   Happyland Adventures (1.2Mb)

   This is a pretty basic platform game on the lines of Turtix, though this one was made for a contest and does not have the sophisticated graphics that Turtix sports. Still graphics are not the be all and end all of this type of game.

   It’s a lot harder to play than Turtix, so if you found that hard, then this may very well be too hard for you. It’s keyboard only controls I’m afraid. The following was written by the

   Happyland Adventures is a fun platform game combined with original puzzle elements--a game full of surprises. Explore the big levels and collect various fruits for bonuses. Save the Happylanders in order to rid the world of evil. The download includes a level editor, making it easy for you to expand the game to your liking. Happyland Adventures was originally written for a contest at GameDev.net, which it won. The game also claimed an award for best use of SpriteLib.

   Despite its sunny, unsophisticated graphics, Happyland Adventures is a surprisingly challenging adventure. You play a dog who travels through an amazing land. On the way you jump over pits filled with steel knives, eating hearts and other bonuses to increase your score. You have to recruit some creatures to follow you, while others will try to eject you from the land or do you in. If you die, you have to start over. Sometimes things happen too quickly for you to have any kind of control over the situation, which isn't very fun. Still, considering it's free, Happyland Adventures is worth a download. Kids might enjoy the cartoony graphics and simple plot, but serious gamers will find their skills pushed to the limit.

   For those not into these older games, I'll be posting something much more substantial soon; (probably one of the better games that I'll be posting in these forums - depending upon whether you like this particular genre) Put it this way I bought this unnamed game on CD several years ago and played it for months.

   I like games that have "level-editors", because there is almost no limit to the amount of levels you can make.

   Hi thewebmaster, yeah I agree. I've bought many a game simply on the basis that it had a levels editor (plus some decent gameplyay, lol).

   The name's derived from one of my favorite Jefferson Airplane songs from the 1960's called Whiterabbit. (which was basically a song about Alice in Wonderland, taking acid and seeing the white rabbit I started using the name when I played a Vietnam FPS game called Men of Valor several years ago. The song figured heavily during the Vietnam war period, so I figured it was an appropriate name to choose for my online name while playing a Vietnam war game. I also used to add moon rising (after Creedence Clearwater Revivals Bad Moon Rising, but that got too much to type out regularily. Though some of my Emails still use it.

   I can guess why you call yourself the webmaster. Do you have your own website?

   I also thought it was kinda' a catchy name. lol.
   Always wondered where Whiterabbit came from. I wondered, "Does he own a rabbit that's white? or, "Did he really love this white rabbit, but than something tragic happened to his rabbit, so he named himself in honor of the rabbit?"
   I know, sounds funny.

   How many people are called chip? (One of my favorite junk foods) I guess only you.

   Kind of sounds like sea name. A-um-um-thinkin' here-A name that a sailor would be given.

   Thanks a lot for reminding me of this great game! We played it quite extensively a few years ago, but lost it and forgot it.
