Here’s another game that I remember being released. At the time it caused quite a stir due to the use of a then unheard of graphics technique using polygons, that enables a much more fluid movement than had previously been available in computer games. Just take a look at any game released before this game. I’ll be posting another one similar to this game that was released shortly afterwards when everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. Don’t let the small size put you off downloading this marvelous adventure game. Watch out for the tentacles when you are first transported to another dimension. You appear at the bottom of a pool. You need to move upwards quickly otherwise you’ll be pulled down into the depth of the pool and drown if you’re not quick enough.
I can’t believe this game is for free now. I paid over $40 for it when it was first released. Though I no longer own a copy as I dumped all my old DOS games years ago. I’ll have yet another adventure game (apart from the one I’ll be posting tomorrow) that was just as much a classic as Another World, but I’ll leave that for a few weeks.
Originally released to European audiences as Out of This World, Another World is a platform puzzler that was met with a lot of praise from the press and public.
You play as Lester, the young physics professor, who suddenly finds himself in a strange alien world after a lightning struck his particle experiment. Now he should fight for his life, first with his bare hands, then with a gun he finds.
The background story is negligible as the focus of the game is entirely upon action and thinking, requiring players to use their head as well as their itchy trigger fingers. Stuck in the shoes of a man who's trapped upon an alien world with no apparent way to get home, players must survive the monstrous denizens of the land and overcome the terrifying obstacles that lie in their path. But what gives him courage is the fact he is not alone. One of the aliens, who together with him escapes from the prison, helps him on his dangerous quest. Friendship can overcome all the obstacles.
Most of the player's time is spent running and jumping from place to place, occasionally having to attack, but it is necessary to think before acting in this game. If actions are not properly timed or played out it means certain disaster, so you'll wind up having to try many scenes over and over to finally complete them.
Another World is an adventure game, where the adventuring element is concealed behind what looks like a typical platform shooter. The game play is based mainly on physical and environmental puzzles. Each enemy requires a different strategy, and often there is only one way to solve the problem.
Another World is divided into levels, each one of which can be accessed by typing a code you learn after having completed the level. The game features vector graphics and animated cut scenes.
Another World puts you in the middle of a story about action, adventure, and inter-dimensional travel. You will have to avoid laser blasts, boulders, and monsters. All of the action comes to life with real-time polygonal graphics. The animation is created with a rotoscoping process. A blend of digitized sound effects and music create the perfect mood for the game.

The first link is to a genesis emulated version of the game, the second link is to the PC version. To gain entry to the PC version you have to move a code wheel. I didn’t understand it, but moving the cursor to a particular symbol at random, then selecting it, then moving the cursor to okay opened up the game. The graphics seem to be better on the PC version, but the Genesis version runs better.
