1213 Episodes 1, 2 & 3 (4.7Mb)
1213 (Twelve -Thirteen) is an enigmatic action adventure in a sci-fi setting. Each episode is fairly short - it is possible to complete all three within an hour and a half or so - but it hits all the right spots/places and catches you with some very well timed, and often most unexpected surprises.
1213 is confined in a prison cell, not knowing why he is there or even what his own name is. He is forced, to daily run an obstacle course, by a silhouetted figure whose glasses you will find a central element during the game for all three episodes. He (1213) laments in pain, sickness and daily torture. But one day the cell door mysteriously opens and he wanders out not knowing what he will have to confront or be confronted by. Most of the time all you can hear is his own heart beating, though this is interspersed with music during cutscenes and very tense moments, including boss encounters/ battles.
There are round about five damage states shown by a health bar, but it can be difficult to know when the damage inflicted becomes life-threatening, the lower the health bar goes. This can make the boss fights unpredictable in not knowing how much more damage you can take. When the health meter reading is low/ very low, you could basically die at any point, so it makes sense to try to keep some health showing! There are some places to replenish your health. Enemies have a dangerous aura around them so getting too close can be dangerous!
There’s a tutorial built into the game and by the time you’ve learnt to jump off or between platforms, climb up onto platforms and shot a prison guard you’ll be well on your way to making further progress. You are able to run. as well, by the time you get to Episodes 2 & 3. The plot is neatly woven into the game and you’ll need to find various objects to open doors etc.
The graphics and cutscenes are nicely atmospheric, fitting the dark mood of the game. Although the music is repeated in various places, it is done so as to fit the mood of the game.
Episode 1 has 1213 starting to assess his situation and condition, struggling to survive some fierce battles, and starting to explore some of the prison environs.
Episode 2 sees more questions raised than answered, as 1213 explores further areas of his prison and begins to learn the truth about his origins.
In Episode 3 - 1213 is hounded on all sides by hostile strangers and his own debilitating illness; he strives on to identify and for a final confrontation with his mysterious spectred captor; and a truth he may not be ready for. . .
At the end of each episode you're given player scores, which list how many shots you fired, how many guards/zombies were killed, and how long it took you to complete the episode. Some will wish to replay episodes to try and beat their previous score/complete it quicker, etc.
The plot is brilliantly developed, with occasional cryptic hints and foreshadowing of future events in the game. There are two alternate endings in Episode 3 giving some replay value (you get the code to the alternate ending on first completing Episode 3, which then has to be replayed to get to the other ending). An extra scenario is also included in the (now free) special edition, which contains all three Episodes as well.
The controls can be found listed on the home page/ download page below.
Can you figure out what is happening to 1213 and find a way out?
It’s a chilling suspenseful game, with some macabre and, memorable moments! It’s a case of the sum total truly being greater than the parts, making playing the whole game a well-rewarding - and not to say - thoroughly apprehensive at times, experience! Very well worth the download!
