Action Cyborg (2.77Mb) (mature content)
Action Cyborg is a 2D retro action platform game. It takes place in a dark, technological future, where the Cyborg was once human (Arnie?!) but has had most body parts replaced with cybernetic organism artificial components. He sets out on a vigilante mission of survival and revenge (Hmm, seems familiar!).
It’s a shortish game with four levels and three different types of Cyborg enemy. It looks unlikely that its author will develop it further now, four years on. This is a bit of a shame as it’s great graphically and plays very well. The sound effects are excellent and futuristic.
There are medkits to restore health and different weapons and ammo to find. Unlike many platform games, you only have limited ammo and need to use shots sparingly. You can try to outrun enemies if you are short of ammo. Explosive rockets hitting you will kill you instantly though. It’s mostly quite easy to kill enemies, but the enemy rockets are very likely to finish you off. You can fall from great heights without being hurt (cyber engineering?). There are firepits to avoid that will set you alight, damaging your health considerably if you fall in them, or go through them. Enemies bounce back when they're hit, so you can push them over ledges, and they'll fall down and take damage. You complete a level by finding the exit, (mostly to the right).
You can skip levels to try out any level without completing previous levels by pressing ‘Ctrl+Alt+S’ keys. ‘Ctrl+Alt+A’ (cheat) restores health and full ammo and gives you all weapons.
The mature content refers to some strong swearing ingame. For younger players the speech can be turned off in the menu!
Controls are ‘L/R’ arrow keys to move, ‘Up’ arrow key to climb, ‘Z’ key to jump, ‘X’ key to fire and ‘1,2,3,4’ key to change weapons once you find and collect them. The ‘Esc’ key takes you back to the menu.
Options aren’t saved though and need to be re-set each time you start the game. The game should play in XP, Vista and Win 7 (32 bit) and there’s the option to play full-screen or windowed.
