Poyo (4.2mb)
Poyo is a multi-level platform game where many of the puzzles can only be solved by using your teleport ability correctly. It’s a great game and deserves to be far more popular!
A kingdom called Netherwurld has fallen into the hands of a tyrant, and the little purple creature Poyo struggles to seek his way to freedom. . .
As well as many usual puzzle platform elements, there are many teleport holes located throughout the game and you may need to teleport elsewhere, and set switches etc before you can proceed. The game has 45 levels and 6 bosses, divided into 5 worlds, with increasing difficulty as you complete each level. It doesn’t start off easy though, by any means, from the outset!
Please be patient with the game intro, it only plays on first load, and is omitted when you subsequently reload the game. Use the ‘Z’ key to start the game and advance intro dialogue. Your progress is saved per level completed.
Controls are ‘Arrow’ keys to move, ‘X’ key to jump (and close in-game dialogues), ‘Z’ key speeds movement and is also an action key in conjunction with directional keys (press and hold direction key then press the ‘Z’ key), eg to hit boxes like switches or fall through floors. (eg Press and hold the up direction key then press the ‘Z’ key for an extended jump, press the ‘Z’ key again while in the air to jump even higher!). The ‘R’ key restarts a level. ‘Q’ key returns to the main menu, ‘Esc’ key quits and ‘F4’ alternates between windowed and full-screen (click on the window first!).
Press the down 'arrow' key while standing directly in front of another creature to start a conversation.
You may find the controls take a bit of getting used to, but you can repeat jump while in mid-air with practice. You need in fact to be able to repeat jump to make initial progress!
The game plays windowed and full-screen in XP and is fully editable using the GM files using Game Maker. It features full support for both keyboard and gamepad, and has a user-friendly system to customise any of the controls. Vista and Win 7 users will need to use the converter found HERE to get the game to run. (Download, extract and run the game converter program, then drag and drop the game exe file onto the converter window, click on the filename then click open and a converted version is placed in the game folder; or drag the game exe directly onto the converter exe).
You may need to view the first walkthrough (part 1) to get through the first level!
You may be very pleasantly surprised at how good gameplay is and how well the game operates. It’s is very much one of the better puzzle platformers around.
It is a really excellent platform game that ‘s both challenging and fun! If you enjoy puzzle platformers you’ll greatly enjoy playing Poyo! Good Luck!
