On Sunday, there was a listing of a potential new addition to my list of "Freebie Circuit" sites. There was even some discussion along with the game discussion.
I looked at the site and it did look somewhat promising except for the fact that very few of it's games that might interest me were new. Most were also included in the 4 sites of the Freebie Circuit (MyPlayCity, MyRealGames, FreeGamePick and GameTop.
I did send an email to the site asking if the games were adware -- that is, ads within the games. The answer came back negative -- another positive sign.
I decided to try them (carefully). I have tried 4 games total. One I removed as I could not figure out how to play it. It had no helps at all. I am not so sure of the site now but I would like to hear of other comments.
It does give you a "full" install rather than just the stub to use for possible re-installs later (rather than download). However, it is sneakier and more persistent than most at offering other software. Yes, you CAN decline all but the base game. It's not always easy to determine if the screen is the game or one of these extra software additions. Then, after you get past step 4 (actual game install), there may be several more of the options including one after the game is totally installed (for some gadget).
I had been warned that there are further problems when you actually play the game. I have not seen that because I look into the installation folder. I can clearly see a smaller "stub" executable that is the game name that is obviously some wrapper. I delete that wrapper and make a shortcut (after testing) of the game.exe or similar name. That seems to work clean with no problems.
The problem that I see with the games from this site is an extremely picky and potentially troublesome install and one file that is another source of potential problems.
Has anybody else used this site? I welcome any further insights on their methods.
Thanks, all!
