Microsoft Pays For Old-Style Net Addresses
The slow death of IPv4 is something we have covered here on Tech Europe. In a nutshell the internet is running out of addresses. Now before running to the hills, it is okay—there is plan B; IPv6.
However it comes as no surprise to read that the few remaining IPv4 addresses are commanding something of a premium.
Microsoft has bought a block of IP addresses at a cost of $11.25 each – more than the price of an average .com domain name – in the first sign of panic buying as IPv4 addresses run out.
The software giant paid a whopping $7.5 million for the block of 666,624 IPv4
