Goody, I hope your eyes will be alright. That's one of my worst fears...not being able to see. Please, take care of yours so that you can continue to fill ours with those fabulous pictures.
______________________________________________________________________Speaking of fabulous pictures, Graylox, your fascinating and fantastic brain has devised a game so mind-boggling that we commoners cannot tell the difference between plants and animals! Is this some kind of torture technique? Or do you just enjoy seeing us suffer? I, for one, NEED to see your PICTURES! This is killing me! What do you want? I have the millions right here! Take it! Just show me the pictures!

no worries on permanent damage to my sight, it's happened before, sort of like a hayfever attack on steroids without the sniffles. one of my strange chem reactions. I'd be sunk if I didn't have the nosquint plugin.
graylox, did I actually get them right that time?
I think I need a rephrase on what the goal is on that last panel of pix.

for all to relax:

btw, here's the 2 widgets I made the 1st for the M517- a mounting socket offset plate so the camera mounts using metal threads and rotates around a close approximation of the optical panorama point for the lens assembly, and a 90 degree add-on bracket so I can get the same rotation point with the camera on it's side for a third more vertical field of view.
I still need to add an indexing block on the bracket to simplify putting it on straight, but for now it should do well enough.
The offset plate is a reasonably permanent attachment. I don't like repeated use of plastic threads.
I also made a string-and-bolt stabilizer, and it seems to work ok.

Goody, congratulations! I didn't think that anyone would get this puzzle!
I'm glad your peepers will be alright. But in the future, you might consider wearing safety goggles when working with caustic liquids. Reduce the odds.
Nice work on your "gadgets"!
____________________________Dear Graylox, I'm overwhelmed with your change of heart! You are and will always be "Lady Gray" to me! I'm very sorry that your system was adversely affected by the thought of processing all that money. I suppose that, like me, you are destined to enjoy life's simpler and cheaper pleasures.
Your pictures are as wonderful as I expected. I do have my favorites from all of them. Also, how did you get a photo of my mother and me from so long ago? Are we related?
Did I tell you that we are going to farmers. Yes, soon we will be sharing the land with new peeps (chickens an ducks). That book may become a great asset. Thank you.
BTW, the video would not load. I'll try again later.

no liquid- just lack of ventilation under this mobile home. I have a breather tube, but sealed goggles fog up too fast to be useful. ah well. hopefully I won't have to do that again for a while- last time was 12 years ago.
thanks about the attachments. wish I had a drill press, that was all done using a grinder and hand drill (rechargeable makita), plus a file.

Goody that looks really professional! Great work.
Maizey good luck with your farm. Don't know if the book will help you; I select them mostly only for their title, can't read them all.
The thing with the not loading video, seems to be a you-tube error, Roberts song will not load too.Puhhh, I'm really glad, that this what-is-it came to an end, could not find any new hints; but it was rather funny, as in the beginning I did not imagine, that this would be a real puzzle and I did not prepare any hints at all.
The next one is a one-picture-what-is-it. But it is not ready yet.

FWI Youtube seems to be up and down today.....keep checking back.
Posted 16 years ago # -
I downloaded that clip, should anyone want it- watching video on a usb 1.1 network connection doesn't work well.
I took the widgets out for real-world testing, found some spots that need tweaked, but the principal looks solid.
here's how the x. Martelii wood spurge looks today.

Y'all wanna try G What is it 036?
Posted 16 years ago # -
snake? i couldn't tell you what kind, at least not without research and i'm too tired.

no, not a snake- I almost got a snapshot of a yellow racer a couple days ago, but that'll have to wait for summer.
besides, IIRC the banded snakes are in florida.
I took this picture yesterday, here in town.
not a bookworm. I'm a bookworm, so I ought to know. I have one tab open to this site, 3 tabs with books, and a hardback open.

Is it butterfly wings? Although I've not seen one with colors like that.
graylox, on all those pictures you shared, did you use a zoom lens or macro on your camera to get such great closeups?Posted 16 years ago # -
no, butterfly wings have tiny scales. you'd be able to see them.
I sure hope to get some pictures later in the year, for sure.

G036 - Is it a bee or yellow jacket?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody.....that wood spurge doesn't look anything like I hoped it would.....it is still very interesting though. There was a bit of the red color to the "buds" so I was hoping it would have more color when open. The whole plant though is fascinating....at least to me. Don't think we have anything lik ethat around here....but I could be wrong....wouldn't be the first time :)
G#36.....no clue what that might be. Could you give a bit more to go on?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Alas, maizey figured it out, it's a yellow jacket on a leaf. here's theassociated photo
here's the leafy spurge to show how unusual the wood spurge is, an iris surrounded by mint, and some lilacs.
Posted 16 years ago # -
and as far as having euphorbia in PA, I'm sure you do- but spurges I couldn't guess.
Considering the related species run from poinsettias to ones that look like cacti... how the blazes could you tell?
Posted 16 years ago # -
Goody, the yellow jacket has an interesting pattern. Don't think I've ever been close enough to see it before.
The spurges are wild as ever. I can't remember seeing anything like them until you posted some.
Did you use photoshop or something to alter the iris? It looks almost painted. Neat! And lilacs are one of my favorites. Took pics of some this morning, myself. Thanks!

The only post-processing I do on the large photos are crop, rotate, resize for wallpaper, and save at higher jpeg compression. XNView. That's all.
the wii's I do image enlargement, like the sample for g36.
no color or other distortion. that was right after a rain, but all are exactly as the camera captured them. [grin]
-=-editard-=-
I don't strip (or, at all, by intent-) or alter the exif data), save for the comment and camera orientation, as these are made so *I* can remember that moment. for every pic that's seen anywhere as interesting and pretty, there are hundreds that don't see any eye but mine, and Only 35% make a name, however lame.
