Today’s game is called The Spirit Engine. The Spirit Engine is a team based RPG. Once you get done installing the game and launch it, the first thing you must do is decide what quality of sound and video you wish. After that, you start a new game and must choose 3 characters for your team. The three basic characters are mage, rifleman, and priest.
Once you start on your journey with your three characters, you must sit through some long-winded dialogue. Your three characters are “plucked” from their surroundings via a magical beam. Not knowing one another, they set off towards the nearest town to see what has happened. Along the way, you will run into your first combat. Combat, for the most part is done for you. The two parties will exchange blows until you have defeated them. Once you have defeated them, you click in the menu at the top and click skills. From this menu, you can level up each of your characters.
Navigation is entirely done with the mouse. If you click and hold on one extreme side of the window, your characters will walk that way. Combat later becomes more intricate when you have learned new skills. You have the ability of changing what kind of attack and defense you use in order to defeat the enemy. Once you have reached the town, you have the option of purchasing supplies and saving your game. You can hit the escape button to take you back to the main menu in order to close the program.
This is a cute little game that seems like it could be quite strategic and fun after allowing your characters to acquire new skills. I encourage everyone to give it a strong chance. At 38.6mb’s, it’s worth a shot. Overall, I give the game an 8/10 so far. If you like the game, there is a Spirit Engine 2 that can be purchased from the authors site at http://www.thespiritengine.com
