Today, instead of posting student games I will be posting games from the 72 Hour Game Development Competition. All games submitted to this competition have been developed in under 72 hours. They were created in summer 2003 under the theme, mindless violence.

Migget Chainsaw Hands
Migget Chainsaw Hands is a 2d arena fighting game. It was first overall in the 72 hour gdc. The goal is to kill as many cyborgs as possible. Enemies drop items after you kill them such as health, extra lives, and special pill items. Collecting enough special pills allows you to perform a special attack.

The Martian
The Martian is a Run-n-Gun SHMUP that won second place overall. Unfortunately, this game only seems to work on my old computer. They also have a homebrew version for the Nintendo DS that you can play if you have the right equipment.
In The Martian, the player assumes the role of a lone alien attempting to destroy a city. The first level is an urban landscape in which the player must combat the police force. Once the police force is eliminated, the city will be yours for the plucking!
There are four primary weapons: Machine Gun, Spread, Laser, and Missle. Use them against four enemy types: Popos, Chubby Cops, SWAT-men, and Window-men. In addition, you will have to test your mettle agains the mighty donut-upchucking bosses. Be on the look out for power-ups, including the four weapons, med packs, one-ups, and extra points.

Highway Havoc
This game is a 2d driving game where you're trying to destroy things. There isn't much to do so it's only worth playing for 5 minutes or less.
Readme:
The goal of the game is to cause as much carnage as possible on a highway. This includes running down pedestrians, causing car pileups, leading police cars into oncoming traffic, and preferably a combination for the most points. However, the best way to score points is not to ram cars into others, but to scare them into driving into other traffic so that little damage is taken to you. Also, causing a ton of accidents in a short period scores the highest points. You'll know you're doing it right when you get a Big, Huge, or even Monstrous Combo.
