Take your time and enjoy what you're doing, wrabbit... heaven knows you have us totally stocked for many moons, so we're not timing you! Lol. :)

Lol midori. As it was it took me more than twice as long to prepare the following list of games. I could have divided the titles into two to save time on tomorrows post, but I've given over my Thursday slot to reverseOrder, who wanted to post on more days and I had planned to post another game that Greylox had posted over the weekend (plus a few other games that I've found lurking in my to post folder - I spent too long sorting them out earlier. There's still another folder with at least another hundred or so games that I've had stored on one of my externals since around the time I started this project. I keep leaving them for a rainy day, but need to combine them with the ones I've sorted today. my oh my what a Geek I must be; talking about lists etc - lol. One thing is for sure, this project is going to go on a lot longer than I ever envisaged, thanks in part to Wizzard and rO, plus the fact that I'd grossly under estimated the number of free games available. I rarely bothered with free games prior to the project starting, simply because of my obsession for buying them (that sounds crazy too, lol). I'm glad I did though as there have been so many really cool arcade games.

I posted several Mugen games some months ago. The following is a fairly new one that I though was pretty decent (Inspired by my recent in game experiences of Zeno Clash, a fairly new First Person Beat ‘Em up game that I’ve been getting into recently. I was never a fan of games such as Street Fighter (even though I’m still tempted to order the new PC version Street Fighter IV). It’s featured on today’s featured games over at Caimans which is the only reason I’m posting it today. I’ve spent the last 2 hours sifting through the folder I created to store un posted free games that I’ve been collecting whenever I’m in the mood for searching out new games. Unfortunately I’ve been lazy of late removing those games that have been posted. With my drug induced memory problems playing tricks on me with respect to what games I’ve already posted, I decided to sort out the folder into posted and to be posted. I was hoping to spend some time installing then playing some of these games today so that I could post them, but now I’m not in the mood, so resorted to Caiman for some newly posted or well hidden treasures that we haven’t already found and posted previously. Anyway, I’ll cut the waffle and get down to posting the games I’ve found for today’s freeware project.

Ultimate MUGEN 2009: (557Mb)
This is a decent Mugen beat em up, though it may be a rather hefty download for some. Check out the you tube videos to see if you think you’ll like the game. You’ve got around 70 characters to choose from in game. There are several different fighting modes to choose from:Game modes:
• Arcade: Go 1 on 1 against the computer
• Versus: Go 1 on 1 against your friend
• Team Arcade: Play various team-up modes against the computer
• Team Versus: Play various team-up modes against your friend
• Team Co-op: Gang up against the computer with your friend
• Survival: See how long you can last in an endless battle!
• Survival Co-op: Play survival mode with your friend as a partner
• Training: Try out moves and combos
• Watch: Watch a fight between AI fighters
To select characters from the character selection screen use I, J, K, L and D. To initiate character selection you must press D once, then use the I,J,K and L buttons to scroll up and down as well as sideways through the large selection of characters. Once you’ve made your selection (or both selections if you have chosen to play a team match) use the key pads enter button (not the main enter button) to start the selection process for the second team. The only down side to the game (for me at least) is the lack of an options menu. To escape from the selection screen back to the main menu just click on Esc. The game appears to be playable only in a window, but I went ahead and included the game because I think it’s got a lot of playability and is a decent game. It may be possible to force it to a full screen, but that’ll mean messing with the games files, which I’m not qualified to do at this time. If anyone manages to do it, please post the method here. Thank you.

AWSD: kicks and punches - I went to Karate classes when I was a teenager (inspired by the TV series Kung Fu), but have long since forgotten the names of all the punches and kicks. The only one I remember the English name for is a roundhouse kick which is accomplished by pressing w. D is used for another type of kick and the other two keys for punches; though for some characters the key bindings change. You’ll have to figure that out for yourself. The games I posted previously used similar keys. It may help if you check the games synopsis for those games and see what the key bindings are.

This link takes you to the Megaupload site. If you don’t have an account, you may have to wait several minutes depending upon what time of day you download. At no peak times the waiting times are usually less than a minute). I did get a pop up when I entered the Megaupload site, the pop up didn’t have a rating from WOT.

p.s.
While trying to find the options menu I happend to click on F1, which brough up a window informing me that this version of the game was actually a beta version and a message said do not distribute this version. Knowing that Caiman is a reputable site I've assumed it to be okay now to distriute the game. I will check to see if there are any other versions available. It may be that a full screen version is available elsewhere. (I hope)

Super Mario 2: Yoshi's Island: (1.07Mb)
This is Caiman’s game of the day - Free Yoshi's kids and punish Bowser in this nice German Mario game. The first levels are one-screen levels; the later ones are much bigger and are real platformers. The game has a decent sound and excellent graphics. Each world has around 15 to 20 levels, so this game should keep you occupied for more than just a few hours. You may get a message that says:
This application has failed to start because CNC32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Thankfully the author has included a download link for two dll files CNCS32.dd and CNCS232.dll on the games page at Caiman. You have to install one or both into your C:\windows\System folder.
Each time you finish a world, you get a password, so that you later can restart from this world. Apparently the author has posted all the passwords on the Caiman forums. If anyone does get the time to find them, please post them in this thread for us… Thank you.
The main download has no installer, but a second link has been added which does have one. The game language is in German, but to be honest, for those not able to understand German, the dialogue isn’t really needed. You could use the game as a learning tool to help with learning the language, lol.
• World 1: Someone has kidnapped the Yoshi's babies. Mario has to free them all.
• World 2: There still some kids left in the mountains to liberate.
• World 3: And now free the stolen children in the snowy world.
• World 4: Play with Yoshi in a grimy world.
• World 5: There are still two stolen eggs left to find
• World 6: Mario want to punish Bowser, the kidnapper for what he has done and enters his castle...

Webs of Destruction: (27.3Mb)
Here’s a really cool looking indie multi view (you have two different perspectives to choose from) Space Shooter for up to four players, that’s available for both the PC and Mac. You can use keyboard (only single player), joystick or game pad (up to four players) to play Webs of Destruction. The autors aim was to create a game that was designed to be more like a game from the 16-bit era of gaming. His team have tried to retain the same true arcade feel, while adding the new whip element to power up as well.
The game has 9 tough levels that you’ll find hard to beat. It was very well received at ScrewAttack's Iron Man of Gaming 2008
The goal of the game is to make your way through 9 levels infested between VR planets and outer space itself. Destroy the insect inspired ships and be victorious in the fight for release. Use your whip on certain enemies to upgrade your guns in the virtual planet levels, and fly through space in 3D during the space stages.
The Web Whip (Left Alt) is used to power up. Certain enemies (try the yellow bees you might find in level 1) will be "whippable". Whip the enemy once, they will spin around. Whip them again while they're spinning, you power up. You can do this twice to get a mega-fiery shot, which will come in handy.
Powering-up only works on vertical stages. The half-pipe stages have only one shot, but if you make it to the next level without dying, you will keep whatever power-ups you had.

Left Alt = Web Whip

Redrick Quest: The Lost Soul: (37.3Mb)
This is quite a short RPG game with an unusual story. There’s probably only around 2 hours of game play, but I thought it was worth the effort to post some details here because it looks gorgeous. The graphics are well done and the game plays well. The game can be controlled either by keyboard or joystick.
The StoryPrince Redrick, our hero wants to retrieve his father, the King, victim of a mysterious disappearance. But things become more and more mysterious when Redrick realizes that he is dead himself!

Space = Action button/confirm
Enter = Confirm
Arrows = Move
Esc = Ingame menu

As with the Super Mario 2 game there’s two download links. The main one gives you a file with no installer, so once you’ve unpacked the game you will have to manually place the game where you normally install your games; ( the default is usually C:\program files or C:\games) and then create a shortcut. If you want a Start menu shortcut there’s a short tutorial in the forums (it’s a sticky) on how to create a shortcut for both your desktop (easy) and the start menu, which is a little more complicated, but still easy. The second file has an installer which creates a desktop shortcut, but not a start menu one.

delenn13 posted an excellent and free Mah-jong game today called MyMahj; which can be played in 2D and 3D. I thought I’d add it to today’s free games projects thread simply so that it’s included in the project rather than floating around in the games discussion forums and thus less likely to get buried.
I do intend creating a list of all the threads from the ‘free games for the weekday’ project together with links, and the games that are contained within each thread from the start of the project, much like G@rgoyles Games Synopsis. Though when I actually get around to continuing with the list is another story ( I started it earlier today).
MyMahj:
Game rules
The purpose of the game is to clear the screen of tiles by clicking on two identical tiles (or two seasons or flowers). Only exposed tiles can be removed at any given moment. A tile is exposed if there is no tile over it, and if there is empty space on its left or right side.
Some key features:
• The window can be resized (you can play in all screen resolutions).
• The game remembers the window size between sessions.
• The tiles have shadows and they disappear progressively when they are removed.
• The game is multi-language: English and French are available.Video:

Out of respect for delenn13 I’ve posted a link to the giveawayoftheday forum thread that she posted the link in as well as a direct link to the game. The download link I’ve provided to the authors site links to Softpedia via a button found in the menu to the top left of the page. It’s common courtesy to link from the author’s site as opposed to where the actual game is stored (Softpedia)

Thanks, Wrascally Rabbit!
I got the Mario one and the Ghostbusters one from yesterday. NOW, to find the time to play them. LOL I am playing catch up from yesterday's headache.

Hi delenn, if you like beat 'em ups I recommend the first one. The game play is decent and despite the game being played in a window, the graphics are crisp, (as you'd expect lol). In fact I think all of the games are worth playing.
I wasn't sure about the Ghostbusters game yesterday, but ater another pl;ay today found i really enjyed it. Oddly I also bought the video of the first Ghostbusters film today. They were selling it for only £1 ($1.6o), so I couldn't help myself; besides I like to watch such films on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon, lol

For MyMahj, remember to download version 4.1d if you want the latest version. After arriving on the mirror selection page on Softpedia, click on the link that says 4.1d to get the latest version (this will link directly to the 4.1d installer on the developer's site).

The second movie is good also. They are in the process of making a new one where it is the passing of the guard...

I keep a folder of things that I want to download and at the end of the month I have a downloading frenzy if I have the bandwidth left.

Hi Lan, definitely..... :) Thanks in advance. You've probably saved me lod sof time.
I'm really looking forwards to Ghostbusters 3. In fact there's more sequels o 80's movies planned, such as TRON 2. that's another I'm really looking forwards to. Apparently there's also two more Rambo movies planned as well.
By the way, the short RPG I've posted links to above - well.... the dialogue is badly translated, but don't let that put you off playing it.
Regards
Stephen

Thanks, Wrabbit. I think I'll try the short RPG. So you find out that you're dead, sounds interesting :).
I might try some of the others if I have the time.Posted 15 years ago #
