Why me again ? On every page hit me the post cruncher.
Posted 16 years ago # -
graylox it's not you. well, it has been you, but only because you happen to have been the one who makes the first post on a new page. it's been happening every time a new page starts.
does that make sense? i'm very tired, i was woken up at 6am (way too early for me), by my daughter at the foot of my bed about to vomit. she was vomitting all day long. she is finally sleeping peacefully, but i'm an exhausted wreck. i hate seeing my child sick, a feeling i'm sure many of you know.
i'm off to bed and, hopefully, a vomit-free weekend.

Videodrome (1983): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086541/
James Woods, Sonja Smits, Deborah Harry (blondy)-a very psychotic and warped movie, strange is an understatement but well done in a wickedly twisted fashion.

Funky, sorry for your daughter, I hope she is better by now.
That bad feeling will stay for ever and the grandkids will be included.Got up at 6 o'clock in the morning too, but that was for about 53 hours now; but yesterday afternoon I stayed for 2 hours in bed, but couldn't sleep; still going strong and writing e-mails.
Funky, I know why the post cruncher crunches, but must it always be me ? :(
Goody, I like sci-fi but not horror. Think Dorothy fits better today.

Vista [shiver] that ain't horror?
I could suggest dogma ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/ ) but don't know how you'd like the highly irreverent theme and seriously low humor. but if you like that sort of thing it is vastly amusing.

Goody, buying a new puter, you have no choice. Vista Home Premium 32 bit is installed. But I have 2 recovery DVDs 32bit and 64bit.
It isn't online yet. Need a second look perhaps a third before I'll have the home-net working. Tech makes me even more weird as usual.I have seen DOGMA, but don't have it, and won't buy it. When the PC is online, I am at least able to try all those movie links we have got here in the forum.
So now I'm hungry,it smells so good from the kitchen, lunch is ready.Posted 16 years ago # -
dogma is one of my favorite movies.
i'm slightly ashamed to admit that ben affleck makes me cry every time i watch it.i liked videodrome, too.
-------------------
my daughter came into my bed in the middle of the night, threw up once more and has been back to normal, so far, today. it's been 7 hours so i'm hopeful that it's passed.Posted 16 years ago # -
funky, I liked dogma too. It didn't make me cry, though.
Glad you daughter is feeling better. There have been some nasty flu bugs making their rounds this season. Hope it's the end!

funky.. glad your daughter is feeling better! Too bad you had to strip beds and fix them again... the joys of children! At least she was smart enough to throw up in YOUR bed and not hers!
graylox.. I'm pretty sure if you're getting a new system you can insist on them putting WinXP on it instead of Vista. Too many people are allowing Vista to be shoved down their throats! A lot of them are installing XP on their Vista machines. Heard that Wal-Mart can't keep enough XP on their shelves for all the people that want that instead of Vista.Posted 16 years ago # -
thanks all you moms.
my computer is pretty new. it's a dell laptop, i purchased it in september and i had the option of vista or xp. no thought involved......i chose xp. my stepdad had told me that he had spent months trying to erase all traces of vista off his computer after he replaced it with xp. sometimes, i can learn from other's experiences.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Copmom, sadly that's no option here. Accept it or forget it.
Now I have to live with Vista :-( Home Premium. Installed is the 32 bit version. But I have got 2 recovery DVDs 32 bit and 64 bit. Is it possible to install 64bit over the 32 bit version ? Weird - like always.Posted 16 years ago # -
if they're the stuff-in-drive-and-reboot recovery discs, generally they nuke everything off the system and install a copy of as-shipped OS and apps.
so no, it won't install vista 64 bit over 32 bit- it replaces it. and anything else that used to be installed is bits on the wind.
Same thing happens with the 32 bit disc. nuke-the-site-from-orbit and install the factory oem setup. end of story, generally.
anybody knows of a third option I'd like to know. My daughter-in-law does it about every 2 weeks. aarrgh.

I'm gonna give the thread a twist and see if there are some silent movie buffs out there: who is this man *or* what film did he act in, in 1929?
yes, that's a mural on a building in the town it was shot in.
too easy? let's find out. *I* took the picture. Today.
Posted 16 years ago # -
George Arliss.
Posted 16 years ago # -
It's my mistake that threw you off- the movie was filmed in 1926 and released in '27. somehow I transposed the 6 on the mural to a 9.
Sorry to disappoint you, but the 1929 Disraeli was a talkie, and George Arliss had less hair at the time.
Nice try, though. especially considering my messup.
this was a comedy, btw.

graylox,copmom,
Some major companies do include a downgrade cd/dvd when buying a computer with Vista on it.

Buster Keaton?
Movie: The General

yup. filmed just north of here in Cottage Grove
here's the full res shot

Cool mural! I looked at you pic for a minute when I woke in the middle of the night. I knew I recognized the face. I couldn't remember ever seeing Buster with his hair that long in any pics I'd seen before. Found the likeness this morning. And I just watched The General now. Great chase movie!
Posted 16 years ago # -
If you're up to it, how about another silent film star? He made over 300 silent films and only nine talkies.
Posted 16 years ago # -
Heck.. if hubby was awake he'd know all these in a second! He's always telling me who's who on old movies we're watching!
Posted 16 years ago # -
goody & maizey it's really a good idea with those old films and maybe old recorded music too.

Graylox, you think we should start a new thread? Might be fun to incorporate both music and films to mix it up a bit. Personally, I'm not much of a movie buff. I really don't watch much television or rent movies, and the last time I went to a movie theater was in 1998.
By the way, did you happen to watch the first video on your link above. Cute little number called Loving You (and Drinking Beer).
Posted 16 years ago # -
A new thread with realy old OLDIES would be fascinating; though loving the MOVIES and even more the MUSIC I'm, like you, no expert; and unfortunately in my situation I can't maintain a thread in a continuous or reliable manner.
Perhaps we will find somebody else with a LOUD and highly visible request here in the forum ?Posted 16 years ago # -
Loving You (and Drinking Beer) - http://www.archive.org/details/LovingYouandDrinkingBeer
(had to test CoLT Firefox extension, therefore the long link above)Nice little film. It must really be very, very awkward to be a boy. There are such a lot films and songs describing the desperate situation of snubbed lovers. I feel sooooo sorry :-(((
Posted 16 years ago # -
I'm not an expert in any of those either.. so guess that let's me out. Then again, I'm no expert on any of the new stuff out, like rap. I like music/songs where you can understand the words!
Posted 16 years ago # -
Graylox, I used CoLT to make my link too. I took it from the front page from your original link, using the "Copy link text and location as" > "HTML" selection.
copmom, I'm in agreement with you about music.
