This is a great little top down shooter in the vein of Alien Shooter, though being 17 years old the graphics are not as good. Still, the game play is just as good, so if you like such games as Alien Shooter, the RIP series and others like Theseus: Return of the Hero, this is definitely worth a try.
It’s another Sega game, so to play in full screen just press Esc. When you start up the game you will need to go to options and select the second control option (B). There’s no mouse control unfortunately, but that doesn’t spoil the fun for most I hope. The following describes the game well:
The year is 1972. The place is south Vietnam. Captain “Windbreak” Addis' plane has been shot down by the Vietcong. The captain ejected at the last second and is now in the thick of the jungle. Armed with a fifty-caliber machine gun and hand grenades, he must make it to the rendezvous sector.
In Caliber .50, you must guide Captain Addis through five levels of constant gunfire from irate villagers and communist troops (including flame and bazooka squads). Helicopters, tanks and fighter jets will also hunt you down. To defend yourself, you must avoid making contact with enemies and their gunfire while blasting away as many villagers, vehicles and soldiers as you can. End-of-level bosses include giant monkeys, a giant turtle and a rototiller.
Throughout the game you will run across wooden crates filled with power-ups. You can use these items to charge your weapon gauge. If your weapon gauge is high enough, you will automatically trade in your machine gun for a rocket launcher or a flame thrower. Other power-ups can give you invincibility, bullets that go through things, more distance to your weapons, and ultra hand grenades. You can even pick up an item that will instantly destroy every enemy on the screen.
Caliber .50 gives you three difficulty levels from which to choose: easy, normal and difficult. Pick one and begin your mission; Captain “Windbreak” Addis is counting on you.
Caliber Fifty is also known as Caliber 50, Caliber .50, Cal.50.
In Caliber Fifty game, you navigate your character in top-down view and continuously fire at enemies, turning him in different directions, since he doesn't always face the direction he is moving in. You can for example walk backwards, firing at the enemies who pursue you. Enemies include not only various types of gunmen, armed with rifles, flamethrowers, or grenade launchers, but also tanks and helicopters. You can blast open crates to find ammo and supplies. Defeated enemies also leave you items.
Caliber Fifty is a vertically scrolling shooter. Soldiers must destroy a variety of attacking enemies using their guns and hand grenades. This game is also known as Far East.
