had me laughing as well. thanks for sharing those. :)
