Today’s Game is called Baseball Mogul 2006. This game is a must for fans of baseball. The Mogul series specializes in running your own baseball team. Ever wondered what it would be like to have Albert Pujols, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriguez on the same team? This game makes it possible. You can take control of any baseball team all the way back to 1901! With historical statistics and teams, this game is as genuine as they come.
The game tracks every baseball player that played, every team that was inducted into the MLB, every new city, and every new ballpark. When a new team enters the league, an expansion draft is held and you must decide which players you want to keep.
Baseball Mogul puts you in the owner’s seat. You control all the financial aspects of the game. Not making enough profit? Try raising ticket prices or vendor prices. Maybe you should change television contracts. Over time, you can even build a new stadium. You can even create your own team and start from scratch (don’t count on an expansion draft for your team though.)
The game does have a couple of flaws, however. It is WAY too easy to cheat in this game. Baseball Mogul has a commissioner mode that lets you change how much money you have, up to $1 billion. You can also change a player’s abilities. I don’t like that if you create a team, you don’t get an expansion draft like the other teams. All of your players come from the free agent pool. Also, when drafting players, the game tends to offer them up to the draft much earlier than they were in real life.
This game is a pure sim game, so don’t expect to see any gameplay video or anything like that. However, the newer versions of Baseball Mogul included this with them. I would suggest that if you like this game, you should look into buying the newer versions. However, I would not be surprised if the company offers 2007 for free soon, since they have done so with 2005 and 2006 with every new game. The newer versions are being sold very cheap on sites like Amazon and EBay. Even though the game has a few flaws, I give this game a 9/10.
The download rings in at 19mb, but is definitely worth it if you enjoy sim games (especially baseball.) Alternatively, 2005 rings in at 16mb if you don’t want to wait the extra minutes. 2005 is essentially the same game just not as updated. I recommend both games. The screenshots link is for 2005, but all of the screens look exactly the same as 2006.
