Silent Strike: (39.6Mb)
It's an on-rails shooter, the first level seeing you sat in the passenger seat of a jeep driving at speed through a seriously hostile environment, taking down the enemy and avoiding the hostages as you go. Make it that far and you get airlifted by a chopper and must shoot the enemies as you circle around the city. The game has a decent soundtrack (complete with George Bush voiceover!), shops and options screens all of which lead into a well polished title. The graphics are nicely done in-game too, the gun models especially.

I’ve previously posted games from the authors site. I found this one via the Caiman games pages. It must be relatively new because I’d not seen it before. If you go to the authors download link you’ll find several more games, some of which I’ve not posted yet. :). The minimum requirements are pretty high, but the author does say that the game will still run on slower syatems so long as you have a decent graphics card
Territory : The Mountain Men : (74.2Mb)
A very good 3D adventure game. Exploring and trading with Indian tribes.
Seek your fortune in the fur trade. Trade and battle with Indians. Fight grizzly bears and wolves. Explore the upper Missouri.
Territory: the Mountain Men is about exploring and trading with Indian tribes in the early 19th century. You establish a trading post where the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers join. In the next 15 years your goal is to become the richest fur trader in the territory and to beat the rival traders operating in the area. To accomplish this you will have to battle natives, grizzlies and wolves and search out mountain passes and natural wonders.
Story:
It's 1815. You are young and adventurous and your goal is to become rich and famous. You set out to make your fortune in the Upper Missouri region of the Louisiana Purchase, recently acquired from France by President Jefferson. In St. Louis you have heard tales of the success of companies like John Jacob Astor's American Fur Co, Manuel Lisa's Missouri Fur Co. and the Hudson Bay Co.In the town taverns you have listened to the mountain men who have returned with bales of fur. They tell glowing tales of the bountiful land to the West where there is plentiful beaver for trapping and the native tribes are eager to trade pelts for firewater, weapons, copper pots, beads, trade tomahawks and other goods.
There is an insatiable market in Europe for beaver pelts. European gentlemen want fine hats and a beaver felt hat is considered extremely valuable. But the beaver has been extinct in Europe since the 16th century.
With borrowed money, you set up the Rocky Mountain Fur Company, determined to become the richest citizen of the new territories. You hire an agent to handle the bookwork and requisitions in St. Louis and, with a trapper companion and trade goods, you set off to make your fortune in the new territories.
Min.Requirements:
Pentium 4, CPU 3Ghz, Ram 1 GB
Graphics Accelerator Card with 128 MB Ram
Direct X 9.0C, Windows 2000, Windows XP
note: The game does run fine on slower computers as well, but a good graphic card and DirectX 9c are a must.
win Vista: If using Vista, it may be necessary to right click the program's startup icon and select "properties" then "compatibility" and set it to "run as Win XP".

Singed Earth (13.3Mb)
This is similar to a previously suggested game called Scorched 3D. I spent most of my spare time last night playing on the giveaway server that Wizzard had set up. We’re hoping to expand the games played to lots of others so it looks like were going to have yet another reason to visit the forums. :) Anyway, I mention the above simply to lay down my excuse for not presenting the following games as efficiently as I would normally.
This is a really good version of Tanks in 3D. You can play against the computer AI, and while it’s a good shot – it isn’t perfect, which means you actually stand a perfectly valid chance of winning a game. You can set the number of players, having 3 computer AI opponents is good fun and they don't all attack you either, so it evens out things a little. There is also a variety of weapons to fire including a 'Well Digger' which will lower the land significantly, a 'Rolling Bomb' which will land on the ground and then roll until it hits something or explodes and others including of course the traditional 'single shot'. There were a few texture issues (we believe) which rendered all the tanks black on our test PCs, but surprisingly the game was still perfectly playable. Good solid fun.
Pros:
• Superb computer AI opponents
• Good selection of weapons
• Game ran at a constant and fast pace
Cons:
• All tanks appeared black, texture issue perhaps?
• Music got a little repetitive
• Ability to scroll the map would have been useful to see where the others were

I was going to leave this one for the coming week, but I don’t want to post multiplayer games during the weekdays. The following game is ideal for a small LAN party, but can also be played over the internet:
Counter Strike 2D: (5.01Mb)
A multi-player shooting game
Who doesn't know or hasn't played the famous game Counter-Strike? I bet that I will never find the answer to that question. Unreal Software has made a top-down 2D shooter of Counter-Strike for those looking for a small game to play over LAN or the internet. It's not the real thing, but it is quite fun to play this game.
The objective of the game is to defeat the other team in several missions which you choose to play in. You can either choose to save the world as a counter terrorist or if you are more of a fireworks person, you can join the notorious ranks of the terrorists. Before the game actually starts, you can buy weapons and high-tech equipment to fight the other team with. Most missions are demolition-missions, but there are plenty of missions were hostages need to be escorted or where a VIP needs to be assassinated/protected.
The fun thing about this game is that all the maps, player models and (nearly) all the guns are included in the game together with those familiar sounds we all love. To top it off, the makers have included some of their own brilliant made maps in the game for us to shoot in. If you don't have any friends and the bots are too easy for you, why don't you test your skills on the internet. There are plenty of servers on the internet and there are enough players for you to turn into cannon fodder.
The game is not so special, but it offers quite a bit of entertainment when organizing a LAN-party and that makes it worth the download.
