On one PC, the screen notification does not pop up from the tray like all the others. How do I restore it to normality?
Screen notification doesn't appear.

Not sure what you mean, Walker. Maybe, what your calling screen notification, I'm calling something else, which is probably my mistake. However, we might need a more detailed description to know exactly what you mean. You mean resolution? That's not always setup on every machine. Or do you mean something else?

Walkerpbus, if this feature is something that cannot be easily fixed using the windows control panel settings, then maybe you can do a "system restore" to reset your computer's settings back to a point-in-time when this feature was working well. You could also try using your computer's Help/Support Menu to try to diagnose & solve this problem. Lastly, you can contact your PC manufacturer for help with this issue.

I guess what walkerplus is saying is that he gets no balloon notifications in his system tray (aka notification area).
Then again, maybe he could be referring to the info tip that indicates what an icon represents too...
@walkerplus:It might help if we knew what OS you're running...and please give us some more details,so we can take it from there.
As a side note, some programs have their own option settings to enable/disable balloons.

Walker, I looked into notifications in general - which MS calls balloon tips - and they're built in, without any user access. In fact, the recommended MS procedure to turn them off in the notification area (and likely back on) requires you to edit the registry. Anyway, I'd try a system restore before that, if you have a restore point that goes back to before the problem started. If you can remember how long ago and haven't installed anything else you'd lose by doing it, that is.
First, though, I'd run virus and malware scans if you haven't recently. It might have been done by some software, and that software could be malicious. Also, I'd run error checking after that, then System File Checker (SFC). If you lost your notifications because of some internal damage, you should check your hard drive for evidence of any damage. Did this happen after a crash or power outage? In that case, you should run error checking (chkdsk) and SFC as your first action. Search under SFC in Help.

Glad you mentioned tweakers like XP AntiSpy, HD. I should have thought of that. That could have been the cause if you used something like that, walker, and just used their recommended settings without looking down the list of proposed changes. If that's the case, you can just use the tweaker software to turn it back on. Or download a tweaker and fix it that way.
http://www.xp-antispy.org/index.php/en (works all the way from 2K through 7. Probably should be careful with it. I've used it, but carefully. It could cause some unintentioned problems.)
hotdoge was nice enough to site the registry fix I was referring to. Didn't know if you would feel comfortable with that, walker. Let me clarify that the article sighted is about turning balloon tips off. You can't use the automatic fixit and let MS fix it for you on the web, because their fix is, again, to turn notifications off. But all you have to do is change the value of the new key that you (or the fixit button) adds from =0 to =1.
However, if this occurred after a crash, I still stick by error correcting recommendations above. You need to know if there was other, especially physical, damage.
