Did not register, registration window pops up. I ran activator first, then setup. Anybody had same outcome?

Make sure you have activation.exe file and setup.exe
Install software first, when it has finished installing close it.
Then run activation.exe, wait for activation to finish (make sure you give permission from firewall to connect to net etc..).
The open program and it won't prompt you for registration details.
If you're unsure hit start > type 'regedit' without quotes and navigate to this key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Aimersoft and the sub keys should be 51 and DVDRipper.
I do remember when first installing this software, key 51 didn't show up in registry so I guess didn't register correctly first time around.

I did install the software as described by Lee: 1/ ran setup, 2/ did not start the program, 3/ ran activate ... I got the error message that the installation period for this software was over ... I think there are still 10 hours left to activate it. When I start the program I'm prompted for registration details. What can be the cause of this problem?

This is the sequence I use after dl. First unzip the Activate files. This will give you a folder with an 'Activate' icon. Don't click on this yet. Click on the set-up icon to unzip and install the program. Close the program. Now click on that 'Activate' icon, and almost immediately a message will pop up to tell you that activation was successful.
Now when you start the program it will be the full version.Posted 17 years ago # -
I tried it both ways - Activate first, and then setup first. Uninstalled each time in-between. Usine Win XP Home SP2. What should I see if it is registered? Right now, Help > Register asks for an e-mail addy and reg #.

Same problem here.
I have 5 hours left to activate this but it seems we're not getting any help yet.
I even had my registry cleaned but to no avail.
Please help.

Similar problem here on XP Pro SP2. Got dialog box that "2007-May-23 9:51:12 not a valid date"... that WONT go away; meanwhile, a registration page looking for email and reg# also comes up.
Not impressed so far.
Have to kill the process tree to get out of it.
Reg keys appear as in main post in this thread (key of 51 etc. all intact) but who knows?

Apologies--I should have mentioned that I'm using XP Home.

So? you had it working fine kliles?

Sadly, there is no way to install tonight's GAOTD. The .txt file says to use activate first. Using it first didn't do anything to the registry that I could see. Using it after installing the setup.exe did result in both subentries appearing, and the 51 sub had four subs under it. "Registration" had this:
http://support.aimersoft.com/stat/?action=register&client={7649ACBC-3ACA-4098-9F2E-623BCA152162}&sid=0&pid=51
which, if I put it in a browser, gave me this cute "Thanks for registering your software" page. But the software remained unregistered.I'm using Vista professional, just one more data point.
I would have liked to have this one (DVD ripper) to try. Maybe it'll be offered again? With a working activation!

I'm on XP Pro. I can't get DVD Ripper to activate either. It doesn't matter if I run Activate.exe before or after Setup.exe, it still doesn't work. I get the same "How to Register DVD Ripper?" pop-up asking for an email address & registration code.

I had problems activating under Vista. Activated it successfully under XP Home SP2 and I had to modify the registry to get the proper key to get it to work. I then copied that key obtained on my XP installation to my Vista installation and everything works great. I'd love to go into more detail, but the mods may decide to come down on me with everything but the kitchen sink. =P
I feel for you guys though as this is a great utility.

i use xp pro and could not activate, including turning off firewall.
have tried no less than 20 times.
how frustrating
Posted 17 years ago # -
20 times. Oh my! GAoTD Team: Perhaps you should reconsider re-doing this offer due to so many difficulties people are having!
Posted 17 years ago # -
I had successfully activated the first version offered but when I found out there was a newer version I downloaded and run activate again and now it is not registered anymore :(
Posted 17 years ago # -
Oh yes, "About" doesn't show it's registered. You have to goto Help -> Register and it'll tell you if it's registered or not.
Posted 17 years ago # -
I run the activate file several times, i get the successfully activated message, but when i run the program it still prompts me to register.
Posted 17 years ago # -
It prompts you and then if you click out....and then goto Help -> Register...it should say Registered if it occurred ok. What operating system are you running JD?

I retried yesterday's installation this morning. Btw, I'm using WinXP Prof SP2. These were my steps ...
1/ I uninstalled the soft.
2/ I restarted the computer.
3/ I cleaned the registry with TuneUp Registry Cleaner 2007.
4/ I restarted the computer.
5/ I ran setup to reinstall it. Before finishing the installation I always choose not to launch the software.
6/ I tried to activate it. This is precisely the error message I get.
We are sorry but giveaway period has already expired for this software. Free installation of this software is not possible. However, you can still purchase this software from its manufacturer and/or check our web-site giveawayoftheday.com for new giveaway titles.
7/ When the program is started I'm prompted for registration info ...There are 2 hours left to activate it. GAOTD-team, still anything I can do?
Posted 17 years ago # -
I am running WinXP Pro SP2. The thing is that when I installed the first version offered it registered correctly. When I installed the newer version and activated again, the program was registered but it crashed and it became a trial version.

I'd downloaded the 0.17 version earlier today, and activated it successfully. I just opened the program and found it's now an unregistered version. I uninstalled it and downloaded the 0.18 version. I got the 'Activation successful' message, but when I open the program it's an unregistered version. Aaargh! What's going on?
Posted 17 years ago # -
@ 4ict - download and activate/setup again. The same happened to me - it seems the setup file has changed at some stage - because the new file is a different size to the old one.
@ JD - the lesson: When it says the terms and conditions - no updates - that is why - often the key provided by the developer will only work on the one version of the program - if you upgrade - it will either revert back to a trial or stop working altogether. If this isn't the case - there will be an announcement that you can install a certain upgrade - otherwise, don't go there.

I didn't re-install the program to get a newer version, but because when I'd checked the program I'd first downloaded and activated (successfully), it was no longer a registered version. I've uninstalled the 0.17 version, and manually removed the folders it left.
I've tried everything I can think of to activate v0.18, but though the 'activate successful' message pops up, my program is still unregistered. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks.Posted 17 years ago # -
@ BuBBy - Thanks for the hint. I re-downloaded the zip. The files in it have been changed yesterday afternoon. No more problems now with installation and activation ... less than one hour before the deadline!
Posted 17 years ago # -
re-install about a dozen times in the last hr. still no go.
this is my first download after logging into this site a couple of months ago.
utterly disappointed
sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm having much the same trouble as everyone else - It says it has successfully activated and the "What's next?" screen comes up, but there is nothing on the Registration page. I don't even get any "error" messages
Has anyone who has been successful given a step-by-step? Did you put in your own e-mail address or "Giveawayoftheday" - Did you write it in or did the program? Could it be that there is just one little thing that we are doing wrong?
I'm running XP and running out of ideas - This will be the first time I couldn't get a successful registration since day 1, but I'm stumped.
Would it be cheating for someone who got it to work to just hint at a hypothetical number when they list out the steps they used ?

I have the same problem with Face. I've never failed registering Giveaway products until now. I'm also running XP.
Posted 17 years ago # -
No Face, click on register instead of about. There it should say "DVD Ripper has been registered."
Posted 17 years ago # -
Well it registered fine yesterday, I saw a lot of complaints, so opened the app and it
decided it don't like me and de-registered itself.BUGGER.
Not too bothered as that software company goes on my list (those not to buy from).
Posted 17 years ago # -
Aimersoft obviously cheating GAOTD and users of this site. If successful, the registration is only valid for just one single day (May 22, 2007). I've successfully registered the DVD Ripper yesterday (it says in about "registered version") and now - it is unregistered. In meantime my PC wasn't restarted or so.
It is a shame. Seriously, GAOTD should not pay to Aimersoft for that.
