Jaywalker: Take Back the Streets (9Mb)
Ok we all know jaywalking is most very illegal, at least in the good ol’ US of A. But ‘just’ suppose pedestrians had a chance to wreak havoc on any passing motorist?!
I can’t see a car-free society anytime soon, ... but who knows?
You are in control of Marjorie, "... an anti-car organisation’s revolutionary ‘head’; as she attempts to rid the road and the world of the menace of cars; and obtain pedestrian revenge for the hazard and nuisance of noisy, smoking, polluting and fast moving cars!
So you step into the middle of the highway at a busy intersection, wait until a car is almost on you and then do a well timed dash out of harm’s way, while the car spins off the road. And whoopedydoo (!), you get to score 10 points if a car hits a fixed object (signposts, fire hydrants, traffic light poles or barrels), 50 if it hits another car, or 100 if it hits the wreckage of another car. Sound like fun?
Better still there’s also an endless mode with cars randomly generated, so you as an irate pedestrian can spend a good part of the day causing traffic mayhem, without even getting caught or fined! Just don’t get hit and knocked down by any of the passing cars!
It starts off easy enough with just one car approaching, but as you get two cars or more to get to swerve and crash, preferably into each other’s smoking hulks, a near-perfect blend of timing, reflexes, and strategy is necessary to get good scores. If you’ve spent much time playing Frogger, where the idea is to get out of the cars way as quickly as you can or jump onto moving logs, this takes some getting used to, and this game is much more challenging - as you need the right positioning, timing and angle to cause multi-car pile-ups, not to just let cars pass safely by, or jump right into their path or the path of another passing car! Oh, and some cars won’t swerve at all so you might just need to jump out of the way quick that extra bit on the fast side! Chain car crashes to get up to 10x points multiplier in this great mini-game, where only the highest score counts!
‘Arrow’ keys or joystick to move. The game keeps a record of your top ten scores.
The game is a sequel to the original 2004 ‘Jaywalker’, with improved graphics and a new soundtrack, to accompany your bloodthirsty quest for footpadder’s revenge.
***** Unfortunately I can’t get the ’newer’ version to run in Win 7 so I doubt it works in Vista either. ***** This is probably because Game Maker 6 that the newer version is made with isn’t compatible with later versions of Windows after Win 2000. But the original version works OK.
This is a great coffee time pastime to relieve stress and have a lot of fun . . . all the more so if you like reflex challenges and a chance to try a unique action title, preferably with some mates watching to ’grade’ your 'best' attempts as excellent, miserable or feeble!
Highly addictive and very amusing! Beep, Beep. Just don’t try this in real life! And Don’t get hit!
