Today’s game is called Polarity. Polarity is a great puzzle platforming game that involves magnetism. The two different polarities are represented as red and blue. Naturally, blue is attracted to red and repels against blue. The object of the game is to use the different polarities towards your advantage to overcome different obstacles in the game. The obstacles include electrocuted floors, electric balls, and impossible jumps.
This is an excellent little freeware game that is truly unique. I desperately hope the developers create a sequel that is much longer in comparison to Polarity. My run-through of the game took 21 minutes to complete, so this is definitely not a game that you can grind for hours on. However, due to the concept of the game, I felt that this game is a definite addition to my games library. The game consists of 4 levels with an extra final level in which you battle a boss. The game is fairly easy, but do expect to die several times while figuring out exactly what to do; particularly in the boss fight.
The developers website urges players to use a gamepad if they have one. I did find the game to be easier to control while using my 360 controller, but not impossible on the keyboard. Keys can be mapped to your liking. The sound is great and the graphics are just as good. I did find the 90mb download to be a bit much for only 5 levels and 20 minutes of gameplay, but well worth the download. I give Polarity a much deserved 10/10.
I ask that you not watch the trailer on the author’s site however, because it ruins the point of figuring out what to do. I realize that gameplay videos are nice when trying to decide if you should download, but for a 20 minute game like this, it ruins gameplay. The screenshots are rather nice, though, and should help you decide if it looks like the game is worth your wait.
