I'm not sure if it's late enough for berries or open cones yet. I get down that way again I'll try to look for identifying characteristics.
I'll also shoot some trees for same, and see if I can find somebody to ask. never thought to look at at any more than 'ooh, pretty'. :)

yeah, i know.

Thanks, for the tulips! The petrified wood is neat. It looks rather large, but you've fooled me before with a piece of coral. I have a couple of pieces of what I think is petrified wood. Maybe I'll post them later to see what you think.

Gray....love the biopix page, great comparisons. There are so many different pines/evergreens/firs....whatever you want to call them, and I'm certainly no tree expert, I just really think Goody's is a fraser....but hey! I could be wrong....certainly wouldn't be the first time. There is another one that looks very similar to a fraser but I can't think of the name offhand. The only reason I happen to even know about the fraser is because my cousin has a tree farm and he told us about them the first year we went to his farm for our Christmas tree. It's been my favorite ever since. The other characteristic of them is that they have a lot of room between branches which makes them nice for hanging ornaments. I know how we can find out for sure if Goody's willing....next time you visit the trees break off a small piece and see if it smells like orange, that's the only way to know for sure. According to my cousin the fraser is the only one that has that distinct orange smell.
As for the poopy diapers....I won't ask you to smell those....gotta draw the line somewhere :))

nooo, I meant I had others. OTOH, since that snow on monday, they aren't going to be around long. I took a walk and got some more (I went by der conifer- no citrus smell, sorry) and got what I could- along with other stuff. be a bit before I get pix massaged, but I will be back...
also I could toss them at your gmail, so as not to clog the forums.

happen to see a good shot
technically, most shots are good, usually good enough for keeping a time rememberable.
but- for me to crop and rename it, takes something more. 204 shots, 34 made the immediate scan from an hour and a half wander.
BTW, I found what might be unripened berries on that bush.
what makes a great shot? sometimes timing is everything and a weed turns into a delicate lesson in geometry.
some things I have no clue, but I like it. I'm sure it's common knowledge.
And I need to get out and about, I've let myself go too long. A walk usually is more stimulating than cranking a stationary bike. More painful, but worth the tradeoff.
