Sorry today’s games are a little late. I was too shattered to post them last night. Again I’ve got several games for you including yet another spider game; though it is a flash game and rather simple this time.
No Respect: (60Mb)
No Respect is one of those games which are never worth full price, but suddenly become good games when released under a budget label. Unfortunately, No Respect never got the chance to be released under a budget line, because Ocean went bankrupt shortly after making it. If it had, it would have been regarded by many, and especially by those who scorned it when it first came out, as a darn fun game.
First and foremost, the graphics, while nothing impressive by today's standards, are very different from many games of its era. Its main downfall is the low 320x240 resolution that it uses, as opposed to the common default of 640x480 in its time, but it does use an innovative voxel landscape that makes each arena intricately detailed, although it falls prey to the usual voxel fault of blockyness (masked quite well by the low resolution). The ship models are also well made, animated and textured, and the game produces a variety of colorful special effects.
The sound is nothing special either. The music is, while quite strange, strangely suitable to the industrialized theme of the game, and the sound consists mainly of a low-voiced alien-like announcer and a variety of explosions, whooshes and firing sounds. It is however, quite good quality sound, and the music is read straight off the CD, so there are no compression errors.
The storyline offers no real impact to the game play. You are a mercenary protecting the mining grounds of TransMine, a has-been mining company holding on to Sector E3, which consists of four planets. In order to protect them, you must face and defeat mercenaries from other mining companies in arena style combat. Basically, it comes down to destroying everything that moves. There is no real story progression throughout the game: only more opponents to blow away.
As such, the game play gets quite repetitive. Choose a character and annihilate everything that moves in lots of rounds filled with mad fire-button pressing. This does make for a very fast-paced game, especially if you are using one of the faster ships. The AI, while basic, is quite effective and mainly consists of 'head for the nearest powerup while strafing and shooting you'. This is the reason for my earlier comment that the game doesn't really hold enough variation for a full price game, but is still very fun for a quick ten- or fifteen-minute blastfest.
Each of the selectable characters in the game has one of four basic types of ship, modified to their own liking, having more fuel, shield, handling or weapons power than other characters' ships, as well as a different paint job. This adds a little variation to the game, but because the same character has to be used for the entire game (21 stages or so) instead of allowing a mid-campaign change, the choice of ship made earlier can sometimes condemn you later.
Overall, this game is not the best ever made. It has the advantages of a detailed but low-res graphics engine and fun gameplay, but the disadvantages of running out of gaming steam quite quickly. Thankfully, the game is savable mid-campaign, but this is not the sort of game that you would stay up all night playing for a long period of time. Overall, I think that, all of its good and bad points considered, that this game deserves a 3 - good for a quick blast, but not for a gaming marathon.
Notes:
1)....No Respect must be run under compatibility mode for Windows 95, because otherwise the keyboard and mouse will stop responding to anything (including Ctrl+Alt+Delete).
2)....This version of the game is also cracked (not in the illegal sense) by Tommyboy in order to provide a reasonable download size. If you want to hear the music, download the full CD image from the ISO Cellar.
3)....The menu will likely run far too fast, especially in the character selection menu. Just be careful with your key presses, because the game itself will run fine.
You can use either the NR.EXE or NR11.EXE files to run the game. NR11 is a patched version, so it is probably preferable to use it.

Halls of the Things:
The 'Halls of the Things' (or HOTT) is one of those games which looks naff, sounds pathetic and is almost impossible to play - particularly if you are only endowed with one head, two arms and ten fingers. And there is the magic! You see, these obstacles can be overcome if you INCREASE the normal number of appendages. Then, the game becomes one of the most enjoyable things you can do with a quantity of silicon, some rubber, metal and electricity. OK, so maybe not (you poor twisted person, you).
All you do is get two of your (very) good friends, and assign some of the functions to each of you. Then, perform finger origami in order to all get round the keyboard and off you go! For example, one of us would steer, pick things up and fire lighting bolts, one would fire arrows and open doors, and the other would throw fireballs, use the sword and restore health. The result was not dissimilar to the three headed monster in Monty Python's 'Holy Grail'. Frenzied shouts of "Sword him! sword 'im!" mixed with "Run away!!" and "Open the door NOW," ensued as we crowded around the Sinclair Hand-warmer, our fingers in painful looking positions as we strove to control the character

Spider Buster v1.05
This is from the same developer as Hell Creatures and as such you’ll find a download link from the same download page. It’s a type of space invaders game, but instead of being in space you’re killing spiders. There are power ups available and every so often there’s a boss spider, though apart from being able to take a few extra hits there’s nothing special about the boss spider.
Move left or right……….. left and right cursor keys
Jump…………………….. Shift
Fire……………………….CtrlIt’s very simple and apart from the one above is probably the naffest of the spider games I’ve posted, however, it does have some playability, especially for those odd minutes that you may want to fill in between doing more important thing like playing better games. :)

S-type
A retro looking side scrolling space shooter from the same developer as Hell Creatures and Spider Buster. I decided to include them all together because the download page contains all of his games. You’ll find a few more games that you may want to download that I’m not going to bother to include such as several versions of Super Bros and Terrorstrike.
I loved S-Type as soon as I started playing it, partly because It took me back to many hours of misspent time on the commodore. The graphics are basic, but the game play is there. As you’d expect, lots of power ups and a few bosses . The following is the developers blurb:
This is my first shoo`em up game! Was made once in 1996.
Its a big game.There are 15 levels,6 bosses and 20 weapons!
You can upgrade your weapons a lot.
Your mission is to stop the evil "Halloween Man" terror in space!
Get the biggest weapon, and no one can stop you!
Take your seat!
Good luck!

Tetris Gold (30.5Mb):
Tetris Gold is a compilation containing all Tetris titles from Spectrum Holobyte plus a so called prototype (the original Tetris):
Tetris prototype
Tetris
Tetris Classic
Super Tetris
Faces ...tris III
Wordtris
Welltris
Tetris Classic for Windows
Super Tetris for Windows
They are connected via a select interface as seen on the screenshots. The really interesting features of this edition are an interview with creator Alexey Pajitnov (if you get Microsoft Video for Windows 1.0 to run or have a simple mplayer installed apart from that) and the integrated manuals.Notes:
A corruption of some files seems to have occurred, the interview got cut and the other files in its directory (VIDPLAY) and the main readmes became unusable.
The game is provided as a CD image in ISO format so you’ll need to copy it to disc before you can play.To open it in Windows use Daemon Tools (in Abandonia's site menu it's under services)
To play in DOSBox use following commands unless using Wizzards suggestion (see thread called DOSBox made easy):imgmount x [path to GOLDTET.ISO]\GOLDTET.ISO -t cdrom
mount y [path to GOLDTET.ISO]
