Several Physics based games developed for the Experimental Game play Project
I decided to post a potpourri of physics based games today, all of which were developed in under a week (as per guidelines of the project). As the games generally don’t stand up to what I consider a good game with respect to replayability and the time it takes to complete the game, I decided to post a whole bunch of them (15) because you can probably complete each game individually within an hour or less. There should be something for everyone here. What actually got me interested in the project was my discovery of the game called Tower of Goo. Which although very simplistic, grabbed my attention enough for me to blindly pay out nearly $20 for a game called World of Goo, which at the time was still under development. I was lucky enough to get on the Beta testers list, so got to play the whole of the first section of World of Goo several months ago, and I must say I immediately thought that this is going to be a brilliant game when it’s finished. It was finally released just over a month ago, nearly 10 months after I paid the money and I was even more pleased with the finished product. I do think at least one other of the games I’m posting today is going to result in a very successful game. Can anyone tell me which they think it is (after playing the games). Just a side note about Tower of Goo, you may think when you play it that how on earth could anyone devise a game around such a simple concept. Let me assure you the final product is awesome (hey I’m not a rep for 2D Boy, lol. Just telling it like it is as far as I’m concerned.
Anyway, I hope I haven’t overloaded you with the significantly longer list of games than I usually post for the weekday games project. Just enjoy, I’m off for another week while Wizzard surprises us with his choices of free games. I’ve got some more great games lined up for you starting from the 15th December. :)

Cuball: (61.7Mb)
Cuball is a two-player cooperative puzzle game, where you play two very different characters, a Cube and a Ball, who have to cooperate to finish a series of levels of ever increasing difficulty. The game has a combination of team-based game play as you find in LittleBigPlanet and the elements of a realistically behaving game with physics such as Switchball (one of the best marble simulation games I’ve ever played). On top of that it offers a chance for the players to think outside of the box and solve puzzles together in new ways. This game requires you to have XNA Framework 2.0 installed and 2 Xbox360-controllers connected to your PC, instructions can be found in the readme.txt, enjoy

Kartofan (<1Mb):
This game looks likw a mix of Gish and Elastomania. Use keys "A" and "D" to roll and "G" to jump. (requires .NET Framework 2.0)

Kimboot 1: (12Mb)
I wasn’t sure about this one, but hey, it’s a game. You control a hand holding some very heavy ball on a rope (physics simulation included), and there are a lot of enemies trying to eat your hand. Y ou have to stop them by! Crushing 'em all with the ball!

Macesmash: (7.64Mb)
This game was built around the theme of "chain". It started out as a desire to construct a physics model of a swinging chain which could be whipped around to destroy things. In its final incarnation, the chain became a spring model, the enemies became spiders, and the game ended up being pretty fun.
Please read the following: 1) Yes, I know it's technically a flail and not a mace :) 2) Some will find it awkward to manipulate the mace handle using the keyboard, and will ask why it isn't a mouse game instead. I originally conceived it as a mouse game but I found that with mouse control it was just too darn easy, and was not fun. As a keyboard game I find it challenging, and enjoyable. 3) The game is released as an MSI installer, and will install the Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 if you don't already have it. Once installed it will show up in your start menu. 4) The game can be uninstalled using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

Most of the above games are ideal for filling in those odd minutes you may have spare, or for just taking a short break from more in depth games. You've probably come across at least a few of the above games. I first came across plus and minus in one of those Best of games last year (I think it was for one of the big PC magazines. Anyway, don't forget to tell me which game younthink will be a big one when it's released as a full game. :)
