right. 2x digital zoom uses the middle half of the X megapixels of individual pixel sensors on the imaging chip, then expands that image to the same # of pixels high and wide as a regular image- less information, same output size.

@ copmom, I don't use the smart card for anything BUT the camera, so wouldn't know how to write anything else to it
Dunno about your reader, but mine (all format usb 2.0) is both read and write.
I put the card in, copy (not cut) the images off it, and pull it out as soon as the copy finishes, since win2k comes along about 10 seconds later and tries to update the 'last accessed' info on the images.
that, erasing images, or doing a move rather than copy can make the card unusable unless you have one of the original olympus readers. Or an approved substitute, as all the new readers on the market will trash your card and don't come with the special format program to make them accessible to the camera again.
I learned this the hard way when I got the Ricoh.

you're welcome- I use technobabble too much, 'interpolate' is really a fancy term for 'guess',and 'adaptive interpolation' is 'guess based on surroundings'- but once a tech, always a tech- I like knowing how the littlest bits work.
"bayer filter' sounds like it's related to aspirin, not color cameras.

graylox - Maybe Magic Lens will work. From the product description: "Magic Lens Max works transparently with the system, follows the mouse cursor and system caret synchronously. You can easily use the mouse wheel and arrow keys to magnify, rotate, or lighten the lens view, or press the hotkeys to resize, show/hide the lens view, or capture the snapshot of it to image files."
I did not download this program. Give it a try and let us know if it works for you.

what do you need to do?
Photoscape 3.0 http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php has some fair capture/edit tools, and FastStone Capture 5.3 (last freeware version) at http://321download.com/LastFreeware/page4.html#FastStone%20Capture is impressive too.

Hint on CM#4: This was taken with the zoom lens on through a window (as usual) because I couldn't get close.
I noticed photobucket allows you to edit/crop/enlarge the images for what it's worth.
And sent an email to HP about the smart card, here's the reply:
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
SmartMedia memory cards have been out of production for a few years and HP products no longer include card slots for this type of card. I apologize for any inconvenience that this causes. The best solution will to be to transfer the photos to your PC prior to printing.
I wonder if ANY of the newer printers DO use smart media cards since they say they're obsolete? Otherwise I guess I will just need to use my card reader, which I've been doing all along anyhow! Kinda liked the idea of just putting the card into the printer and deleting, cropping, choosing directly from there and then printing so guess I can't use it as a free standing (not hooked to the computer) .. but gee whiz! How many bells and whistles do I really need? I think we're all getting spoiled with all the new technology!

copmom, Oh yeah, he guessed the wrong breed though. He said it was a Pileated Woodpecker but it looks more like a downy woodpecker. I can't believe it. He only looked at that picture for 2 seconds! He sleeping now but earlier he kept checking this page to see if he won. :)

goodgotd- no tarantulas! since i've moved to arizona i've had a few run-ins, they totally freak me out! although- one day when i was driving home i had to slow down because there was a tarantula crossing the street! that was pretty hilarious.

when i was a kid my dad wanted to get a pet tarantula, i told i wouldn't come to his house if he did. he got hermit crabs instead, i was able to handle it.
it's weird, because i'm pretty much an animal lover. i like reptiles and rodents. i just cannot handle insects.....especially large fuzzy ones. maybe it's because i'm from new york, but i would much rather face a rat than a tarantula.
