Zelda Links Awakening Remake (17.5mb)
This is a PC remake of the Nintendo DX action adventure game of the same name. It had a good deal of critical acclaim and commercial success in its original and subsequent releases by Nintendo for the game's depth and number of features . The remake is faithful to the original, adding color and 16-bit sprites, and an upgraded sound track. It is though only a partial remake of the original and while faithful to the original storyline and graphics, you can only play partway through the story in this Pc version. It’s been made with RPG Game Maker 2003, though it only has a small rpg element. It’s well nigh time we had some Zelda remakes, as Sonic and Street-Fighter from Nintendo seem to have had most of the attention.
The storyline does not link directly into previous Zelda incarnations, as this time, the hero Link is stranded on an island, and there’s barely a mention of Princess Zelda. It may be a modestly small island, but there are a lot of secrets and many inter-connected pathways, with hidden dungeons, and monsters to fight. Unlike rpgs, you’re on your own, and you get advice and directions from non-player characters such as Ulrira, a shy old man who communicates with Link exclusively by telephone.
There’s a good deal of exploring to do, secrets to find and some necessary combat. The player as Link fights monsters and solves puzzles, while going about searching for eight musical instruments that will awaken the sleeping Wind Fish that guards the island, and allow him to escape from the island. Amongst other items, link must recover his sword. The dungeons become more and more complicated and there are ‘nightmare’ boss battles to get through. Success earns the player heart containers, which increase the amount of damage Link can survive; when all of the player's heart containers have been emptied, the game restarts at the last doorway entered by the character.
Defeating a Nightmare boss also earns the player one of the eight instruments necessary to complete the game. Character interactions are an essential part of the game, and Link can steal items from the game’s shop, but is thereafter known as ‘Thief’ and is killed by the shop-owner if he re-enters the shop! There are a number of side-missions and diversions. Collectible "secret seashells" are hidden throughout the game; when a certain number of these are found, the player receives a powerful sword that fires energy beams.

Xfixium: Special message from the creator
There have been a number of recent reviews of this PC remake, which is the reason for posting (No doubt with the 3Ds games machine coming out - with the option of downloading the original game). Unfortunately XFixium, the remake’s author is working on another major project and has no present plans to extend this game. It finishes shortly after defeating the first nightmare boss. Though on the short side as a result (around about 2hours gameplay), it’s still a very good way to while away a lazy afternoon!
