I thought it would be a good idea to gather together the best of the free games that we have been posting on theses forums into one post, so that they are easily accessible. Also it will give everyone an oppertunity to try games that they weren't aware of that are of a higher standard than most free games.

To do this I need you the downloaders of these games to list the ones you think are good or even brilliant. Score each game (out of 10) for Gameplay, Graphics and replayability. Please try and be quantative and not subjective, that is just because such and such a game is your favorite game don't give it a 10 unless you are absolutely certain you think its worth 10 which would mean its got pefect game play) For example I think Even More Incredible Machines was a great game so would score it out of 10 for each category 9 - 3 - 8 (The graphics are dated, so couldn't give it a high score. Gameplay is the most important, then replayability, though I do think graphics do add to the game play. Another of my favorite games from this project is Chak's Temple. Arkanoids were one of the first genres that I got into in a big way and still remain one of my favorite arcade game genres. I'd score that 8 - 7 - 8. You can add as many games to your list of favorite or games you think are good quality.

'If' enough community members respond to this thread I'll collate the results (probably after my vacation at the end of next month {May}) and come up with a top 10 or 20 games. There's over 500 games to choose from, so I could even make it the top 50, lol.

lol GMMan, i think the point of this survey is for the daily game project whiterabbit started. If HL was given away here, someone did a big illegal no-no lol.

Legends of Zork

I have been testing the remake of this old classic for a few weeks now. It is a free to play turn based browser game,which like others you can purchase in game money. Not sure about a rating. prob. a 5-4-3, to me it is a 3 for an over all, but lots of other people really like it.

Hi Txnnok,

It is free, but it'd also ad supported. However, the ad only seems to appear in the menus as oppsed to Gamehouse games that pop up every few levels.

GMMan ....lol (I agree, Half Life is brilliant)

So let me just confirm, Wrabbit... this is just for games that you and others have posted here as the weekday giveaways (or weekend if need be), and not ones we've found ourselves or are ad-supported.

On a personal note. I'd be happy to see free games that others have found, and think worthy of inclusion, rated here. As long as members/mods don't mind of course and a link is included! After all, you can never have too many games lol :)

Hi Midori, yes, just for games posted in the forums that are always free.

One of the reasons I've posted this survey is to indirectly guage the temperature of the community towards this project. There have been comments in the game giveaway section that make me wonder whether the time and effort of searching for and then presenting these games is worthwhile. Though both myself and Wizzard agree that it's community members like yourself who virtually always acknowledge what we are doing, that makes it worthwhile carrying on. :)

The project has been running for seven months now and there has been around 500 games posted (which for those who don't know, can be found in the games synopsis thread which is posted as a sticky on the front page of the games discussion thread. There are hundreds more games to be posted and virtually every week new titles are being added to the list, so there's no reason why this project can't carry on almost indefinitely. The number of high end free games like Psi -Ops, The Babylon Project, and Fate by Numbers are dwindling, but I'm sure the occasional 'large' gem will be found by either myself, Wizzard or Reverse order or one of the several community members such as pavid and The Webmaster, that have helped occasionally.

I hope this clarifies things. Sorry for my long winded explanations, I'm pretty much stuck here and find writing a release from the boredom of my four walls. :)

To Thenameipicked, I've hardly included any of the games you picked, but I would agree with you on the gameplay of virtually all of those you've listed. Though it would have made my list even larger if I'd have added them. :)

Hi, Whiterabbit,

I saw those comments in the download section and thought they were misplaced. Some of the game types don't appeal to me, but I have downloaded and played quite a few of those recommended by you; forgive me if I don't give ratings, the day job calls.

But please don't believe for one moment that the community (well, most members anyway) don't truly appreciate what you do. It's great that you go to the trouble to do reviews!

Whilst I am not a regular poster about the games offered here, I want you to know that I, for one, really appreciate the time and effort you put into researching and finding said games :)
Since GAOTD stopped their daily game, I've depended (and looked forward to) your offerings.

Here's a new free game or new to me anyway that I found. http://www.scarygirl.com
I thought I had found it here, but after doing a search I couldn't find it. Regardless of how I was directed it, I'm going to spread the wealth.

It is a browser game. It if free and fun to play. I typically don't say that about browser games, so give it a try. Oh and it also has good graphics.
I give it a 8-7-8, I could the last 8 a 9 for an overall, but I haven't gone through the whole game yet, so it would be unverified. If they put as much story/game in to as they spent on the rest of the game then it will most definitely will be a 9.

Whiterabbit, please remember there are, and always will be, those that get satisfaction in expressing their gray, negative opinions. In other words, they get their greatest joy in raining on other people's parades. Your work is the soul of this place, we can count on your reviews to be well researched and as thorough as you can make them. They are consistent, it is easy to go right to the section that will tell you what you want to know most about the software in question. You are always supportive of fellow users and are very careful to include all. The info provided by you and others on this site is as valuable as the software being offered. Personally, I think you are brilliant and this freeware project is well worth your effort. You and the ones that work with you, are creating a treasure chest one gem at a time. Thanks!:)
