Thanks, Buzz ! :)
This Astronomy program looks like an excellent and fun learning resource, with 'Augmented Reality' Technology put to effective use. There is a provision for travelling between locations via a virtual camera that simulates movement. Here's a view of the program's interface:
It's a shame I missed this one as I love astronomy. I do think overall the program is a rip off though. They are doing what game developers are now doing and selling you a partially completed product then asking you to buy the rest in bite sized bits. When you count up the total cost of the finished product it costs quite a significant amount (over $100)
So true. They have many "modules" to add for $6 each.
But the Pro Plus version sells for $249.95.

Have you looked at Stellarium [ http://stellarium.org/ ] & [ http://portableapps.com/apps/education/stellarium_portable ]
And

Are there other programs like Universe Sandbox?

Well, I'm sure :)
This one was the first German sci-fi series - older then StarTrek :)
SPACE PATROL - The fantastic adventures of the starship ORION
On an old dead computer I had a long list of bookmarks for astronomy - maybe I'll find a back-up somewhere.

Universe Sandbox is a fun way of looking at our solar system, plus you can mess aroud like force asteroids into the sun or even make them crash into earth. It was on a 50% offer, but that ended 46 minutes ago. Still, i think it's worth the full price.
