ok, im another one in the same boat. all games and all software give me:
"Activation module failed to connect to http://www.giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings."
now, first, the wrapper that "the people responsible for this site" created never triggers any notification and i can confirm it never even gets to attempt a connect to the internet that is detected by me.
some have come with its: a firewall problemm, a router problem, ISP problem, a proxy problem, etc.
now, here is currently the data i have about this problem that doesnt let me activate (and install) any software on my main computer:
1-firewall i use is not the cause. i have another computer with the same firewall and i am capable of activating the software there (not that i want to install it there, but thats another matter). also i have disabled the firewall on my main computer to no effect. basicly it has nothing to do with my firewall.
2-router, proxy, ISP, whatever- i have connected a portable with windows media center (+ NIS2006) to the same router that my main computer and was able to activate the software. so it has nothing to do with : router, proxys, ISPs, etc.
3-all computers i was successfull on, and all other persons computers i know which where able to activate the software where all on intel cpus (this could be eliminated if someone with an intel cpu stated they also have the problem), some had my firewall.
summary: this problem is either related to AMD cpus, or a specific windows/software configuration (excluding firewall) that i have on my main computer.
as an aside, "us programmers", when we get an error, we normaly get a return code from the function we were attempting to do, and generally output that information in some way, even if it is to a log file, if we dont want to confuse a user with return codes and stuff. now, the only way i see to solve this problem is exactly that, please ouput the damn function and return code of what you were attempting to do instead of just giving a "i was unable to connect and its probably because the site is overloaded or your firewall"
the return code will most probably give an idea of what area is causing the problem.
id hate to have to debug your programs (hoping the wrapper is not debug protected) to get the damn function and error code your wrapper is doing. not that its the first time i have debugged third party software that dont seem to be able to solve their software problems and resort to "theories" of what can be causing the problem.
as it stands i cannot install the software on my main pc, where i do all my work.
