Star Trek: The Neutral Zone
Star Trek: The Neutral Zone was created by the then school boy Cresimir Kes. The original was taken up by some Croatians interested in the game and released as a DVD back in 2004. I stumbled upon the game while looking for some Tower Defence games in answer to a post made on these forums earlier today. If you are a Trekky fan this will be a great freebie to pick up. I’ve played the game for a short while and feel the quality is okay for the free games project. I’m not fully out of my self-imposed sabbatical from posting free games, so haven’t bothered to give an in depth comment on the game. The following taken from Caimans site should suffice for now and hopefully will give some of you enough information to whet your appetite for what looks like a decent take on the Star Trek world.
Star Trek: The Neutral Zone is a very fun space shooter. You can play on line with several other players(TCPIP or LAN), off line against another person and/or against up to 10 bots (computer opponents) The object of the game is to destroy your opponent/s using your phasers or torpedoes before they destroy you. For a quick game you can set the frag limit to one or for a super long game up to 999 or even somewhere in between. When two or more people are playing, you can also have bots turned on. There are lots of power-ups including: hull repair, shield repair, full repair, quad damage, super torpedoes, batfleth, invulnerability, auxiliary power and random power-ups. The bot skill level and game speed are adjustable. The other available options include: Sound level, screen size and colour depth and re-definable keys.

Download
You can download the original game plus a mod HERE or just the game Caimans
There’s also an alpha release of the games sequel called Star Trek: The Neutral Zone 2. It’s not the full release yet as it’s still in alpha testing, but you can get a copy of the alpha for free HERE. As you would expect there’s a lot missing from the game still, but it’s a worthwhile download if you love Star Trek.
To download the Alpha click on the download button to the top right of the developers page via the first link below, or go to the bottom of the page via the second link for more choices. With reference to the first link, I’ve linked to the main page rather than the download page as I think it’s only fair to the developer that those interested in downloading should at least see what they are getting first. (don’t mean to sound condescending).
