   Oddly enough, I have FF4 and I crashed it TWICE trying to get to the GOTD forums from the main GOTD site. A click on the direct bookmark to the GOTD forums was successful. Since it's ONLY the one way of crashing - I think the "forums" button may have a problem!

   had it from Firefox 4.0 Beta 6 and not crashed on my the only fond it slow as it was set on to use a proxy so set it on no proxy ok now, I have most of the ad-ons runing XP sp3 most will work with fiefox 4 & XP, A tip try this high lite a word it will go to Search Engine and look it up in a new tab or if its a url >

   I've Win7 SP1 and downloaded FF4 this morning. It's much faster and has been very smooth so far.

   Only gripe is AVG Security tool bar and Safe Search are not yet compatible which is annoying as I pay for it and they've had months to prepare for FF4 in beta.

    Mozilla has improved the way Firefox handles add-ons in an attempt to reduce start-up times.
    The firm said that the plethora of add-ons available for Firefox, many of which are from third parties, is having an adverse effect on performance.

    "On average, each add-on you install adds about 10 per cent to Firefox start-up time. For some users that's mere milliseconds, and for others it may be half a second; it all depends on the hardware and software of each individual."

    Based on the firm's research, and real world performance data, installing 10 add-ons can just about double the start time of the browser, a delay that Mozilla is hoping to tackle through a number of initiatives.
    Badly performing add-ons that slow down start time by over 25 per cent will come with a slow performance warning, which will also display in the users' Add-ons management settings.
    Mozilla is offering some performance best practice guidelines for developers, and said it will reach out to those that are building slow add-ons.

    Tools will also be released that should help developers design better performing applications, as will automated testing software.

    and I still have to learn to use the new interface and put up with a larger memory footprint, plus risk odd crashes from the hacks. No, thanks.

    use what you like, or can afford, but don't try and make me fit your choices, unless you want to finance them as well. and finance well. Please.

    I have my own problems that take priority as they come up, that don't get aired here that determine what I choose. and limit choices as well.
