Hi Whabbit
No, Sandlot was bought out by Digital Chocolate.
As you know about my hard drive failure, most of my Realore games were on that drive because they came from GOTD, so I am happy when I can get one back!
As for Sandlot, it's a good thing that most were on my F: drive and those that gave me a problem still would register with my codes because Sandlot never answered back!
Amazon gave me "The Great Tree" and I think it was "Skipbo" on my word that I had bought them from Reflexive.
Which just reminded me to check Alawar, still is Flowery Vale...
Speaking of Alawar, they never have sent me any more coupons for the games I had beta tested and I get nothing in my email! I see nothing of late in the testers area, but I see them putting out new games!
Oh well...

Ah yes. These darned drugs really mess with my memory. :( I back up all of my games, especially freebies from places like Sandlot, Alawar and the giveaway project.

WR,
How do you backup your games? Do you do an image of your drive? I only have a miniscule fraction of the games you have but I don't want to lose them. ThanksPosted 12 years ago # -
rta,
I'm not WR but I can tell you what I do. I zip the install programs of my games and then, when I get enough of them, I burn them to DVDs AND an external hard drive before removing them from my main drive. I actually have 4 copies of each install program that way so the chances of something happening to all 4 (one kept totally offsite) is minimal. I'm currently building my 4th DVD of the set. I have approximately 440 games currently installed but the number of games in the backups is several hundred higher. I have removed some for space reasons. If I had a bigger drive, I would put some back!
If I lose my hard drive, I have to re-install them but that's to be expected.
I keep a copy of all my game codes (like those huge ones from Alawar) in a spreadsheet on a "page" for that purpose separate from the games list and the other products list. That spreadsheet is backed up quarterly onto several copies and retained for further modification. I may lose one or two codes at most this way but not most of them.
My personal opinion is that an image of the drive isn't practical because of registry entries. It's better to re-build the games, even if you do have to start them over again. This way your registry is re-built clean when you re-install. You might decide on a "better" (for you anyway) organization of your products and this would be the time to do it.

Thanks Dragonlair for the very helpful advice. In the old days most of our games were on DVD, or even older days on CD. Now most of the games I purchase are downloaded from Steam or some other site so I guess you could always redowload the game. That obviously is not the best solution because of the time involved. I've been kind of lax because I haven't backed up any Steam games. Probably don't even know where the install files are located. lol

BTW - the reason for zipping the install files is to keep the anti-virus from scanning them all the time until I get them backed up. I have my anti-virus set to ignore zips.
.exe files do NOT zip well. I've had a few where the zip is larger than the original but at least it keeps MSE out of it. :)

They finally got one worth signing up for. However, I can't seem to get a good download link. This one is only downloading at about 25-30 KB/second! For 116 MB, that's a long download. And I'm Broadband!

I was just about to post this. It is a good game but it seems to be a slow download. I also really liked the first one in the series but lost it when I foolishly saved only the shortcut to a flash drive and not the exe file. It's never been offered after that.

It took over 90 minutes to download but I finally got it. Now it's installing and that's not very fast either!
Posted 12 years ago # -
It froze on me and I found it three quarters downloaded abpout three hours later. thankfully Im able to resume broken downloads.
It's 114Mb in size.

I'm downloading it now, And mine says only 30 min. to download the file.

Just downloaded it and it took about 90 mins like Dragonlair. It installed pretty quickly though. Good thing the US Masters is on TV here in the UK - I just started the download and went to watch the golf :)

Well, after half a dozen attempts to download this yesterday I gave up.
Went back to it today (1050 UK time) and got it in less than 10 minutes.
Can only think that Realores servers were getting hammered yesterday.Posted 12 years ago # -
Almost forgot about this...
I have the first one 3 Days: Zoo Mystery. I got it free for beta testing it. I don't get much from them anymore, oh well
Happy Easter
18 minutes for me...
@ Terri, expect a pm from me

So I just got an email today announcing this game as a free download, but when I click on the link and go to the site there is no download button. I am logged in to my account.
Posted 12 years ago # -
That was the Friday Freebie. I got the email today as well and at that time, the link was still there. In fact it was "orange", not "gray" indicating that everybody could get it then. I already had it so I didn't try.
As usual, they kept the Friday Freebie up all weekend but their emails were a little slow and by the time you got it, it had closed. I would send them an email complaining that you got an email with a free game that wasn't free when you got the message. Maybe they'll give it to you anyway.

Thanks suki, I think this is a repeat. Looks like they are doing the same as Sandlot did, with a roll around.

Aqua Bubble
Hey Whabbit, I think your right!
Posted 12 years ago # -
Today is Aqua Bubble, a repeat.
Posted 12 years ago # -
boo! lol
Posted 12 years ago # -
I don't think they turned Aqua Bubble off since last week! Talk about repeat -- from last week!
Posted 12 years ago # -
Today's game is Aqua Bubble 2...the sequel to last week's game.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Thanks for reminding me. always tend to forget about Realore. :)
I wish they'd add some more games to their free games. It doesn't seem that long ago that this one was given away before?
Posted 12 years ago # -
Aqua Bubble and Aqua Bubble 2 were both offered as the Friday Freebie back in early September last year -- before you were required to join their club.
