Some users, like me, never really had a chance to get the WebGuard with the Ask Toolbar. On the upgrade it at first showed and then was not active. When I tried to "activate" it, it disappeared! I have no reference to it in Avira at all. However, I'm not complaining.
The use of the Ask Toolbar is so controversial that many people are changing their anti-virus over it, even though it's not a required component and the WebGuard feature has never been in the free version before. By not using it, we're really not losing anything!
I think the reason for my (an other users' problems) are other sites like MyPlayCity that require the toolbar - also by Ask. I have the Ask Toolbar installed but disabled because of MPC. The Avira upgrade may have seen Ask and not realized it was for another variation.
If this is true - it's really stupid of Ask! They push these companies to push their toolbar to get funds from them. Then they don't allow multiple variations??? I don't know if this is true but it seems as if that is what happened in my case.
You can refuse the component but from what I understand, you have to refuse it 3 times before it stops reminding you. Avira seems to be cutting off it's nose to spite it's face over this "feature".
