Hi all,
This is an odd one and I'm banging my head against a brick wall trying to find it - I need help with new ideas as to the cause, if anyone can please?!
It's an XP Home SP3 with all updates desktop. On Saturday, I was going to download the game but the "Do you want to open or save this file?" window failed to appear. The little green boxes were appearing at the bottom of the screen on IE8 as though it was connecting, but could not find the file. So I guessed there were problems with game.giveawayoftheday.
Sunday it was the same and giveawayoftheday would not open either and now again today (Monday) it still will not open.
I have disabled my download accelerator and my pop-up blocker, no difference.
I tried downloading from other websites, including the software's homepage and that will download fine. I have tried opening an "In Private" window and that WILL download fine from GAOTD and also game.GAOTD, so why not from a normal IE8 window?
I've run CCleaner to clear the cache and nothing seems to be blocking it - I use Comodo Firewall with Microsoft Security Essentials, nothing else. I do have Firefox 4.0 installed and that downloads fine as well. Opening up the version of IE that has all add-ons disabled DOES download perfectly as well.
When in Normal IE8, it always fails to open the "Do you want to open or save this file?" window, even after rebooting the computer and the router. Not only that, but that tab then is locked and cannot be closed down or stopped. I end up having to use CTRL-Alt-Del to force the window to close.
Does anyone know if there is had been a change in the coding for the page for GAOTD or something like that? Only with other websites downloading programs fine with no problems, then if anyone else is experiencing the same problems, they might be blaming GAOTD servers for "not having the file", when it is there, it is just not accessable for some strange reason?
Thanks for any ideas!
